About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

In the Middle of Things

Bongo Sleeping on the Living Room FloorAll summer during the thunderstorms I had one sleeping spot. In the hallway, the farthest place in the house from the storms.

But now that the thunder is over I’m changing my sleeping patterns. No more blocking the hallway for me. I’m tired of getting stumbled on and tripped over.

I’m checking out the living room. Where all the action is. That way if something really good happens at my house I won’t miss it.

Or maybe I’ll try out the nice, cool tiles on the kitchen floor. There’s a lot of food action going on there and I’ll be right in the middle of it.

I know one thing for sure though. When I’m sleeping in the hallway my person gets away with all kinds of things, but now I can catch her at everything. She can’t even get her camera out without me knowing about it.

There’s no way my person is going to get a picture of me asleep.

Hold up Your Hands

English: Victory O Lord, by John Everett Milla...

English: Victory O Lord, by John Everett Millais, the Amalekites defeated, as in Exodus 17:8-16, 1871 oil on canvas, at the Manchester City Galleries (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Hey person, Moses and those Israelites really had it made now, didn’t they? God had helped them escape from Egypt, He gave them manna to eat, and now He’d given them water from out of that rock. I bet they were ready to lie down and take a nice, long nap.

What? Oh, no! My person says that while the Israelites were still camped at Rephidim, drinking all their water, the Amalekites came and attacked them.

Those Amalekites need to find their own rock to get water out of.

I’ll listen person, as soon as I chase those Amalekites away.

What do you mean, it’s not my job to chase them? It’s always a dog’s job to chase the bad guys.

Okay, I’ll listen.

Moses told Joshua to choose some men and go out and fight the Amalekites.

I bet Joshua needs some help. I could go out and help him.

I am listening, person, but I can’t help myself. I just want to grab those Amalekites by their robes and yank on them.

Okay, I’ll try to calm down.

Moses said he was going to stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in his hand. Moses’ brother Aaron and Hur went with him.

As long as Moses held his hands up, Joshua and the Israelites were winning. But when he put them down again the Amalekites started winning. So Aaron and Hur got a stone and put it under Moses for him to sit on …

Excuse me, person. I don’t think a stone would be very comfortable to sit on. Didn’t they have one of those cushy chairs they could get for him?

I am listening.

Aaron and Hur stood on either side of Moses and held his hands up until sundown. And because Moses’ hands were up Joshua beat the Amalekites.

Moses built an altar called The Lord is my Banner because he said his hands were lifted up to the throne of the Lord.

Hey person, the next time Scratchy tries to eat my food, could you lift up your hands?

She’s Home!

Bongo Eating WeedsBoy was my person gone a long time today, so when she finally got home I was really excited to see her. I was excited because I would finally get my dinner.

She must have realized she’d forgotten to leave my bag of food out for me because the first thing she did was fill my dish. Oh, and Scratchy’s too. I’m not sure why he needed to be fed. He never even eats everything my person gives him and I have to finish it off for him.

I didn’t bother to tell my person that a friend had stopped by and let me out awhile ago. I let her think that I seriously needed to go out. She thinks I was overly excited when she said the word “outside” and I ran into a table. I did that on purpose. I just wanted her to think it was an accident.

After I came back in I needed to go out again. But I got distracted eating all the weeds – I mean, I was doing my person a favor by helping her get rid of the weeds in the yard – and my person made me go back in the house. Which meant I needed to go out again – to take care of business. And get rid of more weeds. I had to keep on my person before I could convince her that I really did need to go out.

I think I’d better stop helping my person with the yard work though. She might think I like yard work better than taking her on walks. And the weeds on my trails taste better.

Wandering Puddle

Bongo in a dry puddleSince the thunder left I’ve really been enjoying taking my person for walks on my trails. Every day has been sunny, and the air feels just right. But there’s one problem.

My puddle left. Again.

I don’t know where it goes, but it’s always going somewhere. This time I think I’m going to look around and see if I can find it.

***

Look what I found! I’m in luck! My puddle – it moved over here.

Bongo at a new puddle

There’s something wrong with it though. I ran out of puddle too soon. This can’t be all of it.

Bongo at the end of the puddle

This is really strange. How can half my puddle disappear and the other half stay. I don’t know what I’m going to do now. I think I’m dealing with a split personality puddle. It’s got to be very confused. How would I feel if half of me went missing?

I don’t think my puddle should be here at all. Maybe if I make it leave it will find its other half and go back where it belongs.

Bongo splashing in the puddle

Take that, you wayward puddle. Time to go home.

Do Not Cross

Bongo behind a strip of Caution TapeWhat’s this thing here?

It’s what?

It’s “Do not Cross” tape?

I never heard of that. You’re making it up, person. Since when am I not supposed to go somewhere on my trails?

I know we never go here, but today this is where I want to go.

I know that “Do not Cross” tape is in the way. But look, it’s not very long. I can take you around it. Come on, let’s go.

Who hangs out up there?

The coyotes? Well of course they do. I’m tracking them now. That’s why I want to go this way. Come on, let’s go!

Person, you are taking this “Do not Cross” tape thing far too seriously. If you don’t want to go then let go of my leash so I can go. I’m sure you can find your way home on your own.

Okay fine. I’ll go back with you. I certainly wouldn’t want you to get lost. Without you I’d have no way of getting my food out of the garage.

Tomorrow I’m hanging that “Do not Cross” tape somewhere else.

Evening Glory

Morning GloryWe have two main wildflower seasons here. In late spring and early summer the cactus bloom, and then in late summer and early fall other things bloom. So right now I have to drag my person along when she tries to stop and take pictures of all those flowers.

I got lucky with this morning glory plant. It’s called morning glory for a reason. Morning is when the flowers are open, and then they close up for the day. So whenever we walked by the plant the flowers were closed up and my person had nothing to take pictures of.

But something strange happened. We walked by and there was a flower in full bloom. I think somebody needs to straighten this plant out. Its name is not evening glory. Come on flower – close up quick. You’re not playing by the rules.

That flower didn’t listen any better than my person does sometimes. It stayed open showing of its full glory – its full evening glory.

What else can I do? Guess I’ll chew on a few weeds until my person puts her camera away. How’s that for glory?

Traveling on a Cell Phone

Picture of Bongo from a cell phoneYou see that picture there? That was taken when I was still a young pup – not too long after my people got me.

You see, shortly after my people got me my person got a new cell phone, and that’s where this picture came from.

But my person doesn’t have that cell phone any more. She got another new one, and she gave the old one away.

My person has a friend who was having cell phone issues. I’m not sure what that is, but it sounds like a dangerous disease to me.

Maybe my person used to be a doctor or something, because when she gave her old cell phone to her friend the cell phone issues went away.

And my picture went with it.

But my friend thought it was really cool to have my picture on her cell phone, so she left it there. And now she lives in a different state, so she still has a reminder of me.

Maybe I could get rich posing for pictures on people’s cell phones. Even if I only charged a few loves per picture, I bet I would get more loves than I would know what to do with.

A New Kind of Mischief

Bongo on the trail looking at blue skyCheck me out! Do I look different? Suave and debonair in my black and white?

All summer – at least since the beginning of July – I’ve had to wear my anxiety vest almost all the time. This has been the worst thunder season I can remember. My person has been around a lot longer than me and she says it’s the worst she can remember.

But it’s over! Yippee! Check out that blue sky. Not a cloud in it. And this picture was taken in the afternoon when most of the clouds build up.

I just have one problem now. Thunder season is when I get into the most mischief – at least when I’m left alone in the house.

I’m going to have to come up with a new kind of mischief. And I’ve got the perfect thing.

Since we’ve had so much rain there are lots of green juicy weeds on my trails.

Bongo Eating Weeds

Bongo Eating Weeds

My person doesn’t like waiting around while I stop to chomp. Actually, she doesn’t even like me to eat those weeds. She says I have plenty of food at home.

I don’t agree. The more food I can find the better.

So when my person tries to get me back on the trails, I’m digging in.

Rock Water

c. 1540-1545

c. 1540-1545 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Hey person, now that God is giving the Israelites manna to eat I bet they don’t have anything to whine about anymore.

They what?

Oh, no. I’m getting thirsty just thinking about it.

After the Lord gave the Israelites manna He told them to move to a place called Rephidim, but there was no water there for the people to drink.

God made It rain down manna. Couldn’t he make normal rain so they’d have water?

Okay, I’ll listen.

The people got really mad at Moses and told him to give them water. They accused Moses of bringing them out of Egypt so they could all die of thirst.

Hey person, didn’t Moses have a plan when he took those people out of Egypt?

Yes, I’ll listen.

So Moses cried out to the Lord and asked Him what to do because the people were ready to stone him.

Moses might get kind of flat if they did that to him.

I am listening.

The Lord told Moses to go before the people with some of the elders and take the rod that he had used to strike the river.

Is Moses going to beat the people off with the rod?

Well, if they all came after him he needed to do something.

The Lord told Moses that He would stand before him on the rock in Horeb, and that Moses should strike it.

Moses struck the rock with the elders watching, and water came out of it for the people to drink.

Hey person, we have lots of rocks on my trails. Maybe you should get one of those rods. Then you wouldn’t have to carry any water along with us.

Finish it Faster

Scratchy near Bongo's foodHey everybody, this is Scratchy here – the cat that has to put up with Bongo.

Bongo is being a rebel this morning. He does this sometimes. He goes outside and he won’t come back in the house. Until my person puts food in his dish, that is. Then he comes scratching on the door and as soon as my person lets him in he runs straight for that food dish.

Well, I decided to get him today. He thinks he’s going to find food in his dish because he heard it going into his bowl. But there’s not going to be any.

Because I’m eating it all before he gets to it.

Scratchy eating Bongo's food

Oops, I don’t think I’m eating fast enough.

***

Scratchy! What are you doing? Get out of my food this instant!

I can’t believe this. It’s a conspiracy! My person actually let Scratchy eat my food. They’re ganging up on me.

That’s right Scratchy. You can take your place at the water dish.

Scratchy drinking and Bongo eating

If anyone is looking for a cat I’m taking offers. And I’ll even pay for the shipping.
