Friends

Bongo and TimmyMy person says that the other day someone found my blog by doing an image search for “bongo dog.” My person thought that it made sense to find my blog through that search, but she was curious what she would find so she checked it out.

She found several pictures of me and lots of other dogs too. Most of them probably had one of the best names I can think of – Bongo.

But then my person saw something really strange. It was a picture that looked like Chelsea, a dog friend of ours. When my person moused –(Aren’t those mouses the little creatures the coyotes eat?) – over the picture, sure enough, it was Chelsea. Chelsea can be found at www.loveofmydogs.com. She is a very special pup who was rescued and taken in as a foster dog by her person. Her person fell in love with her and decided to keep her, but Chelsea had injuries before she came to her forever home, that are requiring expensive surgery. You can learn more about Chelsea and how you can help her here.

Recently my person did the same search and couldn’t find Chelsea anywhere. She still found lots of pictures of me – and guess who else:

She found Alfie, the Collies, Uptown Dog, Lola, Henry, and a photo of a Spotted Dog taken by our dog photographer friend Laurie.

How cool is that? I went searching for myself and found my friends.

Where Are They?

Hey person. Can you help me look for something? I can’t seem to find them anywhere. I’ve been looking all over and I don’t know where they are.

Bongo Searching Under the Table

It’s been awfully windy lately. I’m thinking maybe the wind blew them away.

***

Or maybe those bluebirds took them. You know, the ones that invaded my puddle.

Bluebirds in a Puddle

That one in the tree looked like he was ready to swoop down and take whatever he wanted.

Bluebird

Oh here they are! They were here all along. You had them stashed on your computer, person. I think you were hiding them from me. My new awards!

In the past few days I’ve been nominated for three new awards.

Two Versatile Blogger Awards

Versatile Blogger Award

and a Liebster Blog Award

The Versatile Blogger awards came from:

For the Love of My Dogs at http://loveofmydogs.com. Harley, Scarlet, Chelsea and a cat named Roory are featured on this blog. You can find useful information about and for dogs here and then there’s my favorite part – recipes for nutritious and yummy dog treats.

Dogdaz at http://dogdaz.wordpress.com. Dogdaz is a fairly new blog and definitely worth visiting. Louise, Sofie Bear, and the cats are featured on this blog. In addition to the stories there is some extremely creative pet photography.

The Liebster Blog came from Jimmie Chew at http://jimmiechew.wordpress.com/. If you haven’t stopped by Jimmie Chew’s blog you definitely need to do it. You have to be a very special cat for me to say anything good (being that I’m a dog and all) but Jimmie Chew makes the grade. He’s studying to be a model and there are lots of photos of him on his blog. Words won’t do him justice. You’ve just got to see for yourself.

I think my person hid these awards from me because she was afraid they would go to my head. She says that since I’ve received these awards in the past, and I have so many great blogging friends, many who have already received these awards as well, I should follow in the footsteps of my friend Sweet Kitten at http://cosytravels.wordpress.com and put up a blog roll instead of passing these awards on again.

My person says it might take her awhile to get the blog roll together though. She promised me a Facebook page when I got 100 Followers, and she owes me.

Coyote Diet

Bongo and BerriesI might not be the pickiest of eaters. I’m still getting rid of those dried beans I ate yesterday. But I’m a lot pickier than some of those coyotes that live in my neighborhood. Most people think they just eat things like rabbits and mice – you know, those little creatures that go scurrying around. Well, they do eat those things. My person would get really upset if I ate one of those cute little animals, so I don’t. Besides, it’s really hard to catch those furry little things when she’s got me on a leash.

But those coyotes eat something that is really strange. It’s so strange that I don’t consider it food at all. We have them all over my front yard and I don’t so much as give them a sniff. But those coyotes do. They eat them by the bushel. Tons and tons of them. Little tiny, round, blue, hard as marbles juniper berries.

Why those coyotes eat them I have no idea. My person sweeps piles of them up from our driveway. A coyote feast full, or a slip-sliding disaster.

Come on coyotes. Come over to my house for a slip ‘n slide. When you get tired of that you can eat those juniper roly things and my person won’t have to leave me alone in the house while she goes out there with a broom.

And while you’re at it, you can have some of the beans that I left along the trail for you too.

Who Spilled the Beans?

Beans on the CarpetHey person, look at this pretty pattern I made on the carpet. Doesn’t it look nice?

What? I’m in trouble for that? No way!

I didn’t do it person. Honest, I swear. Scratchy did it. Look, he’s standing right over there. I just saw it and thought it was pretty. You know how much he likes to go counter surfing.

Scratchy near the Beans

What do you mean, most of the beans are missing? I don’t know what happened to them. Did you check under the furniture? Maybe Scratchy ate them.

I bet he could. I bet Scratchy could eat that many beans if he really put his mind to it. Can we go for a walk now? I really feel like I need to go for a walk.

Aaaahhhhh! That feels much better. Relief!

What!? You found the missing beans? Oh no!

Busted!!!

Dead Mouse Fan Club

The Dead Mouse Fan ClubSometimes I let my person look around my blog and she likes to see how people find me through searches. Well, ever since I posted Adventures of a Dead Mouse way last October searches have been finding it.

I think it’s all my fault. My person wouldn’t take a picture of the dead mouse that I found so I made her draw one to put on my blog. Nobody seems to care about what I wrote. They keep looking for that poor dead mouse my person drew with searches like “dead mouse drawing” or just “dead mouse.”

I think that mouse has its own fan club and nobody told me about it. I’m really upset, because if a mouse on my blog has a fan club then I want to join. And if those people who started the mouse’s fan club are really good at it, maybe they could start a Bongo fan club too. I’d definitely join that.

So fan club members, give me a few comments on my blog please. I want to join too.

I think those people must be really good at starting fan clubs because the mouse’s fan club has gone international. I hope they can all talk to each other because some of them write really funny. мёртвая мышь

Big Brown

Brown TruckThere’s a big brown truck that comes by here some days. Sometimes it stops in front of my house and a person gets out. Sometimes she comes right up to my door. I don’t know what business that person has coming to my door. I don’t know her. I don’t think my people know her either.

When strangers come to my house I bark. I jump up on the back of the couch so I can see out the window and I bark and bark. Nobody’s coming to my house unless I allow it.

My person tries to get me to stop barking, but what does she know. Doesn’t she know I’m trying to protect her? After all, who knows what that person might be up to? Pretty suspicious – dressed in the same color as that truck. She probably thinks no one will notice her leaving the truck when she dresses that way. She thinks she will blend right in. But she doesn’t.

I must have made it clear to that person that she’s not wanted here because she comes up to the door and turns right around and leaves. She gets back in her truck and drives away.

Take that, you brown clothed person. Just try coming to my door again. I’ll show you who’s the boss around here.

Ball No More

Bongo and his chewed up ballLast night I was in a chewing mood, and I started chewing on one of my new balls. There’s something about those balls – I just love the smell of them. I was chewing away, having a good time when my person looked over at what I was doing. She noticed that about half my ball was missing. Gone! Vamoose!

Yeah? So? I’m having fun chewing it up person.

You know what she did? You know what my person did!? She took that ball away from me and she threw it in the garbage. In the garbage, mind you. That was a perfectly good half ball and I still had a lot of chewing to do.

I’ll fix her. My person’s not going to stop me that easily. I found the bag with the rest of the balls in it. They’re my balls after all. It wasn’t easy, but I got one out of there.

And I chewed that one up too.

On My Way!

Bongo Getting LovesI’m doing it! I’m on my way! A couple days ago I posted my resolutions for the New Year. I made a bunch of resolutions that I was sure I would stick to because I didn’t want to feel like a failure at the end of the year. I didn’t want to find I’d made a bunch of resolutions that I couldn’t keep.

Then I started getting worried about resolution #4. “Get loves from at least one cute girl on every walk.” You see, most of my resolutions just depend on me. Well, me and my person, but it’s easy to talk her into things. I just have to start jumping and eventually she gets tired of it and gives in.

But resolution #4 depends not just on me, but on someone else as well. Not only do I have to find a cute girl on my walk, but I have to talk her into giving me loves. I can usually do this be being my sweet, charming self but that doesn’t work every time. What if she’s scared of dogs and doesn’t want to come near me? Or what if she’s in a hurry and has no time for loves? Personally I can’t think of anything better to do with your time, but some people don’t agree with me.

There are lots of reasons that my charm might not work, but I’m proud to say it worked today. I do have to admit I had an in. The cute girl giving me loves is my neighbor’s granddaughter. I bet she’s glad they have me for a neighbor.

In the Temple

Anna at the presentation of Jesus (right), fro...

“Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: ‘This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.’” Luke 2:34-35

Okay person, I’m confused. What are these words you put on my blog talking about? Is this about the baby who started out life in a manger? After all, his mother’s name was Mary. These words don’t sound good.

Now I’m really confused. My person said this is the same child, but these words by Simeon will have to wait until later stories. She said that when the baby was eight days old they circumcised him – they what? – my person says “never mind” – and at that time they gave him the name Jesus like the angel had told them to.

My person says they met Simeon when they took Jesus to the temple to consecrate him. Hey person, I haven’t heard about any animals in this story yet. Oh yeah? They what? She says there were animals at the temple that they used for sacrifices. I didn’t know what a sacrifice was so I asked my person and she told me I didn’t want to know. Well whatever it is, I hope they treat those animals nice.

Simeon had the Holy Spirit upon him and was told he would not die before he’d seen the Lord’s Christ. When he saw Jesus in the temple courts he knew he had seen God’s salvation. There was also an old lady named Anna who was a prophetess and she knew who Jesus was too.

Mary must have been pretty upset when Simeon told her about that sword. Maybe she should let Jesus have a pet dog. That dog would protect them.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from BongoI keep hearing people talk about New Year’s resolutions. I wasn’t sure what they were so I asked my person. She said they were things that people wanted to do, or thought they should do, but they hadn’t yet done them – often things like eating healthier, exercising more, getting more rest, or accomplishing something. So they decide to make a resolution that at the beginning of the New Year they will start doing whatever it is they think they should be doing.

My person said that most people don’t stick to their resolutions for very long. Starting a new year is not enough motivation for starting a new resolution. People need to find a better motivation, and start whatever it is they want to start right now – not wait until the next New Year.

I got really concerned, because I didn’t want to start any resolutions that I would just drop in a little while. But my person said to start new things now, and now happens to be the start of a new year. So I thought I’d make a list of resolutions that I know I won’t stop. Here’s my list:

  1. Take naps every day.
  2. Go for walks every day.
  3. Find a new scent on every walk.
  4. Get loves from at least one cute girl on every walk (unless I don’t meet any).
  5. Play Frisbee every day.
  6. Write a blog post every day.
  7. Eat doggie treats every day.
  8. Bark at every stranger that comes to the house (gotta warn my people).
  9. Get my person out of bed if she sleeps too long.

And last but not least –

10. Eat all the food in my doggie dish (except any olives I find).

My person pointed out to me that I already do all the things on my list. I don’t think she gets it. My resolutions cover eating right, exercising, resting, and getting things done – and I’ll still be doing them by the end of the year.
