Up in the Sky

Jesus ascending to heavenI’ve been out swimming – I mean baptizing – since you told me that story last week.

But I haven’t seen Jesus hanging around.

Isn’t He supposed to be with us?

I was kind of hoping He’d send some fish along while we’re out in all that water.

Okay, I’ll stop swimming long enough to listen.

But only if the story’s short.

***

Jesus said to the disciples, “You will receive Power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

***

Oh, maybe I’m still waiting for the Holy Spirit.

Then I’ll see some fish.

***

After Jesus said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.

***

Now that’s freaky.

Maybe Jesus is going to send fish raining down.

I am listening.

***

The disciples were looking intently up into the sky as Jesus was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.

***

Hey wait a minute.

I wanted fish, not people.

Those two men better give me loves at least.

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

“Men of Galilee,” the men in white said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky?”

***

Are those men dumb or what?

Oh, maybe they didn’t see Jesus going into the sky.

***

The men continued, “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”

***

Oh, now I get it.

I think.

Jesus is with us, but He’s in heaven, but He’s coming back.

Oh, umm.

Where’s Jesus now?

This is too much for me to think about.

Where’s the fish?

In the Shadows

Bongo on the trail I finally figured it out.

I’m a genius!

I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before.

You see, my person is always making me wait while she takes pictures of flowers on my trails.

But she likes to take those pictures when the lighting is just right.

So I’ll only take her out on my trails when the lighting is all wrong.

When the sun is almost down and everything is in shadow.

The light’s no good for flower pictures, and this time of year the temperature is much better in the shadows.

So that’s what I’m gonna do.

No more walks in perfect light for my person.

It’s shadows from now on.

I bet her camera won’t even work.

***

Hey person, what do you think you’re doing?

It must be some kind of reflex or something.

My person gets her camera out by pure habit.

Oh no.

Stop person!

Don’t click that camera!

Can’t you see you’re wasting your memory card space?

You might need it to take pictures of me.

What is this?

Either my person has lost it, or she can’t see anything in these shadows.

Grassy plant blooming

That’s not even a flower.

Up to No Good

Bongo in his dog jail on his new bedI was hanging out in my dog jail – actually I was locked in my dog jail –

When Gizmo did what he does best.

Gizmo was up to no good.

.

.

.

.

.

.

He tried to steal my frog.

Gizmo with a toy frog and a toy snake coming after him

But Gizmo didn’t realize I’d sent my snake to get him.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Enough Already

Bongo and a hedgehog cactus in bloomWhat is going on here?

These hedgehog cactus should have been done blooming a long time ago.

They’re torturing me, because my person won’t stop taking pictures of them.

Why don’t they just go away?

I keep thinking they’re gone and then some more of this colorful stuff pops up on my trails.

C’mon person. Haven’t you taken enough pictures of these cacti?

.

.

Hedgehog cactus in bloomThere she goes again.

Hedgehog cactus blossom

And again.

Okay person, that’s enough.

I’m taking you home now.

You’re going to wear out your camera.

Person?

Hey person, what are you doing?

You are so misbehaved.

You’ve got to stop wandering off like that.

Oh no, look at this!

My person is so obsessed with her camera…

Prickly pear blossoms with an ant inside

…that she’s started taking pictures of ants.

Person, wouldn’t it have made more sense to wait until you had that ant in full view before you took the picture of it?

The Sentinel

Bongo in front of the bush with berriesSomebody is trying to take over my trails.

She’s posting herself in a prominent place and making all kinds of noise.

And there’s scurrying in the bushes.

She must be gathering her army around her.

What am I going to do about this?

Spies in the bushes trying to take over my trails.

I wonder what would happen if I plowed into those bushes.

I’m much bigger than that would be trail thief.

I bet I could cause some excitement in those bushes.

But then that army in the bushes might move to my trails and I’d really have problems.

Maybe I should try it anyway.

I bet there’d be feathers flying everywhere.

That might be fun.

Alright you cactus sentinel.

I’m going in after your army!

Who’s Taking Over My Blog?

Bongo on the kitchen floorThis is my blog!

If you try to let someone take over my blog I’m staying right in the middle of this kitchen floor.

Every time you try to eat I’ll be here.

Right in your way.

And I might trip you too, so you drop food on the floor.

Then it’s mine.

Who’s taking over my blog anyway?

It better not be the cats again.

You what?

You just want to tell everyone what my younger person did?

Well, why didn’t you tell me?

Can I tell them?

Woo woo!

Awhile back my younger person went to that college place – wherever that is.

And he wasn’t around here so much anymore.

But now he finished with that college place and he had to go take a bunch of tests from someplace called the FAA.

I think that means Forget About Animals because every time my younger person went to take one of those tests he left me and was gone for a couple days.

But now he’s done with all those FAA tests and he can officially work on airplanes, helicopters, and jets.

Bongo in a Jet

Hey younger person, if you want to work on this plane you’ve got to catch it first.

Don’t Look

Bongo in front of a blooming cholla cactusDon’t look person.

There’s nothing over here.

Just keep walking on the trail.

I’ll catch up with you as soon as I take care of business.

Just don’t look this way.

.

.

.

.

.

Red cholla cactus flowers

Person, you weren’t supposed to look over here.

I didn’t want you to see those cactus flowers.

Now I’m stuck.

She’ll be here taking pictures forever.

.

Red cholla cactus flowers

See. I told you so.

***

Whew! She didn’t take too many pictures this time.

Now we can get on with our walk.

Wait a minute!

What are you doing?

My person is so desperate to take pictures that she’s finding flowers that don’t even exist.

Green cholla cactus flowers

Since when do we have green flowers on my trails?

Sending Out

Bloch-Sermon on the MountI’m not ready to hear another story.

I’m still hanging out on that beach eating up the fish that Jesus cooked.

Just give me a few seconds.

I’ll have it all gulped down.

Oh alright, I’ll listen.

***

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. When they saw Him they worshiped him; but some doubted.

***

I bet if Jesus had cooked up another batch of fish they wouldn’t have doubted.

I am listening.

***

Then Jesus came to them and said, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

***

Didn’t a lot of people have trouble reading back then?

How would they know Jesus wasn’t making everything up?

They did?

They told stories like you tell me?

And I thought I was special.

Yes, I’m listening.

***

Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

***

If they’re going to preach to the dog nations I hope they’ll explain what those big words mean.

Or maybe they don’t have to.

Us dogs never sin.

We just do mischief.

***

Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

***

If Jesus is with me to the end of the age I’ll for sure make disciples and baptize them.

Baptizing is kind of like swimming, isn’t it?

Healing

Bongo next to a healing prickly pear cactusI’ve got some good news to share with you.

You see, a little over a year ago there was some serious mischief on my trails.

A crime actually.

Someone had murdered some of my prickly pear cacti.

If you want to know how terrible this crime was you can click on this link here.

Ever since then I’ve been sad every time I walk by and see them.

But those prickly pear are hardy.

And they’re beginning to show signs of healing.

They must have only been almost murdered.

How do I know?

.

Because dead cacti don’t grow flowers.

Damaged prickly pear cactus with blossoms

It’s like a miracle on my trails.

And things have gotten even better.

The injured prickly pear keep getting more flowers.

Damaged prickly pear with blossoms

But please be careful around these prickly pear.

If you tell them they still look ugly…

they might shed a few flowers.

The Best Day Ever!

Bongo looking at his tennis ball under wooden train tracksToday was the best day ever!

Well, it was almost the best day.

My little buddy came over to visit me.

At first we had kind of a misunderstanding.

He built his tracks right on top of my ball.

How am I supposed to play with my ball if there are train tracks running over it?

.

But I took care of the problem.

Bongo on the train tracks while his buddy looks astonished

After that my little buddy decided he didn’t need to play with those tracks any more.

Because I’m more fun.

Bongo and his buddy playing tug o war

We had a great time playing Tug o war.

Bongo bringing the tug o war toy to his buddy

Especially since I won.

And…

Bongo on top of his buddy

Winner takes all!
