Bongo in front of the bush with berriesThere are a lot of quail living on my trails, but I don’t see them all that often.

Most of the time they’re hiding in the bushes.

If I didn’t smell them I wouldn’t even know they were there, except that they give themselves away.

When my person and I come anywhere near where they’re hiding they scurry off.

If they’d stayed where they were we’d never see them, but we usually get a glimpse of them before they’ve hidden themselves in some more bushes.

.

.

.

But this time of year there are some lonely male quails who hang out in plain sight and make lots of noise so everybody knows they’re there.

Quail on a fence with pink flowers nearby

This fence is near the beginning of my trails, before the houses end and the wild things begin.

I guess that quail thought it was a good place to look for a girlfriend.

Quail on fence

Posing will get you everywhere.

Believe me, I know.

I hope those girls come by and notice soon.

If that guy finds a girlfriend maybe things will quiet down on my trails.

Quail in a tree

Hey, wait a minute!

That quail decided I was right about my trails being too noisy…

So he moved into the tree in my front yard?

No Mr. Quail, that’s not what I meant.

Does anybody have any earplugs?

Too Many Flowers

Bongo in front of hedgehog cactus blossomsThey’re everywhere this year.

Spots of magenta peeking out from the browns and greens of my trails.

.

.

.

.

.

It’s kind of like an Easter egg hunt.

Hedgehog cactus blossoms hidden in the woods

Little spots of color popping up when you least expect it.

But I’m going to have to practice my photobombing.

Because my person has to get her camera out every time we pass one of those things.

Hedgehog cactus blossoms

Hedgehog blossom close up

I don’t know what she sees in those things.

They don’t even smell good.

And none of my friends leave messages on them.

That could be disastrous.

All I can hope for is that their blooming season is over very soon.

***

Wait! What?

This is terrible!

The hedgehogs are still in full bloom and the prickly pear are already starting up?

Prickly Pear blossom

Prickly pear blossom

What am I going to do?

Two kinds of cacti blooming at the same time.

I think I’ve got a lot of boring walks to look forward to.

Time for another photobomb.

1000

Bongo in a red bandannaWoo woo!

I got a special message on my blog yesterday.

It’s a lot of adventures shared, and a lot of friends made.

My person says a lot of hours spent on the computer too.

She always complains, but better her than me.

So I guess I should share my message with you.

.

.

.

1,000 Posts!

Congratulations on writing 1,000 total posts on bongodogblog.

.

Can you imagine?

One thousand adventures shared on my blog!

In the same amount of days.

But here’s something even cooler.

Some of my longest time blogging friends, Love Bug and her mumma, and their dogs Bella and Beary over at Bumpy Road to Bubba got their 1000 post message too.

On the very same day!

How awesome to share this special milestone with friends.

I think I’ll send them all some big, slobbery kisses to celebrate.

I hope Love Bug sends me back some little girl loves.

I just love little girl loves.

***

My person thought I should share my most popular post with you but I don’t want to.

It’s that dumb dead mouse again.

One of the first posts I ever wrote.

It’s always that dumb dead mouse.

It’s not even about me, but people keep finding it because of the picture my person drew.

If only she’d taken a picture of that mouse I wouldn’t have this problem

Or maybe if she drew a few pictures of me.

I’m sure people would like me better than a mouse.

And a dead one at that.

***

Well, I’m off to have some more adventures now.

Otherwise, how am I going to write the next thousand posts.

How to be Blessed

Caravaggio - The Incredulity of Saint ThomasPopping, popping popping!

Jesus has been popping in and out all over the place ever since He resurrected.

But how come He missed Thomas when He popped in to see the disciples?

I mean, wouldn’t Thomas feel really left out?

I would doubt too if everybody but me said they saw Jesus.

What?

If I listen, Thomas might get to see Jesus?

Okay, I’ll listen for Thomas.

***

A week after Jesus had popped in to see all the disciples but Thomas they were in the house again, and Thomas was with them.

***

I bet Thomas didn’t let the rest of those disciples out of his sight after missing Jesus the last time.

I am listening.

***

Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

***

I bet Thomas didn’t like putting his finger on Jesus’ owies.

Me, I’d just lick them.

***

Thomas said to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!”

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

***

Does that mean I’m blessed?

Where are They?

Bongo getting out of his kennelWhere are they?

Where are they?

I know they’re around here somewhere.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Maybe under here.

Bongo looking under his kennel

They must be somewhere else.

I’ll find those cats.

You know what those cats did to me?

They tied me up in dog jail.

And I was stuck there all day.

All day!

I’ll get those cats if it’s the last thing I do.

Bongo looking behind the couch - Gizmo on the couch

And when I find them I’m giving them what for.

They deserve every bit of it.

***

Those cats are nowhere to be found.

Guess I’ll take a break.

Bongo and Scratchy on the floor

I don’t believe it.

Normally I can’t get rid of those cats.

But now that I want to find them they don’t seem to be anywhere.

I’d better get some help.

Bongo with a pleading look

Hey person, I’m worried about those cats.

We’d better track them down.

Cats Confide

Scratchy and Gizmo together on the futon“Hey Scratchy, what are we going to do about Bongo?”

“He’s locked up in dog jail Gizmo. I don’t think we have to do anything.”

“But what if he gets out?”

“He won’t get out. He never has yet. He couldn’t even chew his way out during a thunderstorm.”

“I’ve got a friend visiting today. What if she opens the door and lets him out?”

“Oh, yeah you’re right Gizmo. What about this rope here?”

.

“That rope’s too short to tie Bongo up with. But I’ve got a better idea.”

Scratchy and Gizmo together on the futon

“Great idea Gizmo. That was brilliant.”

“He’ll never get out of that dog jail now, will he Scratchy?”

“Not a chance. And Bongo will finally realize that not everyone who comes here to visit is coming specifically for his benefit.”

Bongo in dog jail with a rope tied onto it

“She’ll never be able to get Bongo out of there. She’ll probably give up before she even tries.”

“I’ll bet she won’t even notice that rope anyway because we both know she’s coming over here to see me.”

“Hey Bongo, are you having fun in there?”

This blog post was brought to you by “the cats.”

Treat on the Trail

Bongo and Layla meeting on the trailSomething great happened on my trails the other day.

I was walking along, minding my own business, on a part of my trails where hardly anybody else goes – when I saw her.

My girlfriend Layla.

I hadn’t seen Layla in a very long time.

Weeks, or maybe even months.

So I was really excited.

.

Some of my dog friends don’t like to play much, but Layla loves to play.

Bongo and Layla playing

We ran, and jumped, and had a great time.

Bongo jumping near Layla

But after awhile it was time to get serious.

Bongo and Layla with their heads near each other's

I’m not sure if I wore Layla out, or she didn’t like that serious part because she left me.

Layla walking away from Bongo

Layla, come back!

I guess I’ve blown it again.

The only ones that seem to stick around are the cats.

Blog Theft

Bongo sitting and smilingMy person has been glued to her computer lately.

So you’d think she’d be helping me more with my blog.

I mean, what other reason would there be for her to be on the computer?

But no, I’m not sure what she’s doing.

She hasn’t even helped me answer all my friends who’ve made comments on my blog in the last few days.

And now I’m way behind.

So I hope everybody will understand.

It’s not my fault.

***

What, person?

You want to do what!?

No person, you can’t do that!

Listen to this.

A couple days ago I was innocently napping and a cat stole my blog.

Now my person wants to steal my blog.

And she’s not even going to wait till I’m asleep.

She wants to show you what she’s been doing while she’s been glued to the computer.

She says she’s been taking a Photoshop class (whatever that is) and she’s been working on her final project.

***

I guess I might as well let her show it to you or I’ll never hear the end of it.

Girl sitting on a tree and looking at a butterfly

What!?

You’ve got two pictures?

Oh alright. Go ahead.

Girl dancing on top of the word JOY

I hope she’s done now and I can have my blog back.

Scratchy, don’t you dare come near this computer!

Confused Cactus

Bongo and prickly pear cactus in the sunThere is a lot of prickly pear cactus on my trails.

Most of the time if you stay away from the cactus, it will stay away from you.

That’s how we get along, that cactus and I.

All winter that cactus sits around and doesn’t do much of anything – except maybe get eaten by javelina.

But in the spring the prickly pear has blossoms.

They’re not quite here yet.

.

.

Prickly pear cactus with buds

And it will be bad when they do come out because my person will stop and take all kinds of pictures of them.

Pink flowers next to a prickly pear cactus

Hey wait a minute!

The prickly pear around here don’t have pink blossoms.

What’s going on?

If I were a pink flower I would not be growing there.

They must be stuck.

***

But back to the prickly pear.

In the fall they have fruit.

Big, red, juicy fruit.

Like pears with prickles.

But I found this one prickly pear that doesn’t seem to know what time of year it is.

Prickly pear cactus with one fruit

Or maybe this prickly pear is trying to be my friend.

No flower pictures.

This one cut right to the fruit.

Gizmo’s Blog

Gizmo looking at Bongo on the computerBongo left his blog open.

I’ve always wondered about that.

Oh, this is Gizmo by the way.

I’m the new cat here.

The one that’s putting Bongo in his place.

Scratchy tries alright, but he definitely needs some help.

So that’s where I come in.

.

.

.

But about this blog…

Gizmo looking away from the computer

There’s got to be something I can do with this.

Let me see.

Oh, I know.

I’m pretty sure this computer has some pictures of me on it somewhere.

I’ve just got to find where they are.

Here it is!

Bongo will never know what happened to him.

Welcome to Gizmo’s blog!
