You’re doing it all wrong.
You’re pointing your camera the wrong way.
You’re supposed to be pointing it at me.
.
.
.
.
What are you doing anyway?
There’s nothing interesting over there.
I’m not sure why, but I have this sudden urge to howl.
Boy did I make a big mistake today.
A really big one.
Here’s what happened.
I took my person for a walk and we got to the place where we usually turn around and head back.
It was a really nice day and I wasn’t ready to head back yet.
So I kept on going.
Up the dry wash.
Usually my person won’t let me go further, but today she did.
And that was the biggest mistake of all.
***
Because you know what my person did then?
She found flowers.
And not just a few flowers.
She found red ones, and purple ones, and yellow ones.
Can we go now, person?
This is getting really boring.
No, no person.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
You’re looking in the totally wrong direction.
Don’t look over here.
It’s over there I want you to look.
***
I knew it!
I just can’t keep my person and her camera away from flowers.
Does anybody want a well used camera?
I’m giving one away.
As soon as I can wrestle it away from my person.
It seems like every time I take my person for walks she gets her camera out.
She’s always making me wait while she takes pictures of flowers and stuff.
It’s frustrating.
I’ve got places to go and things to sniff – and all my person wants to do is stay in one spot and take pictures.
But when it comes to my yard, I’m not allowed to hang out there.
I get to go do my business and then I have to come right back in.
I don’t know what my person’s problem is.
Just because I jumped the fence once or twice.
I only do it when I’m bored.
***
But I finally figured it out.
You see, a thistle popped up in my yard and there aren’t any thistles on my trails.
So when my person was out pulling weeds I hid it from her.
And it worked.
Because that thistle bloomed and just like I knew she would…
My person headed out with her camera.
And I got to hang out in the yard.
These hedgehog cactus should have been done blooming a long time ago.
They’re torturing me, because my person won’t stop taking pictures of them.
Why don’t they just go away?
I keep thinking they’re gone and then some more of this colorful stuff pops up on my trails.
C’mon person. Haven’t you taken enough pictures of these cacti?
.
.
And again.
Okay person, that’s enough.
I’m taking you home now.
You’re going to wear out your camera.
Person?
Hey person, what are you doing?
You are so misbehaved.
You’ve got to stop wandering off like that.
Oh no, look at this!
My person is so obsessed with her camera…
…that she’s started taking pictures of ants.
Person, wouldn’t it have made more sense to wait until you had that ant in full view before you took the picture of it?
I’m not sure who was up to the most mischief today.
My person, or the visitor.
You see, my person saw a visitor in our driveway today and you know what she did?
She came in, got her camera, and locked me in jail!
You hear that?
She locked me in dog jail.
I wanted to visit the visitor, and she locked me in dog jail.
.
And then she went out to take pictures.
And what was that visitor doing in my yard?
And what was it doing hanging around waiting for my person to get her camera?
We’ve seen a couple snakes on my trails lately.
And my person used some excuse about them hiding before she could get her camera out, and she wouldn’t take any pictures.
But this snake – in my yard – hangs around waiting until my person gets back outside with her camera.
Without me.
I think my person and that snake had this all planned out.
Just wait till I get my paws on my person’s camera.
We’ll see who visits my yard then.
I’ve been worried about the flowers that are starting to show up on my trails, because they make my person spend too much time with her camera.
But now I’ve discovered I’ve got something else to worry about.
Butterflies.
At least the flowers stay in one spot.
But those butterflies are moving all over the place.
So my person starts chasing them with her camera.
And since she’s stuck to my leash I end up having to follow wherever she goes.
What kind of a dog wants to follow butterflies?
Oh no, here we go.
Here comes another one.
I was hoping my person would just go for the flowers…
What am I saying?
Now I’m wanting my person to take flower pictures?
It’s not as bad as chasing butterflies – but maybe I should just hide her camera.
Then I wouldn’t have to worry about those pictures at all.
***
Oh.
She wouldn’t be able to take any pictures of me then.
That wouldn’t be good.
I’d be stuck with all the old pictures of me and I’d never be able to get any new ones.
Oh well.
I guess I’m going to have to put up with it.
If you can’t beat ‘em – join ‘em.
Some flowers popped out on my trails today.
I tried to walk by them really fast and hope my person wouldn’t notice – but she did.
And of course she had to stop and take pictures.
She looks for any excuse to get out her camera.
So while I hung around waiting for my person to finish taking pictures I realized something.
Today is the first day of spring.
So these flowers came out to celebrate.
And tomorrow won’t be a special day anymore.
So maybe the rest of the flowers on my trails will realize they missed their chance and they won’t show up this year.
I mean, what’s a flower if it misses the first day of spring?
And if I keep my person occupied enough with walking, she won’t stop and take pictures of anything else either.
Come on, person. We’ve got places to go – trails to explore.
A trail is no place for a camera, and tomorrow I’m sure there won’t be any flowers showing up.
So happy first day of Spring!
The only day with flowers to take pictures of.
***
What, person?
What do you mean, these are the first of bunches of flowers on my trails?
You’re going to make me wait while you take pictures of them all spring and summer?
That’s terrible!
What am I going to do?
I think I’m going to have to find some new trails for awhile.
This is January, right?
Isn’t January the middle of winter?
Well, it kind of doesn’t seem like that here – but the flowers should pay attention.
They’re not supposed to show up for months.
But my person found one today.
The first flower of spring – but it’s still winter.
Which means it’s already started.
.
Those drudgingly long waits while my person gets her camera out and takes picture after picture of flowers.
And it looks like it’s going to be a long season this year.
I don’t know why she does it.
I mean, aren’t these the same kinds of flowers that she took pictures of last year.
And the year before.
I just don’t get people sometimes.
They don’t make any sense.
Okay, I’m done with my rant until the next time my person gets her camera out.
Wait! What?
More flowers already?
I forgot about those Manzanita bushes.
They always start blooming really early.
And then when they stop blooming they have berries.
And my person takes pictures of those.
I think I’d better do something about this.
Maybe I should eat them like I did to those curly weeds the other day.
Oh. Ummm.
This is going to be tricky.
There are a lot of Manzanita bushes on my trails.
Does anybody want to come help?
