Stack on Stack

Bongo sniffing a stack of rocks on the trailCheck this out.

You see those rocks that are covered with wire?

Well, those are supposed to be there.

They mark the trail for people who don’t know where it is and can’t smell it.

If people were like us dogs they’d smell their way along the trail and they wouldn’t need trail markers at all.

But apparently, instead of not needing any markers, someone needed extra markers – because they stacked extra rocks on top of the ones that are supposed to be there.

And then to make sure nobody missed them, they shone a light right on them.

I’ve got to figure out how they did that light thing.

So while I was still deep into my investigation…

Bongo looking cool with his Detective Dog hat on

…I came back the next day and the mystery had deepened.

I mean heightened.

Bongo sniffing a taller stack of rocks on the trail

There were more rocks on the stack.

And the light was still there.

***

I’ve got to figure out that light thing.

Maybe I can get it to shine on me.

I’d love to be in the spotlight.

Photobombing the Flowers

Purple flowerIn the spring we get lots of flowers and then most of them disappear for the summer.

And this time of year more flowers show up.

Lots of yellow flowers and a few purple ones too.

Anyone who’s known me for awhile knows how frustrated I get when my person starts taking pictures of flowers.

Well, she did it again.

.

.

.

.

She went after those purple flowers.

Purple flowers

So I decided it was about time I do something about it.

What if I…

…photobomb her flower pics.

So I started getting in the way every time my person got her camera out.

Until I realized I didn’t need to do that anymore.

Because…

…an ant had beaten me to it.

A Good Day Gets Better

Bongo on the trailI headed out on my trails, enjoying my afternoon walk, and thinking that it can’t get better than this.

Well, maybe if my person had brought some treats along it would have been better.

But it was pretty good.

And suddenly it did get better.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Because not one, but two of my girlfriends came running up to me.

Bongo heading toward two brown dogs

I hadn’t seen them in awhile so it was a great reunion.

And for once I was happy that I hadn’t had any treats.

Bongo sniffing another dog

Because treats might have affected my senses.

There’s nothing better than Eau de Dog.

Sleeping Spots

Bongo curled up on the bathroom tileIn the summer when it’s hot one of my favorite places to sleep is in the bathroom.

On the nice, cool tile.

.

While the cats sleep on the futon.

Scratchy and Gizmo next to each other on the futon

Plotting against me, I’m sure.

***

But something went wrong.

I’m not sure what happened.

Maybe there was a cat fight or something.

Bongo and Gizmo in the bathroom

Gizmo, could you at least give me my mat back?

Cat Containers

Bongo caught lying in his kennelOkay, I’ve got to tell you what’s been going on at my house while I’ve been absent from my blog.

There seems to be a great jealousy of my dog jail kennel from the cats.

I guess they wish they had one as nice as mine.

But I’m guarding it and I might need to put a sign up that says “No Cats Allowed!”

So the cats have had to settle for second best.

.

.

Scratchy had to go to the vet the other day so his cat jail was sitting out.

Scratchy sitting on top of cat cage

And he’s claiming it – or guarding it – or something.

Who would want your silly old cat cage anyway Scratchy?

It’s too little to be any good.

***

Now Gizmo, not to be left out, had to get creative.

He made his own little cubby.

Not as good as mine…

Gizmo in a box that he's torn to corner out of

But I have to admit that Gizmo is innovative.

Or is that in na box?

The Worst Week Ever!

Bongo curled up in his kennelWhat a horrible week!

First my person got sick and wouldn’t take me for a walk.

Then it started thundering and I couldn’t go for a walk.

But you’re not going to believe what happened now.

Some bug bit my person in the foot and it’s all swollen up and she can’t take me for a walk again.

So now my person says that since I’m not having any adventures I might not have anything to post for a few days.

I guess you’ll see a poor, sad, out of shape dog in a few days.

In the meantime, I’m curling up for a nap.

Thunder in the Jail

What a terrible, horrible day it was!

Bongo in his dog jail on his new bed

My people locked me in dog jail and left.

It was only me and the cats in the house.

And then it happened.

I’m stuck in dog jail with thunder all around.

It was awful!

My person says when she was in the next town the thunder cracked right over her head and she had to drive next to a river that filled up the other lane of the road she was on.

All I can say is  –

She hasn’t seen anything.

She has no idea what it’s like when thunder tries to sneak in your dog jail.

Mischief on Me

Bongo looking at the sunset from his trailBelieve me, there has been some mischief around here.

And it wasn’t me.

It wasn’t even the cats.

It started with my person.

She pulled the sick thing – said she wasn’t up to taking me for a walk.

And I missed walks on two sunny, blue-sky days.

And then when she finally felt like she was up to taking me for a walk – it thundered.

And anybody who knows me knows that I don’t like thunder.

So here I am.

Three days of no walks.

What?

The thunder’s stopped?

We’re going for a walk?

.

Bye guys. I’m outta here!

Bright orange clouds in the sunset

Okay, I’m back.

That was a short walk.

And I think my person just wanted to take pictures of the sunset.

Orange clouds at sunset

She says she was doing it so I wouldn’t notice the other cloud.

What other cloud?

Thunder cloud in the sunset

What? Wait!

That’s no cloud.

That’s a thunderstorm!

I’m outta here!

On the Desert Road

Ethiopian eunuch and PhilipI’ve been praying all week for fish and treats and I still haven’t gotten any.

Well, maybe one or two treats.

But I want constant treats all day – you know, like falling out of the sky or something.

Or maybe dropping from the kitchen ceiling.

That would be even better.

Are there any treats in this story?

Not even fish?

There’s an angel?

Okay, I guess I’ll listen.

***

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road – the desert road – that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.

***

I guess if you’re on a desert road there’s one thing better than treats.

Water.

***

So Philip started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians.

***

I bet that Ethiopian had plenty of treats.

I think I’ll follow him for awhile.

I am too listening.

***

This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

***

I guess the Spirit wanted Philip to get some treats.

I’m right behind you Philip!

***

Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

“How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

***

If that was written in dog language I could explain it to him.

Woof!

I truly am listening.

***

The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture:

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,

and as a lamb before the shearer is silent,

so he did not open his mouth.

In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.

Who can speak of his descendants”

For his life was taken from the earth.”

***

That’s a really sad story.

***

The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

***

Oh yeah, that one’s a sad story with a happy ending.

***

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

***

How come I don’t get to be baptized.

It’s kind of like swimming and that sounds like fun.

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

***

Woah! I wonder what that eunuch was thinking about Philip now.

I would have been freaked if he disappeared on me.

***

Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

***

Wouldn’t that be cool to pop in and out like that?

I could pop in to the treat store, and where there were piles of fish.

And even to a swimming hole when I felt like swimming.

I wonder how many treats I would have to pay to be able to do that.

What about last week’s story?

Oh yeah, you can’t buy the Holy Spirit.

Okay, I’m praying.

I’m praying.

Safe Walk?

Bongo looking at the trailI decided to take my person for a walk a little earlier than usual today.

We had the trails to ourselves – except for the lizards and birds, that is – because nobody uses my trails in the middle of the day in the summer.

The clouds were covering the sun and it was not quite as hot as usual.

But that’s what I was watching.

.

.

.

.

The clouds.

Clouds

Pretty harmless so far.

I think we can keep going.

Cloud buildups with the sun on top

The sun’s still around.

Let’s walk further.

Cloud buildups behind Thunder Mountain

We’d better hurry.

That cloud’s beginning to look like something.

I’m not sure what, but it’s something.

Dark cloud buildups

Ummmmm…

Dark cloud buildups

Alright, I’m outta’ here.

That’s enough walking for today.
