Hey person, where are we going? This isn’t the way we usually go.
You want to what? Take a picture of those things? What did you say they were?
You mean Indians used those to paint with? They don’t look anything like the paintbrushes you use.
What? They’re called Indian Paintbrush, but Indians don’t really paint with them? That doesn’t make sense. Why would they do that?
Wait a minute. You’re trying to distract me, aren’t you? You’re trying to make me forget that open suitcase I saw.
Where are you going, person? Do I have to go to the Dog Hotel? Are you going to take me with you this time?
What? You’re going to Indiana? Are you going to paint while you’re there? You need to take some of these flowers if you do.
You know why. These are Indiana Paintbrushes. I bet you could make some really pretty pictures with them.
Fenris' new life
March 10, 2012 at 10:40 am
Bongo, I hate it too when my mom brings out a suitcase. But I’ve never stayed at a dog hotel, just with my cousins or grandmother. Is it fun at the dog hotel?
March 10, 2012 at 10:54 am
Fenris, I don’t really like the dog hotel but I don’t have to go there this time. It turns out my younger person isn’t going anywhere all week so I get to stay home with him.
March 10, 2012 at 10:43 am
that sounds nice Bongo..going to a hotel for your holidays where you will meet lots of new doggy friends..take some photos
March 10, 2012 at 10:56 am
Patreciau, I’m not happy about my person leaving, but I’m excited that my younger person isn’t going anywhere this week so I get to stay home with him. No dog hotel this time.

Does your “dog hotel” have a lounge ? Maybe I could get a gig there !
March 10, 2012 at 10:57 am
Joke Puppy, I’m sure they could work something out for you. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
March 10, 2012 at 10:53 am
Just don’t do what my friend’s cat does, Bongo, and pee in the suitcase! He knows how to express his displeasure about her imminent departures!
March 10, 2012 at 10:58 am
Wonderbutt’s person, I would get in so much trouble if I did that – but I did slobber in it when I was checking it out.
March 10, 2012 at 11:28 am
Oh, Bongo. I wish you could come here and stay with me and Henry! I hope you enjoy your visit to the Dog Hotel, and that it’s a super short stay for you! 😉
March 10, 2012 at 12:55 pm
Monica, I would love to stay with you and Henry – but at least I don’t have to go to the dog hotel. My younger person isn’t going anywhere so I get to stay home with him.
March 10, 2012 at 11:48 am
I’m glad you’re not going to any dog hotels Bongo.
Guess what, the Chedster did a DOG TRICK this morning!!! He rolled over twice, when asked. He will probably deny it, but it really happened. 😉
I love Indian Paintbrushes, wonderful flower. A lot of them up here in Canada.
Happy Weekend, G
March 10, 2012 at 12:56 pm
Chedster, you are one cool cat. I would love to come over and rub your tummy. Oops, did I say that about a cat? My person says she remembers Indian Paintbrush from when she lived in Seattle and is surprised it grows in such different climates.
March 10, 2012 at 2:37 pm
Glad you’re not going to the dog hotel, Bongo. 🙂
Safe trip to your person…
March 10, 2012 at 2:48 pm
March 10, 2012 at 2:37 pm
Hey Bongo, Jet here. Those paintbrushes were quite lovely. We have something called shaving brush trees! 🙂 Keep investigating the suitcase situation.
March 10, 2012 at 2:48 pm
Jet, I might see if I can fit myself in that suitcase so I can go with my person.
March 10, 2012 at 4:15 pm
Bongo, a brilliant solution… you rock!
March 10, 2012 at 5:05 pm
I’ll let you know what happens Jet.
March 11, 2012 at 4:47 am
March 10, 2012 at 3:51 pm
OMG, Bongo! The car is bad enough – but the SUITCASE is a nightmare! I hope you’re going along. Maybe it’s a surprise.
Love and licks,
March 10, 2012 at 5:01 pm
Cupcake, my person is packing her suitcase – and not one for me, but she says I get to stay home with my younger person this time.
March 10, 2012 at 4:43 pm
Remember the hotel is short term and you will be out soon!! Just hopped by, stop by and see our new puppy!
March 10, 2012 at 5:03 pm
Christine, thanks for stopping by and commenting. My person says I don’t have to go to the dog hotel this time but she’s still leaving me. I’ll stop by in awhile and see your new puppy. I bet the puppy is really cute.
March 10, 2012 at 5:02 pm
Bongo – maybe that’s what they use to paint the sunsets and sunrises?
March 10, 2012 at 5:05 pm
Karen, it sure is the right color, isn’t it? Maybe they squeeze the juice out of the flowers.
March 10, 2012 at 5:13 pm
I love Indian Paintbrushes! My grandmother had some little blue ones in her backyard garden for awhile, but then she got a moonflower plant that kind of took over that patch.
March 10, 2012 at 5:48 pm
Jen, my person loves Indian Paintbrushes too. There’s just a few spots on my trails where they come up each spring.
March 10, 2012 at 9:07 pm
That Indian Paintbrushes are beautiful! My mom’s sister(my auntie) learns traditional japanese flower arrangement (called “Ikebana”) and we have several flowers in our house but never seen this flower! When mom checked the name, it also says that it’s a state flower of “Wyoming” in US, is that true? Are there many Indian Paintbrushes in Wyoming? In US, each states has their own flowers? By the way, I’m glad that this time, you don’t have to stay at Dog Hotel! 🙂 Horray your younger person! 🙂
March 11, 2012 at 4:43 pm
Kevin, my person says the Indian Paintbrush must grow all over the Western United States. She remembers seeing them when she lived in Washington state. Most, if not all of the states have their own state flower. Wyoming must have a lot of Indian Paintbrushes if that is their state flower. My person has only spent a little time in Wyoming so she doesn’t know. The state flower for Arizona is the blossom of the saguaro cactus. The flower is white and very pretty. I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of that cactus. They are very majestic and the only place in the world they grow is the Sonoran Desert, which covers part of Arizona and into part of Mexico.
March 12, 2012 at 6:42 am
Thanks for lots of info about flowers, Bongo! Yes I’ve seen pics of the saguaro cactus and I know how the flower looks like! They are sooo pretty! We have a few cactus pots in our tiny garden, and two of them are named ” Harry” and “Ron” from Harry Potter book 🙂 but it’s a bit difficult to raise them well….because of the climate?
March 12, 2012 at 5:12 pm
Kevin, that’s funny that your cacti are named Harry and Ron. I would think that would make them last better in your climate because it gets cold in England where Harry and Ron live. My person says only a few kinds of cactus do well where we live because we are at a high elevation and it gets cold here sometimes.
March 10, 2012 at 9:17 pm
Oh Bongo! Where are you? Are you in the dog hotel or are you at home with Person? And don’t worry about the name of that plant. Persons sometimes give silly names to plants!
March 11, 2012 at 4:46 pm
Charlie, I got to stay home with my younger person. I’m going to have to put on my charm to get him to take me out on my trails though. He doesn’t like to go as often as my person does.
March 10, 2012 at 10:22 pm
That is a very pretty picture of the Indian Paintbrush that your person took, I have never seen those. Don’t worry Bongo, Mica & Lexie have to go to a dog hotel in a few days too so we can go to Wisconsin. They will not be happy but we will be back soon to take them home. I’m sure your Mom will be back for you soon too 🙂
March 11, 2012 at 4:49 pm
Tylers, I was lucky and didn’t have to go to the dog hotel this time because my younger person is staying home with me. I’m glad Mica and Lexie don’t have to stay there very long.
March 11, 2012 at 2:45 am
Bongo, “a man’s home is his castle”, isn’t it 🙂 It’s a beautiful plant, and did you know they also make remedies of Indian Paintbrushes? Too bad we don’t have this plants around here:(
March 11, 2012 at 4:50 pm
Angel’s Whisper, Indian Paintbrush is beautiful. I didn’t know they made remedies with it, but the Indians who lived here before my person’s kind of people came used plants for lots of things.
March 11, 2012 at 4:18 am
Oh no! Not the suitcase! Benny and Lily had the same problem with their Momma this week. I love those Indian Paintbrush flowers. They’re so pretty!
March 11, 2012 at 4:52 pm
Bassetmomma, my person says she loves the color of the Indian Paintbrush. I’m pretty upset right now because my person filled her suitcase and left, but at least I didn’t have to go to the dog hotel because my younger person stayed home with me.
March 11, 2012 at 5:05 am
As soon as I open my suitcase, my cats sleep in it. 😛
March 11, 2012 at 4:53 pm
Dianda, they probably want you to pack them in so they can go with you. My person said if she packed me she wouldn’t have any room left for her clothes.
March 11, 2012 at 10:20 am
I love Indian Paintbrushes. I saw them all the time in Texas. I don’t see them so much here in Kansas, though. Bongo, I hope your person takes you with them.
March 11, 2012 at 4:54 pm
Dawn, my person took her suitcase and left me, but at least I get to stay home with my younger person instead of going to the dog hotel.

we’re glad you have good company this week. Maybe this younger person can help you with some fun mischief? Shhh we didn’t suggest anything like that.

March 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm
Bella and DiDi, maybe I can pull some mischief on my younger person. Don’t tell him I said that though.

March 11, 2012 at 5:13 pm
We won’t tell. Talk to you soon Bongo.
March 11, 2012 at 7:29 pm
LOL…. Indiana Paint Brushes! We laughed hard at that one. Indiana is up near our neck of the woods… Glad you dont have to go to the dog hotel! 🙂
The Collies and Chuck 🙂
March 12, 2012 at 4:57 pm
Chuck and Collies, do you have Indiana Paintbrushes at your house? My person says she hasn’t seen any in Indiana.
March 12, 2012 at 1:50 am
I know Bongo, suitcase is a bummer! At least you’ll be spending time with your younger person and maybe do some “foolish” things?! So did your person tell you what the Indian Paintbrush flowers are for? [safe trip to your person!]
March 12, 2012 at 5:08 pm
Marina, my person says she just likes the color of the Indian Paintbrush. She doesn’t know what anyone uses them for.
March 12, 2012 at 5:12 am
You should go, but in any case you seem to have plenty of adventures!
March 12, 2012 at 5:09 pm
Meg, I wish my person would take me with her, but I guess I’ll have to have adventures without her for a few days.
March 12, 2012 at 8:00 am
Quick, Bongo! In the bag… she’ll never notice. I’ll bet you could make lots of friends in Indiana.
March 12, 2012 at 5:16 pm
Diane, my person really should have let me go with her. She says I already have friends there. Some of her friends are asking about me.
March 12, 2012 at 10:43 am
Indiana welcomes your Person Bongo!!! It’s too bad that you couldn’t sneak into that suitcase & tag along with her
March 12, 2012 at 5:19 pm
Jackie, my person says some of her friends are asking about me. She really should have let me come.
March 12, 2012 at 3:33 pm
At least you get to stay home Bongo. That’s nice. Maybe you can chill and relax for a bit! 🙂
March 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm
Sunshine, I am glad that my younger person is staying home, but I would gotten to have more adventures if I got to go with my person.
March 12, 2012 at 6:29 pm
Those Indian Paintbrushes are really cool. Sorry about the suitcase.
March 12, 2012 at 7:06 pm
Brown Dawgs, I’m kind of bummed that my person packed her suitcase and left. At least she’s still helping me make comments.
