There’s really been a flurry of activity around my puddle lately.
First the tadpoles, then the toadies, then those mysterious tracks that I told you about yesterday. You know, the evidence of those strange creatures that took off with my puddle.
So today when we got to my puddle it had come back. Well, at least part of it was back.
I was so excited!
And you know what my person did? She tied me up again.
What now? The tadpoles are gone, and most of the toadies have hopped away.
Yeah, I know there’s still a few toadies around. I won’t step on them. I promise.
But today there was someone else near my puddle.
Butterflies!
And not just any butterflies. We had come across the Arizona state butterfly – the Two-tailed Swallowtail.
And those butterflies seemed to be getting pretty cozy.
Something strange was happening.
I wanted to go home and get my Nature Dog hat so I could investigate – but being tied up put a cramp in my style.
My person says these butterflies are supposed to lay single eggs on plants, but one of these butterflies seemed to be laying bunches of eggs in a mud hole.
I guess the other butterfly thought it strange too.
He started dancing around. Maybe he was nervous.
But I think that butterfly beat around the bush – I mean around my puddle – a little too long.
Because the competition showed up.
And now that my puddle has a butterfly party going on in it, I’m just wondering one thing.
Am I ever going to get to play in my puddle again?

I think you should wear a butterfly-costume and join the party!

Come on over Kolytyi. As long as you leave my little bit of puddle where it is.

Sweet Bongo we are happy to hear that at least part of your puddle is back. Maybe by the next time you go check it all of it will be back. Those butterflies are gorgeous and the pictures are outstanding! Hugs and nose kisses

Thanks Chancy and Mag. I’m still waiting for the rest of my puddle. It’s such a mystery.

Maybe the butterflies will bring good luck and your puddle will be back tomorrow! Woooowoooooo!

Ku, that would be so cool. Maybe the butterflies know where the puddle was taken, but they can only bring it back a little bit at a time. It is a lot bigger than those butterflies.

Whoa. Your puddle must be a mysterious portal of magic or something…who know’s what’ll show up next? (Don’t get too close!)

Karen, I think you’re right. If I get too close I might be pulled into who know where. Maybe that’s why my person keeps tying me up to that dead tree when we’re near the puddle.

Cool! I’ve never seen butterflies before. They are beautiful and awesome. But you know, they need to have their little fly party somewhere away from your puddle. That’s *your* puddle. You’ll have it back soon – I’m so sure. Have an awesome weekend my friend. XOXO – Bacon

Thanks Bacon. Butterflies are really cool. These are the biggest butterflies that we have around here. We have other kinds and some are very beautiful, but they’re all a lot smaller. I bet you’d like chasing them though.

Cupcake, you just made me think of something. Maybe I could tie string to some of those butterflies and attach them to my collar so they cool me off on hot days.

Sorry you got tied up bongo but your mom took some gorgeous butterfly pictures to share with us all…I’ve seen butterflies play in mud before but never was sure why they did it

Thanks Gizmo. Sometimes we see those butterflies stopping near my puddle and I think they’re just getting a drink of water, but this time that wasn’t what they were doing.

Thanks Kevin. My person was gone all day yesterday so I didn’t get to go check on my puddle. And now she says we have to wait until later today when it cools off some. (She went away again this morning too.) I sure hope I find my puddle all the way back again.

Bongo, get some flowers to put on your nature head and maybe you can catch the butterflies -they’re beautiful by the way- if not, you call me 😀

not more things playing on your puddle, um maybe you could get your person to carry a spare water bottle with you when you walk, and you could dig a whole, she could fill it and then all the insects and bug things can go and play in that puddle and you can have yours!

Dalton, maybe my person could carry some big jugs of water so my puddle can come back full size.
