Rock n Roll

06 Aug

Bongo by a broken rockHere I am reporting from a dry wash in the middle of my trails.

What? I’ve got to explain myself?

Oh. Dry wash.

Well, it’s dry – most of the time.

That’s why they call it a dry wash.

But sometimes when there’s a lot of rain the water washes through.

That’s why they call it a wash.

So here I am in the middle of this dry wash and I see something strange.

***

A rock – a pretty big rock – broken in two.

Broken rock

It must have come rolling down the wash and hit this other rock hard.

But if this rock was tumbling down fast enough to hit that rock and break, then I don’t think the wash was dry.

There must have been water flowing through really fast.

Does that mean it was a wet wash?

I guess so.

But I’ve never heard anyone talk about a wet wash.

But there’s something else too.

A rock that hits hard enough to break would probably make a lot of noise.

Maybe a thunder-like noise.

And a dry wash turns into a wet wash when there’s a lot of rain.

And most of the time when there’s thunder there’s rain.

So maybe there’s no such thing as thunder.

It’s noisy rocks instead.

So now I’ve got a plan.

If I could get the City of Sedona to ban all rocks from being here and send them far away, then I’d be a happy dog.

I’m on my way to the Mayor’s office.

I’m sure he’ll think it’s a great idea.

Note from Bongo’s Person: If you’re not familiar with Sedona, it’s famous for its rocks.

Sweet Bongo you might be on to something there. Those rocks crashing could make some noise for sure. But it would take years and years to get all those rocks out of there. Maybe you will just need some ear muffs. Hugs and nose kisses

Chancy, it was a thought anyway. I guess I’ll have to settle for the ear muffs. Hugs and nose kisses back to you.

Right, okay,, I understand most of what you say….but if Sedona is famous for its rocks…and you have them all taken away…won, t that also take away the beauty of your area..you would not like that, a boring trail with no hidden secret places to stick your nose…oh my..no, you cannot do that.
MR MAYOR person ..do not listen to Bongo dog

Patrecia, at least I’d still have my puddle. Oh wait, my person says the reason my puddle stays sometimes is because it’s on rock so the water can’t sink into the ground. Well, maybe a few of the rocks can stay.

B., if I could, I’d come over there and bring all those noisy rocks back here with me. I am not afraid of rocks. Or noise.

    Love and licks,

Lily & Edward, you never can predict that wet wash thing. But my person keeps telling me it happens when it rains – a lot.

Fredrieka, I guess when you don’t know anything else. But I do wish I had places to swim closer by. We have to get in the car to go to a swimming hole so I don’t get to go very often.

Bongo my friend I think you are over thinking this. Some times a rock is just a rock.

I’m still trying to figure out that thunder thing though. I’ve got to find a way to get rid of it.

Bongo it would be sad for the Mayor to send away all the beautiful rocks. Then Sedona would look like everyplace else. The red rocks are what make it so special.

I hope that those rocks won’t hit animals or humans while they are rolling down. Please be careful, Bongo!

Kevin, for some reason my person won’t let me go in the wash when the water’s running so I guess I don’t have to worry about the rocks tumbling down.

Little Binky, my person had to remind me that with no rocks I wouldn’t have much of a trail. Guess I’ll have to put up with the noise.

How did your appointment go, Bongo? Sedona maybe famous for its rocks BUT Bongo is a V.I.D. … too important to ignore his wishes over a …few rocks!!!! 😉

Marina, the mayor keeps saying he is too busy. You’d think he would carve time out of his schedule for a citizen as important as me.
