The Worst Mischief Ever!

Bongo with a sad lookMy person has come up with the worst mischief ever!

And it all has to do with that B word.

You know, the one that’s spelled B-U-S-Y.

You see, my person has helped me post my blog almost every day for a long time now.

But she says she needs a break.

So she’s only going to help me post when I have a really good adventure.

I don’t get it. Don’t I have really good adventures every day?

But the worst thing is that I’ll miss all the visits and comments from all the good friends I’ve made.

I’m gonna miss you guys (and girls).

But my person said maybe – just maybe, she might help me post more often to my Facebook page.

So if you haven’t already checked it out, hop on over to https://www.facebook.com/BongoDogBlog and see what’s there. Maybe even “Like” my page.

That would be awesome.

***

But my person did say I could still post all my really good adventures.

And I sure had one today.

Awhile ago this cute girl dog passed me on the trails and came running over to play with me.

Well today, this same cute girl dog left her people and went out of her way to find me and play with me.

Bongo and his new friend

Bongo playing with his new friend

Woo woo! I think she’s gonna kiss me!

Filled with the Spirit

Peter and CorneliusI’m still trying to figure Peter out.

He got famous in Joppa by raising that lady from the dead, so you’d think he’d want to stay there because the people are probably giving him all kinds of treats and things.

But now these other guys showed up and asked Peter to come with him and he’s just going to go.

Leave all those treats behind.

Or maybe they offered Peter even more treats.

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went along.

***

Now I get it.

Peter brought along some of the people who would give him treats.

I am listening.

***

The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.

***

A party?

There’s lots of food at a party.

I’ll listen. I’ll listen.

***

As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence.

***

Oh, I get it now.

Peter is even more famous in Caesarea.

***

But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”

***

Peter, you blew it.

You really should have taken advantage of that.

I would have.

***

Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”

***

Peter, they’re just trying to get your treats from you.

I am too listening.

***

Cornelius answered, “Four days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.

***

Peter, tell them to give you treats.

***

Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.

***

Does that include dogs?

***

You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached – how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

***

That must have been a safer place after Jesus got through with it.

I bet everybody was even nicer to the dogs.

***

We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. The killed him by hanging him on a tree, …

***

I don’t get it.

Jesus made that place safer and they killed him for it?

Alright, I’ll keep listening.

I think I ran out of things to say anyway.

***

…but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen – by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

***

So if I believe in Jesus I’m forgiven for all my mischief?

Woo woo!

***

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

***

I guess those Jewish believers thought they were special, but God showed them.

God thinks everyone is special.

Even us dogs.

***

Then Peter said, “Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

***

I want to be baptized.

It’s kind of like swimming, isn’t it?

And then afterwards, we can celebrate with treats.

Trail Stone Stack Tour

Bongo and a stack of stones in a dry washStacks of stones have been showing up on my trails in all shapes and sizes lately.

So I thought I’d give you a trail stone stack tour.

It might be kind of fun.

Anyway, I call the stack in this first picture a wash stack.

Because the stones are stacked in the dry wash on my trails.

That’s a pretty original name I came up with, don’t you think?

.

***

A more recent kind of stack is what I call the mini stacks.

They come in various types.

Small stone stacks on a rock

Like these mini stacks on a rock.

Bongo near a post with stones stacked on top

Or this one on a post.

Wait. I don’t see a mini stack here.

Where is it?

I think my person’s fooling me about seeing a mini stack here.

***

Now here’s the latest invention in stone stacks.

Bongo and a stone stack that blends into the background

Well, I think it’s the latest invention.

I call it the camouflaged stack.

Hmmm.

I wonder how long this has been here.

What’s an Eclipse?

Bongo looking toward the sunThere was a partial solar eclipse around here.

My person says that eclipse showed up at other places too, but I only know what happens around my house.

Actually, I don’t always know what happens around my house.

Like, what is an eclipse anyway?

My person says it’s when the moon goes in front of the sun and it looks like somebody took a bite out of the sun.

I wonder if it tasted good.

.

.

.

My people put on special glasses so they could look at the eclipse.

But they didn’t give any of those glasses to me.

I don’t know why they wanted to look at a silly old eclipse anyway.

If somebody’s eating the sun and they’re not sharing any with me then they can have their eclipse and eat it too.

Bongo yawning

This is what I think of that eclipse.

I’ll find somebody else to give me treats.

Bongo with some grasses near his front pawsHey, wait a minute.

What are these strange things at my feet?

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Curly dry grass

These things are curly.

How strange can you get?

Bunches of curly things

What?

A curly forest?

Now that’s strange.

Too Many Houses

Bongo sniffing the ground under a juniper treeHmmm.

There’s something different about this tree.

Person, what do you mean, I’m looking in the wrong spot?

There’s what?

Oh.

.

.

Bird house in a juniper tree

There’s something different in this tree.

What is that thing?

It doesn’t look natural.

It’s a what?

Bird house on tree trunk

A bird house?

Well that doesn’t make sense.

First they kick their nest house out of the tree in my yard.

And then they go putting up a fancier house in a tree on my trails.

And it doesn’t look like anybody’s even living in that house.

Some lucky bird!

I wish I had more houses than I knew what to do with.

But all I have is a …

Bongo leaving his dog jail

…dog jail.

Warning Bark

Bongo in the darkFinally, my person figured it out.

I’ve been trying to warn her the last few nights and all she does is tell me to come back in the house.

She doesn’t even know what my bark is for.

It’s not like I bark up a storm.

Just one warning bark when they walk by.

And then my person tells me to come in.

.

***

You see, we’ve been having some visitors the last few nights.

And when I’m hanging outside in the evenings I hear them walking by on the other side of my fence.

But my person had no idea what my warnings were – until she went out to her car one night and found them there.

Right in my front yard.

And the next day she found something else.

They’d made their own path right on the side of our house.

This is my yard.

I’m the only one allowed to make trails in it.

I’d better send my person on inspection treks around the house more often.

***

Finally, my person heeded my warning.

She checked the front yard and found them out there again.

Javelinas in the yard

Hey person, you managed to get the light on me in the dark.

What was your problem with those javelinas?

Rumbly Mischief

Thunder Clouds over SedonaSomebody is a mischief maker and I’m not quite sure who.

But I think it’s my person.

You see, when I woke up this morning the sky was full of clouds and it was rumbling thunder.

And it kept thundering until my person finally left the house.

And forced me to stay in dog jail, mind you, while that thunder was rumbling on.

.

.

But this is October and we’re not supposed to get thunder in October.

Bongo on the trail with red rocks and blue sky in the background

This is what an October day where I live is supposed to look like.

And most of the time October days do look like this.

And you know what?

After my person left, the sky cleared up.

When she came back home the sky was all blue.

And then she left again.

And this time when she came home the sky had changed once more.

Cloudy Sky and Red Rocks

Now it looked like this.

And the thunder had come back.

I’m sure my person had something to do with it.

But she’s paying, because there’s no way I’m taking her for a walk today.

Hungry Vision

The vision painted by Domenico FettiI’ve been waiting all week to see if Peter is going to leave all his treats or not.

Those people were about to come and try to take Peter away from where he became famous for raising a lady from the dead.

So what is it?

Will Peter stay, or will he go?

I am listening.

***

About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.

***

If he’s up on the roof those people won’t find him and he can stay.

Yes I am listening.

***

Peter became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared he fell into a trance.

***

Peter, I’m on my way!

You are going to share some of that meal with me aren’t you?

***

Peter saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

***

I’ve never had food that fresh before.

I’m on my way Peter!

Okay, I’ll listen. This is getting good.

***

“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

***

I’ll eat it.

***

The voice spoke to Peter a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

***

Get that Peter?

That stuff’s good to eat.

I’m almost there!

***

This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.

***

Pretend you’re not there Peter.

They’re going to take away all your treats.

***

While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.

***

I hope the Spirit is going to give Peter some treats then.

***

Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you are looking for. Why have you come?”

***

I bet they just want to steal Peter’s treats.

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say. Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

***

Peter, do you still have room for a dog?

Downed Nest

Bird nest on the groundSome bird dropped her nest right in my yard and flew the coop.

Or maybe the baby birds were ready to go and they tossed out their nest when they left.

So which is it?

I’ve got to go find them and ask them.

.

.

.

But I’ve got a dilemma.

Bongo looking away and a nest on the ground

Did they fly that way?

Bongo looking the opposite direction

Or did they fly over there?
