About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Let’s Have Some Quiet

Gotta be louderMy person has a big machine to pick up all the hair I get on the carpets. She says it’s called a vacuum cleaner. That machine makes so much noise. It sounds like it’s trying to take over the house whenever it is turned on, and I have to do something about it.

So I bark at it. I get right down next to it on the floor and I bark. Most of the time it just keeps on making that noise and I have to bark over it, but sometimes it gets quiet. Sometimes when it gets quiet my person puts me in the bedroom and shuts the door. Pretty nervy of her – shutting me inside the bedroom. Then that vacuum cleaner thing starts right up with its noise, but it’s not quite so loud because I’m locked in the bedroom.

The noise gets far away for awhile, but then my person opens the bedroom door and in comes that vacuum cleaner – noise and all. Time to start barking again.

Finally the vacuum cleaner goes silent and gets put back in its closet. No more noise for awhile. Yay! But there doesn’t seem to be much of my hair on the carpet any more. I think I’ll roll around on it for awhile.

Calmer – or Not

My person got me a new coat. It’s called an Anxiety Wrap. It’s supposed to help me be calmer during thunder. I was kind of worried about this thing because I heard my person tell my younger person that she’d ordered it and the younger person said he hoped it was a straight jacket. I don’t know what a straight jacked is but it doesn’t sound good.

I couldn’t figure out what my person was doing when she put the thing on me. First she put my legs through some holes. Then she took my legs out. Then she put my legs in again. Then she messed with a bunch of stuff and finally it was on me the right way. I have to admit I was very good during all this.

Then my person wanted to take pictures of me in this new coat. Something about the click of the camera just excites me. My person said this coat was supposed to make me calm and relaxed but that camera got me all excited. First I started jumping – then I began dragging one of my toys all around the living room. Then I jumped and grabbed onto my person. It was so much fun.

I guess my person had enough of my over-activity because she put the camera away. Or maybe it was because I made her drop it when I jumped on her. Anyway, without the camera clicking it wasn’t any fun anymore and I did what I usually do. Sleep.

Gotta Run

Bongo is out the doorMy person left me home alone with Scratchy all morning and when she came back she brought a friend with her. I love it when friends come over to the house. I get really excited because now I have a new person to play with me. Sometimes my people get tired of playing with me, but I haven’t had a chance to wear out the new person yet.

Well, my person let me outside for a few minutes and did something on her computer, and then she and her friend did something unthinkable. They started heading out the front door. They’d only been here a few minutes and they were going to leave. I hadn’t even had a chance to give a slobbery ball to my person’s friend so she could throw it for me to catch. I mean, that’s dog abuse isn’t it? Leaving and taking the friend away before we’ve had a chance to play?

Well, I could play this game too. The friend was in front of my person at the door so I knew I had a chance and I took it. I ran for it and made it out the door before anyone could catch me. Off to the yard across the street I ran, and when my person came toward me I headed to the next block. She won’t be able to catch me until I’m good and ready to be caught. No sign of anybody and I’m having a great time. Running down the street and off on another side street.

Hey, here comes a vehicle and it’s stopping right next to me. Ride time. I don’t recognize the vehicle but I hear my person’s voice coming out of it. Guess I’ll just wait here until she lets me in.

Hey, wait a minute. They just drove me home, took me in the house, and left. What kind of justice is that? I want a do over.

Will Work for Food

Reaching for foodThe younger person that I live with is supposed to feed me my dinner and sometimes he’s not very accurate when it comes to aiming the food into my dish. Sometimes a few pieces of food spill out of the cup when he’s getting it out of the dog food bag. The bag is kept in the garage and I don’t go in there very often, but when I do it’s a real treat. I find little morsels on the floor. My person has trouble getting me to leave the garage until I’ve found every last one.

Sometimes the younger person must have extra energy in his arm when he puts the food in my dish because some of it bounces into the dish and then bounces right back out again. This can be a problem for me because my dish sits next to a little table with a couple chairs. It’s really hard to get behind them to get those extra pieces of food. There’s no stopping me though. I’ve got to do it. It’s food, after all.

Zombie Dog Apocalypse

Bongo with his HandyworkIt was awful! The worst storm this year. Thunder blasting so loud my ears hurt. Light flashing through the windows into the house, and the pounding, pounding, pounding on the roof. It was so loud – and scary. The worst part about it was that nobody was home except Scratchy and me. My people were both gone somewhere and Scratchy doesn’t care. He can’t protect me.

I had to do something to protect myself. I had to find a way to get away from it.

This door. Maybe there’s a way out through it. Can I do it? Can I get through it? Faster, faster. Gotta work faster. I’m scared. Whew! Made it. There’s a hole in the door big enough to get through. Noooo! Noooo! There’s no way out through here. This bath mat is just in the way. I’m tossing it out through the hole.

Maybe there’s a way through here. My paws hurt. No time to think about it. Up here. Maybe this is a way out. Maybe if I tear this metal thing with the knobs on it away. One knob fell off. What’s that sound? Now the water’s running inside here too. It’s the same sound I hear when one of my people bring a bunch of clothes in here. Maybe I can stop it. Let me pull the rest of this metal thing off.

Oh good. I hear my person’s car. She can protect me. Oh no. What’s she gonna say about all this mess in here? I’d better be quiet and hide out. Maybe she won’t find me. No good. She’s looking at me through the hole in the door. Oops!

Special Treats

Today is exactly one month since I’ve been blogging and I have to say I’ve been having tons of fun. My person thinks that the more I blog, the more trouble I get into so I’ll have more stuff to write about. Maybe she’s right. I got in all kinds of trouble yesterday, but I’m still in trouble for it so I can’t write about it yet. Maybe tomorrow.

I had a special surprise yesterday. One of my first blogging friends, Bassa, sent me a message that she (I think Bassa is a she) had given me two blogging awards. I’m so excited! Thank you Bassa.

Bassa is a Caucasian Shepherd who writes a daily blog and posts all kinds of cool pictures. You can check Bassa’s blog out at http://bassasblog.wordpress.com.

I don’t think I’m as sweet as Bassa, but maybe there’s a little bit of sweetness in me since I received this sweet award.

The “rules” of this award are the following:

1. Thank and link to the person who awarded you.

2. Share seven random facts about yourself.

3. Pass the award on to 5 more blogging friends.

4. Contact those friends and congratulate them!

Let’s see – what are seven random facts about me?

  1.  I’ll eat anything – fruit, vegetables, meat (mmm), dog food, plastic (yes, even plastic) – except olives. I hate olives.
  2. I don’t like it when Scratchy scratches my nose.
  3. My person won’t ever let me off my leash because she thinks I’ll run away (she’s right).
  4. I can jump really high.
  5. I love to drag my Frisbee through the snow.
  6. I rescued a little dog from a coyote attack once.
  7. I’m a home wrecker (well, maybe just doors, blinds, and washing machines) – (My person made me put this last one in – she said I’d have to get off the computer if I didn’t).

So much for my random facts. Now I need to pass on the awards to five blogger friends. There are two that deserve special mention, but Bassa already beat me to giving them awards. They are Rumpy Dog at http://rumpydog.wordpress.com/ and Bones at http://bonesdiary.wordpress.com/. These are two great dogs with really fun blogs. So, the special moment. My awards go to:

Lola doesn’t get to write on her person’s blog very often, but her person loves to write and has great coffee mugs. Lola visited my home town one time and she reads my blog a lot and comments on it. You can find Lola and her person at http://sharyhover.com .

Tiffany Dickerson writes about her faith journeys and they’re fun to read. She really made my day when she was one of the first to subscribe to my blog. You can find her at http://thewriteplacethewritetime.wordpress.com.

Sandra Branum writes some cool poetry and stuff. Her blog is at http://sandrabranum.wordpress.com.

Iowa Dog Blog is a new friend and has great pictures and stories about the dogs. You can find them at iowadogblog.wordpress.com

Stealing Faith is a great blog that one of my person’s friends writes. It’s really funny and fun. I don’t even know if she reads my blog, but that’s okay. Her blog is at http://stealingfaith.com/.
Congratulations to my 5 blogger friends. You fully deserve these awards!

To pick up the awards you should:

  • Thank and link to the person who nominates you.
  • Share seven random facts about yourself.
  • Pass the award to five more blogger friends.
  • Contact and congratulate the blogs nominated.

It’s been really hard for me to write all this serious stuff, but my person told me if I didn’t do it I would be in deep trouble.

Scratchy and Bubba

Scratchy and Bubba

Scratchy and Bubba

Bubba lives across the street. He’s black like Scratchy. He used to hang out in our yard a lot. He would lay in the driveway or in the yard. Sometimes he would get on our window ledge and peek in. Scratchy would get on the other side of the window and growl at him when he did that. Scratchy seems to think he owns the area outside our house even though he doesn’t get to go out there.

What Scratchy doesn’t realize is that the area outside our house is mine. I’m the only one who gets to go out there – besides my people, that is. I had to convince Bubba of that too. It’s kind of hard to chase a cat when you’re on a leash, but I managed to do it. It’s really fun when cats run away.

I finally got the message through to Bubba. He doesn’t come over in our yard any more. He stays at home. I kind of wish he’d come back though. I need another cat to chase.

Doggie Destruction

Bongo's Handiwork

Oops!

Oops. I didn’t mean to do it. Truly I didn’t. But my people left me –again. And then it happened – again. I just had to find a way out. Any way out. I didn’t care how I did it. I didn’t care about getting in trouble. Whatever I had to dig up or tear down – I was gonna do it.

Oh no! Here they come. Good, it’s still thundering. Maybe if I shake real hard like I’m really, really scared, they’ll feel sorry for me and I won’t get in too much trouble. Maybe. Oh please, please, please.

Hey, what’s with this Marley dog my person is talking about? Here I just tore up the house and I’m expecting to get a lot of attention – even if it’s bad attention – and she’s talking about Marley. Does she have a new friend? Does she like Marley better than me? My person says Marley and Me was her favorite book because it made her feel like I wasn’t so bad. But she says I’m a close second now. I don’t want to be second. I want to be first.

Cabinet Cat

Scratchy's Safe Place

Scratchy's Safe Place

When I first came to live in my house Scratchy was already there. I don’t think he liked me very much. I hardly knew he was around for a long time. He hung out on top of the kitchen cabinets and only came down to eat and use his litter box. Then he jumped right back up to the top of those cabinets.

I kind of wanted to get to know Scratchy, but I really didn’t mind that he stayed out of the way because that meant I had the people all to myself. I had been living in dog jail for a long time and I had to share the people there with lots of other dogs. Having people of my own was like heaven for me.

Scratchy finally got tired of hanging out by himself and decided to come down. It took him about ten months though. Now I had someone else to play with, but he didn’t play fair. He’d jump up onto a counter so he was higher than me and when I jumped up to get to the same height he’d scratch me on the nose. Ouch!!!

Berry Blast

What are these things on the ground?

What are these things on the ground?

Last night I heard it. My person had music on but I still could hear it. A couple loud rumbles – my least favorite sound. I have trouble holding everything in when the storms come around, so when my person offered to take me outside I went for it.

She put my leash on and I drug her to the front door. I had to get out in a hurry. We went outside and I drug her close to my favorite front yard pine tree. Thunder rumbled and lightning flashed. The lightning reflected throughout the clouds, and it flashed and reflected again.

And then it happened. My person and I were being pelted. It didn’t feel like rain – we weren’t getting wet. Maybe it was hail. I don’t think so though. Hail this big would hurt when it hit. Oh, no. That juniper tree over there. That’s what it is. The wind is blowing and the tree is letting go. We’re being pelted with flying juniper berries. I think I discovered a new kind of weather.
