Leaf Dropping

Manzanita bush with leaves on the groundWhat’s this?

This is the wrong time of the year.

And those leaves are the wrong color to be on the ground.

As a matter of fact, Manzanita leaves don’t fall to the ground.

They stay on the bushes all year.

And since this is the only place on my whole trails with a pile of leaves like this, I know there’s some culprit somewhere who is guilty of leaf dropping.

.

And it’s up to me to find out who it is.

Bongo sniffing the manzanita bush

I’m sure that leaf dropper left some evidence somewhere around this bush.

Hmmm. It’s hard to sort out the messages.

I’d better work on it though.

After all it is one of my favorite things to do.

Bongo sniffing under the manzanita bush

I bet there’s something under here.

It’s closer to the grounded leaves.

I’m sure there’s something under here that will give me a hint as to who the culprit is.

Bongo sniffing the bush with his feet near the fallen leaves

Nothing. Nada. I’m not having any luck.

I’m not finding any clues anywhere.

There’s only one thing I can tell for sure.

Those leaves have fallen and they can’t get up.

Monster Outside

Bongo outside with glowing eyesSomething really scary happened at my house.

There was a monster outside in my yard.

He had glowing eyes and he beckoned me to come out with him.

I don’t know what he wanted to do to me, but there was no way I was going to hang out with that monster.

So I stayed inside.

.

.

.

.

.

Bongo looking like he doesn't know what to do

I stayed close to my dog jail so I could hide in there if I needed to.

But then that monster came closer.

He tried to get in the house.

He even scratched on the door.

Bongo with glowing eyes outside a glass door

This is getting really serious.

Bongo looking serious

What am I going to do!?

That monster is going to break through the door!

Then my person got up.

I tried to warn her but she went over to the door anyway.

And she opened it.

Yikes! Woof! Bark bark! Yeoww! Woo woo!

I gave that monster what for and then my person said the strangest thing.

That monster is not me!

How can that monster be me?

Look, I’m sitting here as perfect as can be.

Bongo looking kind

I’ve been here all the time.

And I did not put those scratches on that door.

You know there’s a monster out there.

Slacking Again

Brown DogAwhile back I wrote about a dog I found who wasn’t doing her job.

You can check that story out here.

You see, she was out on my trails without giving a person a walk.

And that’s one of a dog’s jobs.

We’ve got to give our people exercise.

So today, guess who I saw.

The same brown dog slacking on the job again.

She was out having a great time all by herself.

At least she was friendlier this time.

Brown dog with Bongo

Oooh! I think I might have found a new girlfriend.

If she doesn’t have a person to give a walk to, she can help me give my person walks.

I was getting really excited at the thought of having a new girlfriend that would help out in the walk department when someone showed up.

It was my new girlfriend’s friend’s person.

And another dog too.

So much for that plan.

I wonder if there are any other cute girl dogs running around by themselves on my trails.

Empty Shell

Bongo checking out a peanut shellWhat’s this?

Somebody left something for me on my front porch?

Oh, I know what it is.

It’s a shell.

An empty shell.

.

.

Bongo's nose and a peanut shell

And I bet I know who left it here too.

That pesky squirrel.

Squirrel on a wire

The one that hangs out around here and gives me a bad time.

The one who stole my Christmas lights.

Squirrel in a tree with a Christmas light in his mouth

I bet that pesky squirrel thinks I’ll forgive him since he left me these peanut shells.

I bet that squirrel thinks he can trick me into being his friend.

But I know better than that.

I know what he’s up to.

He’s using my porch as a place to dump his garbage and trying to make me feel happy that he’s doing it.

But that pesky squirrel can’t fool me.

I know what he’s up to.

Because if that squirrel was sincere – if he was actually trying to make up for stealing my Christmas lights –

He would have left me the peanuts!

Travelling Afar

Bongo in the 4RunnerSometimes I go travelling in a car.

.

.

.

.

.

.

And sometimes I travel by foot.

Bongo heading down the trail

I’ve never before travelled so far that I couldn’t come back the same day.

But this time I went a whole lot further.

I’m not even sure how I got there.

I don’t remember getting there.

But I was there – I know it.

I have proof.

I really went there.

I really did go to Sydney.

I went and hung out with a bunch of friends.

My person says it takes hours and hours to get there from here – even if you go on a big jet.

I don’t remember hours and hours and I don’t remember anything about a big jet, so there must be another way.

My person told me there is another way.

She says I probably went there in my dreams.

Bongo curled up in his kennel

That must be it!

I never knew you could really travel somewhere in your dreams.

I guess I learned something today.

Because I’m not making this up.

I did really go there.

I’ve got proof.

And if you don’t believe me, click here.

See, I really was in Sydney, wasn’t I?

Can You See Him?

Jesus and Bartimaeus Mark 10 46-52
Last week Jesus said I had to serve people and I’m not going for it.

Unless it’s cleaning up the spills on the floors or giving you exercise.

So you might as well forget telling me a story this week.

What do you mean, you were going to tell me about another miracle that Jesus did?

I like miracles.

I changed my mind.

I’m listening.

I mean it.

I’m really listening.

You’re going to make me sit and roll over and beg first?

I know how to sit and I’m really good at begging – but I never figured out that roll over stuff.

Please tell me the story.

***

As Jesus approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.

***

Wow. That blind man can beg too.

Yes, I’m listening. I told you before that I was listening.

***

When the blind man heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

***

Hey, that blind man is kind of in the same shape I am.

I don’t know what Jesus looks like, and neither does he.

***

The blind man called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

***

Do you think Jesus would have mercy on me and give me some treats?

I am too listening.

***

Those who led the way rebuked the blind man and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to Him.

***

Oh no, that man’s in trouble now. He shouldn’t have shouted like that.

***

When the blind man came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”

***

Whoa! Wide open question.

I’d ask for some treats.

A whole bunch of treats.

***

“Lord, I want to see,” the blind man replied.

***

Is that all?

He should have asked to be able to see and for bunches of treats.

***

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

***

I’ll totally praise God if He gives me treats.

Trail Lost and Found

Bongo sniffing a red glove on the groundWe’ve been having such a warm winter that people on my trails keep taking off their clothes and dropping them.

I guess whoever belongs to this glove only had one hand that got too warm.

They must have still needed the other glove.

But something else was dropped too.

.

.

.

Bongo sniffing a bandana on the ground

Things keep appearing all over my trails.

People ought to do like I do.

Go outside a little early and check the wind.

Then they’d know if they needed all those extra clothes or not.

But there’s a place where all these extra clothes show up.

My person has even deposited things there.

Bongo looking at clothes on a rock

I call it the Trail Lost and Found.

Sometimes things show up there and they go away fast.

But other times things hang around there for a long time.

And I know why.

It’s still not cold enough.

Whoever dropped those extra clothes still doesn’t want to carry them around.

But if it gets really cold out I bet the Trail Lost and Found will empty out in no time.

So to keep the Lost and Found from getting piled too high I might have to do some searching to see if I can find the owners of the dropped clothes.

I’ll see if I can find some clues around here.

Bongo sniffing the bottom of a big rock

Hey, wait a minute!

What happened to that red glove?

It’s My Gotcha Day!

Today’s my Gotcha Day!

So instead of telling you about my Gotcha Day – because I did that here and here – I thought I’d do something different.

I posted a slide show of some of my favorite pictures.

I hope you like ‘em.

Unexpected Blog Blessings

How God Worked Through a Dog Blog

.

Bongo's face in front of the computerYour friends are what, person?

They’re stuck in Sydney and they don’t know when they can come home?

One of them is in the hospital?

And they don’t know anybody there?

That’s terrible!

Sydney is where?

The other side of the world?

Wait a minute.

Sydney. Isn’t that where my friend Bubba lives?

You know. Bubba!

Bubba on the computer screen

She’s always sending me little girl loves.

Sydney isn’t that far away.

It’s just beyond my trails somewhere.

I know that because I see her on my your computer all the time.

She couldn’t send me loves if she was too far away.

I bet Bubba could go give your friends some loves.

And her dogs Bella and Beary could help.

Bongo looking at Bella and Beary on the computer screen

Your friends would like that for sure.

Hey, I just realized Beary looks a lot like my neighbor dog Toby.

I guess that makes sense. Toby is an Australian dog.

Maybe Toby could visit your friends too.

***

You did what, person?

You contacted Bubba’s mumma and she went to help your friends?

You know that wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for me and my blog.

Well, and Bubba’s and her mumma’s blog too.

We’ve really found a lot of great friends through this blog, haven’t we?

Wait! What?

Your friends are going to get to hang out with Bubba in a few days?

No fair!

If I go to the hospital can I go to Sydney and see Bubba too?

***

For all my other great friends who read this blog, you can visit Bubba (and her mumma, and Bella and Beary) at http://bumpyroadtobubba.com/.

You might have to wait until my person’s friends come back home to visit them though.

Trail Block

Manzanita bush bloomingThere she goes again.

Taking pictures of flowers.

I’m in trouble from now till the end of summer.

There’s much better things to do than make your dog sit around and wait just so you can take flower pictures.

.

.

.

Manzanita blossoms

Didn’t you hear me?

I said there’s much better things.

Like maybe you should take notice of what’s going on around you.

Bongo near a line of rocks across the trail

Like this, for instance.

Just look at this!

Some do gooder is trying to block up my trails again.

They seem to do that all the time.

If there’s two ways to get somewhere they decide you only need one way and they block one off.

It doesn’t matter that everybody’s had those two options for years.

Don’t they know that variety is the spice of life?

Bongo looking like he wants something done about the rocks across the trail

Hey person, aren’t you going to do something about this?

Because this do gooder only blocked off one of the entrances to this trail.

So if I enter the trail on the unblocked side – I’ll eventually come around to this blocked part.

And if I’m an obedient dog that obeys all the trail blockings I won’t be able to cross over so I can continue on down the trail.

Then what do I do?

Hey person, if you take a picture of those flowers you’re going to have to cross over this blockade.
