Yay for Home!

Two really exciting things happened today. My friend Rumpy posted an interview with me on his blog. You can read it here, and my person finally did it. She finally came and picked me up from the dog hotel. It seemed like I was there forever. I made some new friends but I’m really glad to be home. I think I’m going to sleep for three days. I’m so tired I can’t even write my blog and I certainly don’t want Scratchy getting on it. I heard rumors that he was on it while I was in the dog hotel. I’d better not ever catch him.

While I was in the dog hotel my person visited some of my cousins that I will never get to meet. Since I’m too tired to write I thought I’d share some of their pictures with you instead.

Hanging with Sheep

My person said she wanted to tell me about a person in the Bible named David and she thought I’d probably like him. When I asked her why she said that he started out as a shepherd and he probably had shepherd dogs to help him with the sheep. I like this guy already.

My person told me that David grew up in the town of Bethlehem and that even though he lived about a thousand years before, he had a lot to do with another person who started out in Bethlehem around a lot of animals. I asked my person who and she said that’s another story and we’ll get to it soon.

That’s okay, I want to hear about David and his shepherd dogs.

Well, my person said one day when David was out with his sheep a prophet named Samuel came to his father’s house. Samuel had been told by God to go to David’s father Jesse’s house and anoint one of Jesse’s sons as king. David had seven older brothers and Samuel thought that some of them looked like likely candidates to be king, but God told Samuel it didn’t matter what people looked like. He was more interested in their heart.

I’m sure David had a good heart because he was good to animals. Anyway, my person said that Samuel must have been perplexed (what kind of a word is that?) because God told him that He had not chosen any of the sons that were there. Samuel asked Jesse if he had any more sons and Jesse told him his youngest was out tending the sheep.

They called for David and when he came God told Samuel he was the one. David not only had a good heart, he was handsome too.

My person said when Samuel anointed David king there was already another king named Saul, so David didn’t get to be king right away. She said David had lots of adventures because of Saul but for now he got to go back and be with the sheep. How cool is that? A king that likes hanging out with his sheep.

Under the Futon

I don’t get to go in the garage very often. That’s where my food is kept. Every once in awhile my person goes in there and lets me come in too. There are usually nuggets of food on the floor that one of my people dropped when they were getting food out for me so going in the garage is always a treat.

Well the other day Scratchy went in the garage. Hey! Any food in there is mine Scratchy. Don’t you dare eat it.

I was really upset with Scratchy for going in the garage. I was sure he’d eaten all my food, so when he came back in the house I chased him under the futon.

Scratchy hunkered down under there and the futon is high enough that I could get my head in there and get at Scratchy. It was kind of fun.

Ouch! Scratchy, when we’re playing like this you’re not supposed to use your claws.

Missing Bongo???

This is Scratchy here again. Still hanging out in the house by myself. I’ve been wondering what to do so I decided to try a balancing act. I thought I’d see what my younger person has on the top of his bookshelf and the top of the door is the way to get there.

It was a little tricky getting up here and now I’ve got to figure out the best way to get down.

Okay, I admit it. I’m really bored and I had to make up something to tell you. After all, Bongo’s not around to know I’m on his blog so I’ve got to write something.

That picture of me is real, my person didn’t Photoshop it or anything, but she took it a long time ago. I’m not as spry as I used to be and besides, the furniture’s been rearranged and there’s no bookshelf near the door anymore.

I can’t believe I’m saying this. I’m actually missing Bongo.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Dog Hotel

Happy Thanksgiving! I guess my person is having lots of fun and eating good food and here I am sitting at the dog hotel. At least I have a lot of other dogs for company.

I’ve had a lot of time to think while I’m here and I thought maybe I’d tell you why my person takes me to the dog hotel when she leaves. I mean, it was one little incident and you’d think she’d get over it by now.

A dog named Lucky used to come over and visit us when his people went out of town. Lucky and I got along fine and my person would take us on walks together. So far, so good.

Well, one day my person decided to leave and she took me over to Lucky’s house. At my house my person has my tricks all figured out and she knows how to keep me from doing some really bad stuff, but here I was in another house. Time for an adventure. Let’s see what I can get into.

Lucky’s person thought she had the door to the garage closed and it was closed good enough to keep most dogs out – but not me. And that’s where she kept the dog food. Did I say kept? Yeah, that’s what I meant because by the time I got through with it there wasn’t much left. And then I couldn’t help myself. There was too much to hold until someone would let me out. Sorry.

I think Lucky’s person really had enough when I ran out the door and she had trouble catching me. Once I’m free I don’t like to get caught right away.

I only got to go to Lucky’s house once after that and my person came too. Lucky and I were in the backyard and our people were somewhere else so I jumped the fence to go find my person. She took me home and I’ve never been back since. So here I am at the dog hotel. Happy Thanksgiving.

Loneliness

This is Scratchy here. Bongo’s not around so I guess I’ll take over his blog. It’s really quiet here. Everybody left me. No Bongo, no people – just me and the frog.

I wish my person had forgotten and left the bathroom door open. She keeps the frog in there so I can’t get it. That would be one tasty morsel. But no – she had to shut that door and all she left me is a big bowl of cat food.

I kind of miss everybody. Even Bongo. I pretend I don’t like him, but sometimes he’s kind of nice to have around to keep me company. Oops. Did I say that?

Never mind. I really miss my people. I miss the head rubs and being able to bug them for food at dinner time – and when they come home after Bongo’s stolen my food.

Well Bongo can’t steal my food now. He’s not here for a few days. Guess I’ll go make a dent in my great big bowl of cat food and then stretch out for a nap.

Dog Hotel

Oh man, I can’t believe it. My person is leaving today. Something about Thanksgiving. I think that’s the holiday where I’m supposed to get turkey, but my person is going away and she’s not taking me. Oh, she’s taking me somewhere alright. She’s taking me to the dog hotel. She said something about wanting to spend Thanksgiving with family. Well, aren’t I her family?

My person said she’s going on an airplane because it would take too long to drive and she doesn’t think I would like the airplane. I don’t like the dog hotel either. I’ll go on the airplane – if it means I get turkey on Thanksgiving.

But wait a minute. Maybe the dog hotel has turkey on Thanksgiving. After all, they do give us room service. Maybe that dog hotel isn’t so bad after all.

Move Off

I don’t believe it. I headed to my (I mean my person’s – sorry) computer to write my blog and I found Scratchy sitting on it. And Scratchy wasn’t about to get off. The computer is a laptop and it was closed up, so there was no way I could use it with Scratchy there. I couldn’t even push him to the side. In other words, he had to move.

It would be one thing if he tried to steal my blog again. I could at least get on there when he finished and comment on what he said. But no. He didn’t even want to write. He just wanted to keep me from writing.

Well, finally I’d had enough and I jumped up at him. I don’t hurt him. I don’t even get close to him, but it usually gets him to move. My person doesn’t like it when I do that though so I got yelled at. At least Scratchy moved so I could get on the computer. I wish my person would think before she yelled at me though. How would she like it if Scratchy kept her from writing her blog?

To the Dogs

My person told me that not all the people in the Bible were good. I didn’t believe her so she started telling me a story about an evil queen named Jezebel. Before I sat down ready to listen I asked her if there were any animals in the story. She said there were – dogs actually – but she said I probably didn’t want to hear about it. She said it was very sad.

I said I’d listen and decide for myself so my person started telling me the story. She said Jezebel was married to King Ahab, the king of Israel, and they were both very bad. Jezebel worshiped Baal instead of the one true God and she got King Ahab to worship Baal too.

I wasn’t sure if worshipping Baal was important, but then my person said Jezebel killed all the prophets of God that she could find. That was pretty bad.

Well one day King Ahab became upset because he wanted to buy a vineyard and the man who owned it wouldn’t sell it to him. Jezebel knew how to take care of that. She had that vineyard owner killed and then told King Ahab to go get the vineyard – it belonged to him now.

I guess it was sad about that vineyard owner, but I started getting really angry at that mean old Queen Jezebel. I told my person maybe she should stop because I felt some growls about to erupt.

My person said there was just a little bit more because when King Ahab went to that vineyard Elijah showed up. Ahab and Elijah didn’t get along very well but Jezebel really hated Elijah and wanted to kill him. It sounds like she wanted to kill everybody. Elijah was a prophet of the Lord and he told King Ahab Jezebel would get her fair share. He said that dogs would devour her.

My person said that that is what eventually happened. I am so bummed. Not about Jezebel. She deserved it and my growls are calming down now. But those poor dogs. They must have been really hungry. Didn’t they have any good pet stores in those days? Someone could have made a lot of money by opening up a pet store so people could buy their dogs some good food and tasty treats.

Quail Tree

Can You Find the Quail?

Sometimes when my person and I walk on the trails near dark we pass by the quail tree. This tree looks like any other tree, but when we get near it we hear lots of wing flapping and clucking and see quail flying everywhere.

If we didn’t startle those quail by walking by we wouldn’t even know they were there. They blend right in to the tree. I’m not sure why they fly away. Maybe they think we’re going to climb the tree and go after them.

Maybe the birds that fly away are the guard birds and they’re distracting us from other birds around the tree. Hey, I hadn’t thought of that. I’d better start checking around that tree. Maybe I’ll find some tasty morsels.

Oops – I just felt a yank on my leash. My person says no tasty morsels for me. At least not any quail flavored ones. I guess I’ll just have to drool – next time I pass that quail tree.
