Today when I headed out my front door to go for a walk on my trails Toby, my neighbor dog was heading out his front door too. To go for a walk on my trails.
Toby’s my friend so I always let him use my trails, but we don’t often use them at the same time. Today would be a special treat.
Toby always smells really good so I give him a few sniffs every time we meet.
.
Then off we headed to the trails.
We were walking along enjoying each other’s company and checking out a smell or two, when I looked back (I’m usually in the lead) and Toby was going the wrong way.
Toby was taking the trail that headed back home!
Toby, wait! We’ve barely gotten started.
Come back Toby! There are more trails to explore. More adventures to be had.
More smells to sniff.
Toby missed it all. I had to trek on the trails without him.
And what’s more disappointing is that I had hoped he could help me with my Detective Dog work – you know, kind of like Dr. Watson was to Sherlock Holmes.
Because I’ve got another mystery to solve.
I’ve got to figure out what this giant asparagus is doing poking out of this spiky ball.
Maybe I should go bark at Toby’s door.

It is clear that you are a lot more intelligent than Toby!

Ingrid, I think Toby just isn’t as adventurous as me. I need to teach him how to have fun.

…and tell him: “Elementary my dear Watson”!
I think Toby couldn’t keep up with the grand master of trails!
I wonder too, by the way [about that asparagus]!

Marina, if that asparagus wasn’t protected by all those spiky things I might taste it and see if it is any good. My person says it’s a yucca plant. When the asparagus gets taller it will blossom

Ah, a yucca plant! When they blossom they’re beautiful!

Ah well Bongo, I can relate to Toby. We’re just not walking dudes. I like my walks, don’t get me wrong but they have to be short walks or else I have to roll onto my back w/my feet sticking up in the air to let Diane know when I’m done…Lola

Lola, you and Toby would probably get along well.

That spikey asparagus holder looks pinchy and deadly. Be careful of your bits and pieces around that thing, B.

Cupcake, I do have to be very careful around those things. We have some in my yard too and if I get too close I get poked.

Maybe Toby is more of an inside dog

Susan, Toby usually goes on lots of short walks, but I guess he hangs out in his house the rest of the time.

Maybe Toby has to break into the detective business slowly? Having a sidekick detective could be a lot of fun

Karen, I’ll have to work at teaching Toby the ropes. It would be fun to hang out and solve mysteries with him.

Maybe Toby became too shy or became scared of something and that why he left. We hope he is ok.

Alex, Trish, and Penny, I think Toby just likes to take lots of little short walks and I take one long walk. Long walks are better because you can have more adventures. I’ve just got to convince Toby of that.

Wonder why Toby turned around and went home. He missed so much of the fun sniffing. Maybe he will come walk with you again and go all the way on your trail 🙂

Lexie and Mica, Toby usually just takes short walks on my trails. I’m going to have to convince him that longer walks are more adventurous.

Like you Bongo, I prefer taking one long walk to lots of little short ones. What a shame that Toby didn’t keep company with you until the end….That asparagus plant is very interesting! You have lots of mysterious plants on your trails, Bongo! 🙂

Kevin, I’m disappointed too that Toby didn’t stick with me. He could have helped me get to that big asparagus. My person says it’s a yucca and it will have blossoms pretty soon.

I think you should introduce the art of taking long walks to Toby. You should go first on shorter walks and increase the distance every day. I’m sure he would be a very talented pupil and you were a big master!

Kolytyi, maybe I should bark at Toby’s door when I’m going for a walk. Then I’ll just keep after him every day until he sticks with me for the whole walk. We could have the best adventures together.
