Squeaky Snake

Bongo and SnakeSqueaky toys are my favorite. I love to bite down on them and listen to the noise they make. One of my best squeaky toys is a long snake. It has squeaks at both ends so I can squeak the head and I can squeak the tail. What’s even better is that it has replaceable squeakers – so it never runs out of squeak. I just have to remind my person to put new squeakers in it sometimes.

When I first got the snake I wasn’t sure what to do with it, so I took it outside. I like taking my toys outside. My person caught on to this so now she makes me drop my toys before she’ll open the door. Anyway, she hadn’t yet got smart about this when I got the snake and I was able to get it outside. I had a lot of fun with it out there.

I wouldn’t tell my person what I did with it, and since it was new she didn’t want me to lose it. She went out in the yard looking for it. She had to look real hard for it, but I guess I didn’t bury it deep enough. She found it by the tail that was still sticking out of the ground.

Blame it on the Cat

Neighbor CatOops! I think I’m in trouble again. But it’s not my fault. My person was outside sweeping up juniper berries. I don’t like it when she goes outside without me, but then it got even worse. I saw a strange cat sitting in our driveway. Do you believe it? In our driveway – my driveway! My person saw the cat too.

Then you know what she did? She came in and got her camera to take pictures of that cat. I love it when she takes pictures of me. Something about the click of the camera excites me and I jump and drag my toys around the house. My person has to take extra pictures of me because I’m giving her so many great poses.

But she wanted to take pictures of that cat. That’s not fair and as a matter of fact it’s totally bad. I jumped and barked at the front window. I’m not supposed to be on the couch that’s there, but I didn’t care. Then I jumped up really high and pawed at the blinds coming down. Oops. I broke a slat. But it’s not my fault. I’m blaming it on the cat.

Let’s Play

Bongo and ScratchyScratchy usually keeps his distance from me but sometimes – not very often – he gets close enough that we can play. I’m not sure why, but he doesn’t like to play for very long. Usually he runs away very quickly. Sometimes he even jumps up on top of the kitchen cabinets so I can’t get anywhere near him. I can jump pretty high, and I’ve tried to jump high enough to reach him up there, but I’ve never had any luck.

I’ve never hurt Scratchy – even though he’s scratched me on the nose a few times – so I can’t figure out why he doesn’t want to play with me. After all, I’m one of the most playful dogs I know. I think everyone should want to play with me. I mean, I’m really fun to play with.

I wonder if he thought I was having so much fun jumping that he decided to do it too. He didn’t get it quite right though. I come down right away. Scratchy jumps up, lands on top of the cabinets, and doesn’t come down for a long time. Come on Scratchy. Let’s play!

Bongo Nemesis

I think I was just called a really bad name. My person and I were out on the trail near our house when along comes one of the dogs we see there sometimes with his person. That other dog’s person held his dog so he wouldn’t get too close to me. Then he called me that name. I didn’t even know what it meant and my person had to look it up for me. That person called me a nemesis.

Never mind that it was one of the dogs I tried to get to a couple weeks ago and my person didn’t let go of my leash and she hit her head on the pavement. I already wrote about that. My person made me write about it. But now I’m getting called names. I don’t think I even deserve that name. My person says a nemesis is someone who gets even. I don’t do that – well not very often, that is.

I wonder if I could get that dog to get loose off his leash and run off with me. That way I could get even with his person for calling me a name.

The Rattle that Calls

Bongo's VitaminOnce I’ve gotten my person out of bed in the morning and she’s let me outside and fed me I usually find somewhere cozy to lie down. That is, until I hear certain sounds. First, it’s the sound of a cupboard door opening, and then I hear a rattling sound. I know that it’s time for me to get up and head to the kitchen. My person gets little pills out of bottles. She says they’re vitamins.

I bet you’re wondering why I care enough to go into the kitchen when my person takes her vitamins. After all, what’s in it for me? Well, guess what? When my person finishes taking her vitamins she pulls out a special vitamin just for me. It’s bigger than hers and it smells much better. My person says my vitamins stink, but I don’t think so. I think they smell heavenly and they taste like bacon. I wonder how I could make my person forget that she’s taken her vitamins so she’ll do it all over again.

Click of the Camera

Too CloseSince I started writing this blog my person has been taking lots of pictures of me. It’s really fun. Sometimes she gets down on the floor so she’s at the same level as me, but what I like the best are the sounds the camera makes.

When my person opens the camera case there is a special ripping kind of sound that always gets my attention. My person says that’s the sound of Velcro tearing apart. Whatever it is, if I’m not in the room already I always come running.

The next best sound is the click the camera makes when my person takes a picture. I think that click means go to the camera and climb all over my person. My person laughs when I do this, but then she makes me go back and do the same pose all over again. I don’t get it.

Jumping on the Bed

Maybe she'll get out of bed for my snake

Maybe she'll get out of bed for my snake.

When I want to get attention I jump. My people have a really hard time ignoring me when I’m jumping. When I want to get my person out of bed in the morning I jump right next to her bed. Then I jump again – and I jump three or four more times. Sometimes that doesn’t work and she rolls over and tries to ignore me. Then I jump onto her bed. She usually gets mad at me then and tries to push me off. I jump right back on. Eventually all this jumping gets through to her and she gets up and lets me outside and then feeds me.

After I’ve taken care of business and had my breakfast I feel really good and find a comfy spot and go back to sleep. I don’t know why my person doesn’t do the same. I get worn out from all my jumping, but I guess it doesn’t affect her the same way.

Let’s Have Some Quiet

Gotta be louderMy person has a big machine to pick up all the hair I get on the carpets. She says it’s called a vacuum cleaner. That machine makes so much noise. It sounds like it’s trying to take over the house whenever it is turned on, and I have to do something about it.

So I bark at it. I get right down next to it on the floor and I bark. Most of the time it just keeps on making that noise and I have to bark over it, but sometimes it gets quiet. Sometimes when it gets quiet my person puts me in the bedroom and shuts the door. Pretty nervy of her – shutting me inside the bedroom. Then that vacuum cleaner thing starts right up with its noise, but it’s not quite so loud because I’m locked in the bedroom.

The noise gets far away for awhile, but then my person opens the bedroom door and in comes that vacuum cleaner – noise and all. Time to start barking again.

Finally the vacuum cleaner goes silent and gets put back in its closet. No more noise for awhile. Yay! But there doesn’t seem to be much of my hair on the carpet any more. I think I’ll roll around on it for awhile.

Calmer – or Not

My person got me a new coat. It’s called an Anxiety Wrap. It’s supposed to help me be calmer during thunder. I was kind of worried about this thing because I heard my person tell my younger person that she’d ordered it and the younger person said he hoped it was a straight jacket. I don’t know what a straight jacked is but it doesn’t sound good.

I couldn’t figure out what my person was doing when she put the thing on me. First she put my legs through some holes. Then she took my legs out. Then she put my legs in again. Then she messed with a bunch of stuff and finally it was on me the right way. I have to admit I was very good during all this.

Then my person wanted to take pictures of me in this new coat. Something about the click of the camera just excites me. My person said this coat was supposed to make me calm and relaxed but that camera got me all excited. First I started jumping – then I began dragging one of my toys all around the living room. Then I jumped and grabbed onto my person. It was so much fun.

I guess my person had enough of my over-activity because she put the camera away. Or maybe it was because I made her drop it when I jumped on her. Anyway, without the camera clicking it wasn’t any fun anymore and I did what I usually do. Sleep.

Gotta Run

Bongo is out the doorMy person left me home alone with Scratchy all morning and when she came back she brought a friend with her. I love it when friends come over to the house. I get really excited because now I have a new person to play with me. Sometimes my people get tired of playing with me, but I haven’t had a chance to wear out the new person yet.

Well, my person let me outside for a few minutes and did something on her computer, and then she and her friend did something unthinkable. They started heading out the front door. They’d only been here a few minutes and they were going to leave. I hadn’t even had a chance to give a slobbery ball to my person’s friend so she could throw it for me to catch. I mean, that’s dog abuse isn’t it? Leaving and taking the friend away before we’ve had a chance to play?

Well, I could play this game too. The friend was in front of my person at the door so I knew I had a chance and I took it. I ran for it and made it out the door before anyone could catch me. Off to the yard across the street I ran, and when my person came toward me I headed to the next block. She won’t be able to catch me until I’m good and ready to be caught. No sign of anybody and I’m having a great time. Running down the street and off on another side street.

Hey, here comes a vehicle and it’s stopping right next to me. Ride time. I don’t recognize the vehicle but I hear my person’s voice coming out of it. Guess I’ll just wait here until she lets me in.

Hey, wait a minute. They just drove me home, took me in the house, and left. What kind of justice is that? I want a do over.
