Day 2 – The Dog Hotel and the Imaginary Dog

Puppy drawingFor those of you who weren’t here yesterday, I’m stuck in the dog hotel again. Since it’s kind of hard to have adventures in here I’m making up a story about an imaginary dog with imaginary adventures. If you want to start from the beginning go back and read yesterday’s post first.

***

Eric looked at his watch. “My mom’s going to kill me. I was supposed to be home early tonight.” He stood up to leave. “See you dude,” he said to his friend Brian.

Eric collected his winter gear tightly around him and stepped off Brian’s front porch into a deep drift. He pulled himself out of it and headed toward the woods. In spite of the fact that it was nearly dark, he could get home much faster this way. He was glad he’d remembered to carry a small flashlight with him.

Eric thought about what his mom would say to him when he arrived. He did not like it when she was angry and she was sure to be angry with him now. She had asked him to help her with a special dinner for his father’s birthday.

Focusing on the snowy trail, Eric decided not to think about what he might hear. Lights shown in the distance so Eric knew he was getting close. The trail didn’t look the same in snow. It seemed full of lumpy white shapes and he pulled his flashlight out to see more clearly. As he took a step his foot brushed against something slightly buried in snow and he thought he heard a whimper.

Quickly pulling his foot back, Eric aimed his light at the object, which wasn’t an object at all.

Bending on one knee, Eric brushed the snow off the puppy. “Hey little guy, what are you doing here?”

The puppy lifted his head and kissed Eric on the nose.

Eric placed the puppy in his lap and then used the strength of his legs to lift himself up with the puppy in his arms. “I can’t leave you here little guy. Who knows what would have happened to you if I hadn’t found you.”

The puppy’s tail gave a slight wag as Eric held him close to his chest.

Arriving home, Eric clumped up his back porch steps in order to knock the snow off his boots. His mother was cutting vegetables as he walked in.

“Where have you been?” his mother said without turning around.

The puppy whimpered.

After slowly turning to look at Eric and the puppy, his mom spoke. “Take that dog right back where you got him.”

Day 1 – The Dog Hotel and the Imaginary Dog

Bongo Behind Bars

I’m stuck at the dog hotel and I take no responsibility for what’s posted here.

I can’t believe it! I’m stuck in the dog hotel again. My person went away and left me, and here I am at the dog hotel.

How am I going to have any adventures? Or fun? I won’t have anything to write about on my blog.

Wait, I know. I’ll make up a story. It’ll be a first. I’ll tell a story about some imaginary dog who is having imaginary adventures. Here goes:

***

Slush sprayed the half-grown puppy as a semi-truck rushed by inches from his nose. The puppy stopped still in his tracks and then turned and ran back the way he’d come.

Shaking  to rid himself of the damp, the puppy took a cautious step into the soft snow. He moved his other paw forward and tried again, inching his way into the woods and sometimes sinking to his belly.

Away from the highway everything was silent. Slowly falling snowflakes tickled the puppy’s nose as they landed. A few blades of grass grew through the snow surrounding it. The puppy nibbled on these but they didn’t satisfy his hunger. He wandered for awhile sniffing the snow in spots, or scratching at the base of a tree, hoping for something, anything, that smelled like food. But he found nothing.

Finally exhaustion overtook him. He lay down right where he was in the snow. In spite of the cold, he fell into a fitful sleep.

***

To be continued tomorrow.

You’re Not Supposed to Yell

Bongo Leading the WayI don’t believe it! I just got back from the dog hotel – again. And this time my person didn’t give me enough warning so I could put it on a blog post. I mean, she didn’t even get her suitcase out until after she dropped me off. Of all the nerve! I wanted everybody to feel sorry for me – but how can you feel sorry for me if you don’t know what’s going on?

At least she picked me up after only a couple days this time. But then she kept yelling at me. You think she’d be really excited to see me – but she yelled at me instead. I got so excited when I got into the car that I started loving on the back seat – and my person yelled at me for it.

And then, after we got home, I got caught red pawed. My person went outside to get the mail and I figured since Scratchy hadn’t eaten all his food in the whole time I was gone that I’d do him a favor and finish it up for him. My person came back in the house while I was just getting started.

Come on, person. You take pictures of everything else. Get your camera out and take a picture of me with my paws up on the counter. That’ll give me time to finish this.

But, no – my person wouldn’t go for it. Sorry, Scratchy. I guess you’re going to have to eat that old food.

Then to make matters worse, my person made me take her for a walk before I had a chance to take a nap. Something about it getting dark soon. I could have led her just fine in the dark. I got her back though, because I got some good loves on the trail and she didn’t get any.

Dream Come True

Bongo and his Younger PersonI can’t believe it! This just happened to me a few days ago and now my person did it again. She dropped me off at the dog hotel!

I knew something was coming up because her suitcase came out this time. But where do you think she was going? To see my younger person in his new apartment. That one he got so he could go to that college place. He’s my younger person, so why don’t I get to go? I could go to college too.

I thought I’d be at the dog hotel forever. It seems like I usually am when I go there, but my person picked me up and I only had to stay there one night.

So we came home and I was taking a serious nap like I always do when I come home from the dog hotel, when somewhere in a dream I thought I heard a familiar sound.

But it had to be just a dream because that sound wasn’t here anymore.

I woke up just in case and the sound was still there. My younger person’s car!

How could that be? He went away to that college place. I ran to the door and in he came.

And he gave me loves! I guess that college place did my younger person some good. My person says he takes classes there. He must be taking one on how to love your dog and he had to come home to do his homework.

Something’s Not Right

Bongo in the car realizing he's at the dog hotelI’m later than usual getting my post up today – for good reason. I just got home, but more about that in a bit.

Strange activity has been going on in my house. Stuff has been piling up in my living room. Stuff that usually stays in other parts of the house. I didn’t like it, but I figured I was safe because the suitcases weren’t coming out. When that happens I know I’m really in trouble.

Yesterday morning my younger person put all that stuff in his car. Then he left. A few minutes later my person got out my leash and told me to get in her car. Woo woo! We’re going for a ride. Where are we going? Swimming? The dog park?

The car stopped and I was ready to jump out when…

Wait a minute! This is the Dog Hotel! Turn around now. I don’t want to go here.

My person wouldn’t listen to me and she left me there.

Today my person came back for me. I’m home again now but my younger person is missing. I know he goes away sometimes, but this feels different. Like he’s gone for a long time.

My person says he went to a place called Ege and we can call him there.

You mean I can call Ege, but I can’t go there? Why not?

Come on person. I want to go to call Ege right now and tell my younger person to come back.
