This is a really true mystery. I’m not the only one looking into this, but I think I need my Detective Dog hat for sure. They’re gonna need my help.
Here’s what happened…
A couple of days ago my person and I were on our walk on my trails like we do every day. Nothing unusual was happening. It was a nice day and we met lots of dogs and people.
We were headed back toward home when all of a sudden… it happened.
A big loud boom! It sounded like thunder.
And then there was another boom, right behind the first one.
I was scared. Those of you who have been my friends for awhile know that I don’t like thunder at all.
But my person told me that it couldn’t possibly be thunder because there were no thunder clouds in the sky.
What does she know? It sure sounded like thunder.
Anyway, I was really glad to get back home and safe inside my house.
***
Well, yesterday my person found out something about those big, loud booms.
You know what she found out? She found out that nobody knows what they are.
And just to prove that I’m not getting some strange kind of thunder fear syndrome left over from all the storms we had last summer I’m going to share the articles my person found about those booms.
Here’s an article from the Verde Independent and here’s another one from CBS 5 News.
I’m heading out now to offer my help with this investigation, so if I don’t come back by tomorrow —could somebody please bring me some earplugs?

You’re so cute, Bongo. Sure sounds like sonic booms to me. When we moved to Florida a million years ago, the space shuttle landed only about an hour from our house. The first time it did, I ran out to the garage, thinking my washer and dryer had both fallen over. Twin sonic booms. It’s AWESOME. Eventually the dog and kids and I got used to it. Someone’s playing tricks on y’all at the base.

FleaByte, my person says when she first moved to Arizona she heard lots of sonic booms because the military jets flew over her small town all the time. But they stopped that many years ago and we haven’t been hearing any. That could be what it was since nobody seemed to find any evidence of an explosion or anything. I hope you got to see the space shuttle take off.

Forget the hat – bust out the ThunderShirt, just in case. Loud noises are scary, even when they’re not thunder. Good luck, B. Keep us posted.

Cupcake, I think you’re right. With noises like that it’s definitely time to bust out the ThunderShirt. Those noises were scary.

OMD! This is really mystery……what that Boom Boom sound is? Scary isn’t it? I hope it won’t harm anything and anyone, Bongo. Good lucks with your investigation! 🙂

Kevin, it was scary when it happened and I guess it was even louder in some of the other towns nearby. But since it hasn’t happened again everyone is more curious than scared now. I’m still working on my investigation.

Good luck with your investigation Bongo I can tell by that photo that you are hot on the case. I see someone said it was Santa Paws riding over in his sleigh – have you ruled that out?

Bosun Dawg, I’m really hoping it’s Santa Paws. That means I might get some early treat and maybe some toys too.

Treats? Did you say treats, Sage? I’m on it. I’m working double hard to solve that mystery now.

Oh no, not new booms! You know I hate boomers as much as you do Bongo. We get them when there isn’t even a storm & Diane found out that there’s this place called Ft. Devens & they do things called maneuvers that makes a lot of noise. Now since everyone in my town gets upset when this happens & calls the police station, they’ve posted days when they’re going to be making booms! Can you imagine making booms when you don’t need to? They aren’t even near us but we found out we’re on a fault line so the booms come all the way down here. It sure is a fault line & it’s all their fault that I had to hide my head under the pillow.

Lola, that is so bad. Why would anybody make booms on purpose? My booms haven’t come back so you can come over here if the booms get too much for you.

I’ll have Diane check the schedule – maybe I can get down there before the next time. I’m with you. Why would you make booms just to make booms. Do you think they like to scare dogs?
Bongo
December 8, 2012 at 3:00 pm
Lola, I think they’re kind of like little boys having fun with firecrackers. For some reason they like those loud booms and don’t even think about what it does to us.

O, Bongo, it must be really Santa’s sleigh, loosing some presents on his way to the children… and dogs 😀
Bongo
December 10, 2012 at 10:08 pm
Angel’s Whisper, I’d better look for where those presents dropped. I could get loves from all the children if I get their presents to them – and maybe some treats too.
