About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Rumbly Mischief

Thunder Clouds over SedonaSomebody is a mischief maker and I’m not quite sure who.

But I think it’s my person.

You see, when I woke up this morning the sky was full of clouds and it was rumbling thunder.

And it kept thundering until my person finally left the house.

And forced me to stay in dog jail, mind you, while that thunder was rumbling on.

.

.

But this is October and we’re not supposed to get thunder in October.

Bongo on the trail with red rocks and blue sky in the background

This is what an October day where I live is supposed to look like.

And most of the time October days do look like this.

And you know what?

After my person left, the sky cleared up.

When she came back home the sky was all blue.

And then she left again.

And this time when she came home the sky had changed once more.

Cloudy Sky and Red Rocks

Now it looked like this.

And the thunder had come back.

I’m sure my person had something to do with it.

But she’s paying, because there’s no way I’m taking her for a walk today.

Hungry Vision

The vision painted by Domenico FettiI’ve been waiting all week to see if Peter is going to leave all his treats or not.

Those people were about to come and try to take Peter away from where he became famous for raising a lady from the dead.

So what is it?

Will Peter stay, or will he go?

I am listening.

***

About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.

***

If he’s up on the roof those people won’t find him and he can stay.

Yes I am listening.

***

Peter became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared he fell into a trance.

***

Peter, I’m on my way!

You are going to share some of that meal with me aren’t you?

***

Peter saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

***

I’ve never had food that fresh before.

I’m on my way Peter!

Okay, I’ll listen. This is getting good.

***

“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

***

I’ll eat it.

***

The voice spoke to Peter a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

***

Get that Peter?

That stuff’s good to eat.

I’m almost there!

***

This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.

***

Pretend you’re not there Peter.

They’re going to take away all your treats.

***

While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.

***

I hope the Spirit is going to give Peter some treats then.

***

Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you are looking for. Why have you come?”

***

I bet they just want to steal Peter’s treats.

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say. Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

***

Peter, do you still have room for a dog?

Downed Nest

Bird nest on the groundSome bird dropped her nest right in my yard and flew the coop.

Or maybe the baby birds were ready to go and they tossed out their nest when they left.

So which is it?

I’ve got to go find them and ask them.

.

.

.

But I’ve got a dilemma.

Bongo looking away and a nest on the ground

Did they fly that way?

Bongo looking the opposite direction

Or did they fly over there?

Climbing School

Bongo looking at a vehicle with a paw print and a climbing school signI was heading out to my trails when something caught my attention in the parking lot.

A vehicle with a paw print and a climbing school sign.

Red vehicle with paw and climbing school sign

The only obvious conclusion is that they are offering a climbing school for dogs.

Or maybe a climbing school with dogs as the instructors.

That would make sense.

Us four leggers are much better at climbing than two leggers.

And we could teach them a thing or two.

I bet they’re up there on my trails somewhere.

Probably heading for those tall rocks.

And I’m going after them.

Bongo heading up the trail

Come on, person. Don’t slow me down.

I’ve got to go sign up to teach climbing.

Reasons to Go Out

I go out in the yard for a number of reasons.

Sometimes it’s to do my business.

But that’s not always the case.

Sometimes it’s nice outside – or there are good smells out there – and I just want to hang out in the yard for awhile.

Other times my people tell me to go outside.

And when I come back in when I’m told they give me a treat.

I like that treat thing.

So sometimes I ask to go out…

…so I can come back in again and get a treat.

Bongo waiting at the door to come in

Hey people, I’m ready to come in now.

Bongo with a sad look

Are you gonna give me a treat?

What do you mean, no?

Bongo sitting and waiting for a treat

How about now?

I’m in my best treat pose.

Come on. I came back in the house, didn’t I?

That’s got to be good for something.

The Friendliest Dog

When I’m on my trails my person won’t let me get near any dogs that aren’t already my friends.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to make new friends if I can’t get near them.

But this cute little number…

Bongo sniffing noses with another dog

…ran right up to me.

My person had no chance to put a damper on things.

And now I have a new girlfriend.

See, I get along fine with other dogs.

But could you just do something about my arch enemy – you know, that German Shepherd who lives around the corner from us?

Person, if you don’t stop talking to her person I’m going to give that dog what for again.

Only dogs I like are allowed on my trails.

Send the others away and I’ll get along with every dog I meet.

And I’ll be the friendliest dog around.

One Down – One More Up

Bongo's face in front of the computerI finally got my computer unlocked.

You see, yesterday Gizmo locked up my computer and I wasn’t able to post on my blog.

I hope nobody was worried about me.

Anyway, I’m back now.

And as soon as I finish here I’m going after Gizmo.

.

.

Wait! What?

Oh no. There’s something I’ve gotta do first.

I just can’t win.

I finally unravel Gizmo’s mischievous deed and now I just learned that my person has been up to mischief.

She went to a lake today.

Without me.

And what did she do?

gaggle of geese

She hung out with a gaggle of geese.

She could have at least gone swimming.

No More Mischief

Gizmo looking away from the computerThis is Gizmo here.

Today is Monday Mischief and I hear that Bongo’s been blaming me for all his mischief.

Bongo is full of mischief, and then to make things worse he tries to put the blame on me and Scratchy.

So in order to keep him from blaming us for any more mischief, I’m locking his computer before he can get on it.

He’ll be spending the rest of the day trying to figure out how to get it unlocked.

.

.

Gizmo stretched out on the couch

And I can relax.

Go Get Peter

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornelius_the_Centurion#mediaviewer/File:Gerbrand_van_den_Eeckhout_-_Vision_of_Cornelius_the_Centurion_-_Walters_372492.jpgI bet Peter got lots of treats for what he did in last week’s story.

You know, when he raised Dorcas from the dead in Joppa.

He became a celebrity in Joppa after that.

That’s probably why he stayed there for awhile.

I bet everyone liked him so much that they were always giving him treats.

What do you mean, he was being obedient to Jesus and he didn’t care about the treats?

I’d care.

You want me to listen to more of the story?

Do I get treats for listening?

***

At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment.

***

What does Cornelius have to do with Peter?

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

Cornelius and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.

***

Did he give Peter treats?

Maybe he’ll give me treats.

***

One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”

Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked.

***

That angel must not have had any treats with him.

Otherwise he wouldn’t have been scary.

I am listening.

***

The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God. Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter. He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea.

***

Wait a minute.

If Cornelius makes Peter leave Joppa where he’s famous, then won’t Peter be going to a place where he’s not famous?

Who will give him treats then?

***

When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants. He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.

***

You mean I have to wait until next week’s story to find out if Peter is going to leave all those treats and go with Cornelius’ servants?

Oh, wait.

That means I still have a week to hang out with Peter and get some of his treats.

Trail Spa

Bongo sniffing hair on the groundWhat is this?

Hmmm. It smells pretty good.

Kind of like one of my dog friends.

Wait a minute!

It is one of my dog friends.

Well, at least the hair of one of my dog friends.

.

Bongo sniffing more hair on the ground

There’s dog hair all over around here.

Somebody has turned this into a dog grooming trail.

A lot has happened on my trails, but this is the first I’ve heard of anyone being groomed on my trails.

Hey person, how come you don’t groom me here?

This looks like the spot to do it.

But wait a minute.

If somebody’s turning my trails into a grooming spot –

the next thing they’ll probably do is turn them into a fancy spa.

And they’ll probably do something like turn it all…

Sunset turning the trail pink

…pink.

Oh dear.

I might have to look for a new trail.

Pink and purple sunset sky

Yikes!

I’m outta here!
