The Worst Week Ever!

Bongo curled up in his kennelWhat a horrible week!

First my person got sick and wouldn’t take me for a walk.

Then it started thundering and I couldn’t go for a walk.

But you’re not going to believe what happened now.

Some bug bit my person in the foot and it’s all swollen up and she can’t take me for a walk again.

So now my person says that since I’m not having any adventures I might not have anything to post for a few days.

I guess you’ll see a poor, sad, out of shape dog in a few days.

In the meantime, I’m curling up for a nap.

Thunder in the Jail

What a terrible, horrible day it was!

Bongo in his dog jail on his new bed

My people locked me in dog jail and left.

It was only me and the cats in the house.

And then it happened.

I’m stuck in dog jail with thunder all around.

It was awful!

My person says when she was in the next town the thunder cracked right over her head and she had to drive next to a river that filled up the other lane of the road she was on.

All I can say is  –

She hasn’t seen anything.

She has no idea what it’s like when thunder tries to sneak in your dog jail.

Mischief on Me

Bongo looking at the sunset from his trailBelieve me, there has been some mischief around here.

And it wasn’t me.

It wasn’t even the cats.

It started with my person.

She pulled the sick thing – said she wasn’t up to taking me for a walk.

And I missed walks on two sunny, blue-sky days.

And then when she finally felt like she was up to taking me for a walk – it thundered.

And anybody who knows me knows that I don’t like thunder.

So here I am.

Three days of no walks.

What?

The thunder’s stopped?

We’re going for a walk?

.

Bye guys. I’m outta here!

Bright orange clouds in the sunset

Okay, I’m back.

That was a short walk.

And I think my person just wanted to take pictures of the sunset.

Orange clouds at sunset

She says she was doing it so I wouldn’t notice the other cloud.

What other cloud?

Thunder cloud in the sunset

What? Wait!

That’s no cloud.

That’s a thunderstorm!

I’m outta here!

On the Desert Road

Ethiopian eunuch and PhilipI’ve been praying all week for fish and treats and I still haven’t gotten any.

Well, maybe one or two treats.

But I want constant treats all day – you know, like falling out of the sky or something.

Or maybe dropping from the kitchen ceiling.

That would be even better.

Are there any treats in this story?

Not even fish?

There’s an angel?

Okay, I guess I’ll listen.

***

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road – the desert road – that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.

***

I guess if you’re on a desert road there’s one thing better than treats.

Water.

***

So Philip started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians.

***

I bet that Ethiopian had plenty of treats.

I think I’ll follow him for awhile.

I am too listening.

***

This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

***

I guess the Spirit wanted Philip to get some treats.

I’m right behind you Philip!

***

Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

“How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

***

If that was written in dog language I could explain it to him.

Woof!

I truly am listening.

***

The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture:

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,

and as a lamb before the shearer is silent,

so he did not open his mouth.

In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.

Who can speak of his descendants”

For his life was taken from the earth.”

***

That’s a really sad story.

***

The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

***

Oh yeah, that one’s a sad story with a happy ending.

***

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

***

How come I don’t get to be baptized.

It’s kind of like swimming and that sounds like fun.

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

***

Woah! I wonder what that eunuch was thinking about Philip now.

I would have been freaked if he disappeared on me.

***

Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

***

Wouldn’t that be cool to pop in and out like that?

I could pop in to the treat store, and where there were piles of fish.

And even to a swimming hole when I felt like swimming.

I wonder how many treats I would have to pay to be able to do that.

What about last week’s story?

Oh yeah, you can’t buy the Holy Spirit.

Okay, I’m praying.

I’m praying.

Safe Walk?

Bongo looking at the trailI decided to take my person for a walk a little earlier than usual today.

We had the trails to ourselves – except for the lizards and birds, that is – because nobody uses my trails in the middle of the day in the summer.

The clouds were covering the sun and it was not quite as hot as usual.

But that’s what I was watching.

.

.

.

.

The clouds.

Clouds

Pretty harmless so far.

I think we can keep going.

Cloud buildups with the sun on top

The sun’s still around.

Let’s walk further.

Cloud buildups behind Thunder Mountain

We’d better hurry.

That cloud’s beginning to look like something.

I’m not sure what, but it’s something.

Dark cloud buildups

Ummmmm…

Dark cloud buildups

Alright, I’m outta’ here.

That’s enough walking for today.

What a Difference a Day Can Make

Bongo on the trailYesterday was the worst day ever!

All day long there was thunder, thunder, thunder.

I didn’t dare take my person for a walk.

She would have gotten scared and run off for sure.

The thunder finally stopped at night, but the rain kept coming.

All night long it rained – and even into the morning.

But finally, everything changed.

My people left me – well, that’s another story – but while they were gone my neighbor dog Toby came and busted me out of dog jail and we went for a walk together.

Finally, my people came back home.

I got to show my person how much nicer things were on my trails.

The sun had come bursting through the clouds, the rain had cooled things down, the air was clean and fresh, and the hummingbirds darted here and there because there wasn’t even any wind.

And everywhere I stuck my nose…

Bongo sniffing some grass

…there were great sniffs.

Bongo sniffing some rocks

And more great sniffs.

Bongo in his puddle

My puddle was full.

Bongo under a juniper tree

I even found a tree that was willing to scratch my back.

Bongo sniffing the base of a bush

Oh, and did I remember to tell you how many great sniffs I found?

A day sure can make a difference.

Not That Way

Bongo's profile with his tongue outYesterday we had a lot of thunder.

So I decided not to take my person for a walk.

Who knows what she would have done if we got way out on my trails and it thundered on top of her.

***

Today we had more thunder.

But it kind of calmed down so I thought I’d brave it.

See if my person could handle it.

Because two days in a row is a long time to go without a walk.

My trails would miss me.

***

Everything was fine at first until it was time to turn around and head back.

Bongo heading up a dry wash

Hey person, you don’t want to go back that way.

That’s where the thunder is.

Let’s keep heading up this way.

Bongo pulling against his leash

Seriously person, you do not want to go back that way.

That thunder is dangerous!

Bongo facing a large rock as he pulls against his leash

Maybe if I hide behind this rock my person will get the message.

***

Okay fine, I came a little way with you.

I’m not going any further.

Bongo at the top of a little hill with his leash taut

I’m at the top of the hill.

I can see further and this is definitely far enough.

Bongo pulling against his leash from the top of the hill

You just don’t seem to get it, do you person.

Famous Gizmo

Bongo digging inWe had a horrendous thunder storm today so I wouldn’t couldn’t go on my walk.

I think my person was too scared of the thunder so I didn’t want to take a chance and take her.

I thought I would be nice to her and keep her safe at home.

So to pass the time I started looking at a magazine.

National Geographic.

And I learned something I never knew before.

.

.

Gizmo is famous.

Gizmo sitting up with his legs out

He not only has his picture on my blog, but he has a full page in National Geographic.

Don’t tell him that I’m a little bit jealous.

If he knew that I’d never hear the end of it.

And if you don’t believe me you can check out the online picture of Gizmo here: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2014/08/gombe-chimpanzees/shah-rogers-photography#/10-gizmo-670.jpg

What? You don’t think this looks anything like Gizmo?

That’s gotta show what happens when a little fame goes to your head.
