About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Cleaning Up

Bongo Stole the BowlMy person is not the best housekeeper in the world. I don’t mind at all though. Sometimes she leaves dirty dishes in the sink and leaves the house. Sometimes there are some really nice smells coming from those dirty dishes.

Fortunately I’m big enough to put my paws up on the counter in front of the sink and reach in. I’ll grab the best smelling bowl with my mouth and carry it over to the nice, cozy carpet where I can sit in comfort and have a tasty treat- well, lick. There’s usually not much food left in them. If I’m lucky the smaller bowls have the best stuff in them. I haven’t figured out how to get some of those big ones out of the sink.

The only thing is that I keep forgetting to put the bowls back in the sink when I’m through with them. When my people come home they find them and I get yelled at. I don’t get yelled at too much though, as long as I remember not to chew the bowl that the food came in.

Tangled

Tangled in a TreeMy person takes me on walks almost every day. We have trails near our house with lots of trees, bushes, and great smells. Most of the smells are right along the trail, so I can stick with my person and still enjoy the aroma. She does drag me away far too often though. Sometimes she has no patience. She thinks I only want to walk. I really want to smell.

Every once in awhile I get the whiff of a really great smell hanging around under a tree or bush a ways off the trail. Sometimes that scent is elusive and I have to crawl under a tree and search through branches to find the strongest point. My person gets all frustrated when I do this. When I’m ready to come back to the trail she tries to get me to take a long way around. That doesn’t make any sense to me at all. The shortest way is the smartest so that’s what I’m going to do.

Well, I thought I was going to do that. My person must be holding tight to my leash because I can’t go anywhere. Come on – stop playing games and let me go. I’m not sure what she’s doing with my leash now. It looks like she got it all tangled up.

Thunder Fears Be Gone

Bongo Modeling his Anxiety WrapMy person got me an Anxiety Wrap and she said she hopes it will calm me down during thunder. The only thing is she got it at the end of thunder season. I don’t know what she was thinking. I don’t need it now.

Well, my person must have special powers or something because she made the thunderstorms come back so she could try out that anxiety wrap on me. The first part of this week both my people left for the day and they left me with that anxiety wrap on. When they came home my person said she worried about what I would do because there was really loud thunder where she went. I didn’t think it was that bad. Maybe her thunder was louder. I did my usual stuff – eat the cat food, invade the litter box, and mess up my person’s bed – but I didn’t break anything. I swear I didn’t.

My person has been putting that vest on me before she leaves all week. One time she took it off and it started thundering right after that. I think my person made that thunder come so she’d have an excuse to put the vest on me again. I have to admit that the thunder isn’t quite so scary when I have the vest on.

It was really embarrassing though when my person made me go for walks in that vest. I’m sure glad we didn’t see any other dogs. I would have been really upset if they laughed at me.

Get the Frisbee

Bongo and his FrisbeeIt’s October now and the weather is finally getting a little cooler. You know what that means? That means I have more energy to catch more Frisbees. In the summer it’s just too hot. I’ll catch it once or twice and then I’ve had it. I’m ready to go back into the nice, air-conditioned house. I might pick up a soft ball inside and ask my person to throw that for me, but usually I just want to take a nap. A nap on the nice, cool tiles in the bathroom.

But now, I feel like catching a few more Frisbees when I’m outside. Not a lot yet. It’s not quite that cool. But when it does cool off enough I like to wear my person out. She keeps my Frisbee up high where I can’t reach it. She says she doesn’t want me to chew it up, which is a bummer because I love the feeling of chewing on plastic. When I get her to let me out, if she doesn’t grab that Frisbee I remind her by a tilt of my head in the right direction. She knows what I’m talking about.

Pretty soon now it’ll be cool enough and my person will quit before I’m ready to. I don’t know why she gets worn out so easily. After all, in the cool weather we should be able to play Frisbee all day.

Hijacked!

Scratchy on the CounterHi there. This is Scratchy here. You know, the cat that Bongo lives with. While he’s not looking I thought I’d take over his blog. He took over my house a few years ago so the least I can do is take over his blog. I have a lot to say about Bongo but there’s one good thing. When my person works on her computer I like to sit on the counter top next to her. She doesn’t like me sitting there, but as soon as she starts to chase me off Bongo comes out and starts jumping up and down and trying to get in the middle of things. This drives my person crazy, so she usually lets me stay on the counter.

Scratchy! What are you doing on my blog? Get off! This is my blog! Do I have to start jumping up and down to get you off my blog? Okay, here goes. Yes!!! You’re going to have a hard time getting on my blog from the top of the kitchen cabinets.

Okay it’s me – Bongo. Don’t pay any attention to what that darn cat Scratchy said. I hope he didn’t mess things up for me. Tomorrow I promise it will be me on this blog. I’ll make sure Scratchy stays put.

Water Blockage

Bongo can't get to the water. My younger person was not very nice to me. He knows how much I like the water spraying out of the garden hose. I love to get in front of the hose and drink that water. It’s so much fun! You know what he did to me?

I was in the house and he was in the back yard. The door was open but the screen door was closed – well, it used to be a screen door. I kind of trashed the screen a long time ago. Anyway, the ex-screen door was closed. It has glass in it so you can see outside. I was looking outside through that glass, wishing I could be out there when my younger person took the hose and sprayed it right at me.

The water came right toward me, but the glass stopped it and I couldn’t get to it. I couldn’t drink it or anything. I don’t know what my younger person was thinking. Did he think maybe the water would go through the glass? Why didn’t he open the door and let me out to get the water? He must have seen that I couldn’t get to it. All he did was laugh. Sometimes I don’t think my people are very smart.

This is a Shower?

Getting a ShowerI love water coming out of the garden hose. My favorite thing to do is get my mouth right in front of the nozzle and drink. Something about that water spraying out really excites me. My person gets kind of upset with me when she is watering the garden because I come over and get all the water before the plants do.

Since I like water coming out of the hose so much, my person decided that she could give me showers instead of baths. More water goes in me than on me and I think it’s great fun. It feels good when my person rubs me all over, but then she does something really strange. She grabs the skin on the back of my neck so I can’t move much and then she sprays water on my body. What gives here? I want that water coming at my mouth. I can’t drink it when it’s aimed back there. My person just doesn’t know how to do it right sometimes.

Exploring Sugarloaf

Ever since my blogging friend Bassa climbed up a mountain awhile back I’ve been wanting to climb a mountain. My person finally said it had gotten cool enough today so we could go. The mountain we climbed isn’t really a mountain – it’s a big rock called Sugarloaf.

My person got a little upset with me when she had to drag me away from the stuff I was sniffing. She said she was hoping I would pull her up the mountain. When we went back down I did try to pull her, but she wouldn’t go for it and kept walking at the same pace. A dog just can’t win.

At first I had fun sniffing all the new dog smells and didn’t care much about the scenery.

But I finally started looking around.

On the way back I had to cross a slippery slope.

Here are some pictures of Sugarloaf – the big rock we climbed.

When we got back home I was concerned for a bit. Scratchy didn’t want to climb the rock with us and he was hanging out at home. I was thirsty. What if he drank all the water in my water dish?

Vacuuming Bongo

Vacuuming BongoYou’d never know it because my hair doesn’t seem that long, but I shed a lot. This doesn’t seem to bother me, but my people are always complaining about it. It seems they’re always vacuuming the carpet and sweeping the floor and they tell me it’s all my hair that they’re picking up. That might be right because I pick up all the food they drop. They shouldn’t complain about picking up my hair. Just think of all the extra work they’d have if I didn’t pick up the food on the floor.

My shedding started early this year – way back in January. It first starts with little clumps of hair coming loose from my rear. My person starts picking them out so they won’t get all over the house. Imagine having someone pick at your butt. Actually I don’t mind it nearly as much as she minds it when I stick my nose in hers.

My younger person decided to do something different. It felt kind of weird. He vacuumed me! At least he used the little vacuum cleaner that isn’t so noisy. I would have been very upset if he had used that big, noisy one. I don’t know if that little vacuum cleaner did any good, but if I need to get rid of some hair I can always roll around on the carpet.

Hanging Out

Staying in the YardI’ve got my person trained pretty well. She won’t leave me alone in the yard by myself. It’s kind of a bummer on nice days. Sometimes I’d like to hang out outside, but my person is afraid I’ll jump the fence. I don’t know why. It’s not like I do it all the time. Besides, it’s a lot of work to get over that fence. I think I deserve to run free after all that work.

Anyway, back to training my person – since she won’t leave me in the yard by myself she has to have a way to get me back into the house. Most of the time I’m nice to her and I go back in on my own. Sometimes though, I really don’t feel like going in. Sometimes I want to run around the yard, sometimes I want to eat a few weeds, and sometimes I want a treat.

When I wouldn’t come in my person started coaxing me in with treats. Whoopie! I love treats. I’m never coming in again until I hear the sound of that treat ringing in my bowl. This worked for a day or two and then my person got smart. Now I get treats when I come in on my own, but if she has to make me come in I don’t get a treat. I guess I’d better head on in that door.
