Who Stole the Cookies?

“Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?”

Not me person. I didn’t do it.

“Then who?”

Person, I don’t know. Are you sure my younger person didn’t eat the rest of those cookies? You know how much he likes them.

He wouldn’t what?

Oh.

He might leave the lid on the carpet in the other room. You never know. Maybe he got all excited when he was eating those cookies and forgot what he was doing.

Well, if he didn’t do it, I don’t know who did.

Oh look. There he is. Right by the evidence. Scratchy did it. He’s right there checking it out. Proof that he did it.

What? Of course he did. That Scratchy is always up to no good.

Okay, let me check. I bet I can prove it to you.

Hmmm. I think I left a few crumbs in here.

Jealousy Can Be Deadly

Hey person, you know that David guy? The one who killed that giant named Goliath?

Yeah, him. Whatever happened to his sheep – and his sheep dogs?

What? He didn’t? Other people had to take care of them? Why? Won’t David miss them?

My person says that after David killed Goliath he became a big hero and all the Israelites loved him. King Saul kept David in his service and didn’t let him go home any more to his family and his sheep – and sheep dogs.

But then something happened. After that battle with the Philistines all the people praised King Saul, but they praised David even more.

And King Saul got really jealous.

King Saul got so jealous that while David was playing the harp for him he threw a spear at him and tried to pin David to the wall.

He what!? He threw that spear at David twice? I hope David was okay.

My person says that David got away from King Saul and then King Saul was afraid of David because he knew the Lord was with him. So you know what that mean old King Saul did? He sent David out to battle, hoping that David would get killed.

David didn’t get killed, did he person? What would his sheep do without him?

He was? Oh that’s good. My person says David was very successful in battle because the Lord was with him, and he became even more of a hero in Israel.

So then what happened?

No way. You know what happened next? That mean old King Saul threw another spear at David while he was playing the harp. David had had enough by this point and he knew King Saul meant business, so that night he escaped.

What happened next person? Oh, come on. Tell me more.

I don’t believe it. My person won’t tell me any more. She says King Saul chased after David and David had lots and lots of adventures.

What kind of adventures person? Did David’s sheep have adventures too?

Really? David’s sheep didn’t have any adventures, but some other sheep did?

Come on person, I think you’re pulling the wool over my eyes.

It’s so Comfy

I’m not allowed on the couches around here and it’s totally not fair. My people get to sit on those nice comfy couches – they can even curl up on them if they want to, and wrap themselves in nice, toasty blankets. What makes it even worse is that Scratchy is allowed to get on the couch any time he wants. As a matter of fact, Scratchy is allowed on all the furniture – the couches, the chairs, and even the beds.

Scratchy is even allowed on the countertops. Well, at least the one where his food is. I don’t know why my people don’t feed him on the floor. They feed me there.

I’m totally relegated to the floors. The hard, cold floors.

Person, you don’t have to ruin my story. I know there’s carpet on the floors and I have a bed I can lay on. I’m trying to make everyone feel sorry for me.

Anyway, I’d like my turn on the couch too but I have to wait until my people leave the house to get my chance. When I hear a car in the driveway I quickly get up and head to the door to greet my people. That way they aren’t suspicious at all.

Today I blew it though. I don’t know what happened. I must have really been sleeping soundly. I didn’t hear a thing – and then, there she was. My person had come in the door.

Oops! — I’m in trouble now!

To the Vet

I got to go to the vet. Yeah I know, some of you who are my dog friends don’t like the vet and your people even have to spell it out. Believe me, I didn’t used to like going. The first time my person took me I even spit out the dog treat they gave me – and if you know me, dog treats are my favorite.

I think I didn’t like the vet then because they’d taken some things away from me. When my people first brought me home I had some missing parts.

But now I love the vet.

First, I get to go find lots of new smells. I always check to see if I recognize any smells from my trails. Sometimes I find the same ones.

Then, I get treats. I used to only get treats when I was ready to go back home, but today I got lots of treats.

I didn’t really like all those things they stuck in me, but after that I got more treats – and loves, so it was okay.

There’s a new vet working with my other vet and I got to meet her. I really like her. She gave me lots of loves – and that’s all she did – she kept giving me loves. I like her a lot.

What, person? She was examining me?

No, you’re wrong. She liked me so much that all she wanted to do was give me loves.

Unmarked Territory

Remember the other day when those guys were cutting down the branches? I wanted the chance to mark fresh, untouched branches but when we got there the guys weren’t working at all. They were taking a break.

Well, a couple days later my person and I were walking in that area again, and guess what? We found the branches. And there were logs, too. I thought for sure those guys would take all the branches away with them, but they didn’t. They saved them for me.

I could tell they were the same branches because I could smell the fresh cut wood fragrance. Even my person could smell it, and she doesn’t seem to be able to smell many things.

I checked for other dog’s marks and I didn’t smell any.

Yippee! Here goes! Unmarked territory all for me.

Where’s the Cute Girls?

I really hoped I could find some cute girls to get loves from for Valentine’s Day.

Person, you’ve got to take me somewhere. Anywhere – as long as I can find cute girls there who will give me loves. What would people think if I didn’t get any loves from cute girls for Valentine’s Day? It would spoil my reputation.

Well, guess what! My person took me out and we headed for my trails. As we were about to enter the parking lot a blue Subaru pulled in ahead of us. We walked past the car just as people got out of it – and I was so surprised! One of the people from the car is my friend – a friend that I’ve never seen on my trails before. And not just any friend mind you – this person is the cute girl kind of friend.

But it gets even better because my friend had a friend with her and she is also in the cute girl category. My trails really are heaven. Not only do I get to go on walks and smell all the smells, but I got loves from two cute girls at the same time.

Perfect for Valentine’s Day! What more could anydog ask?

Happy Birthday Arizona

Happy Valentine’s Day Birthday Arizona. I know it’s Valentine’s Day today, and I think I’ll go look for some cute girls to get some loves from – but my person told me it’s also Arizona’s birthday. She says it’s Arizona’s hundredth birthday – something called a Centennial.

Okay person, I don’t know what centennial means but if you’re asking, I don’t have ten cents to give you. Maybe you should increase my allowance – at least give me more doggie treats.

My person has been really busy on her computer the last few days and not paying much attention to me. Okay, she did stop and take me out on my trails. She says she was working on a presentation for her church on the Christian history of Arizona because it’s the Centennial. Person, I told you I don’t have any money.

She told me about this town named Tombstone that she learned some new things about. Have you heard of Tombstone? It’s kind of famous but I’ve never been there. My person says she and my younger person have – before they got me. My person says they’ve made lots of movies about Tombstone. Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday lived there, and that’s where they had the shootout at the OK Corral.

Person, is this an animal story? Why are you telling me this?

Horses? They had horses? Okay. I guess that’s good enough.

My person says Tombstone had lots of miners, cowboys, and gunslingers, – and horses, but they had something else too. She says the very first Protestant church in Arizona was built there.

Person, wouldn’t all those tough guys beat up the church people?

Really? My person says the priest who oversaw the building of the church was a boxer and nobody wanted to mess with him.

What??? You mean that church was started by a dog!!!?

Confession

I’m going to get really serious today and tell you something personal. I don’t know if I can do this, I mean – serious isn’t fun and I’m sure you know how much I’m about fun.

Okay, here goes. This is a real confession. My younger person didn’t used to like me very much. He said I was bad and he didn’t want anything to do with me. It made me feel bad – so I’m not sure if I was bad, or I just felt bad.

Anyway, for the last several months my younger person has been spending a lot of time at the house of a very special friend. This special friend of my younger person has dogs – two of them.

These dogs aren’t like me at all. I’m not allowed to tell you what they do for fear of giving us dogs a bad name. Yeah I know, I’m not perfect but I’m good when my people are around – I am, aren’t I person? I’ve got to have a little fun when you’re not here.

Now that my younger person has been spending time around these other dogs he’s decided that he likes me much better – that I’m not so bad after all. All that being said, I can’t figure out for the life of me why my younger person keeps hanging out with those other dogs.

A Sling and a Stone

Another story about David? And this one’s a really big adventure? What I want to know is what happened to David’s sheep – and his sheep dogs?

He did? My person says that when David went to play the harp for King Saul he missed his sheep so he would go home to be with them sometimes. Well, one time when David was hanging out with his sheep Saul and the Israelite army ended up having a big standoff with the Philistine army.

I asked my person why the Israelites didn’t get their air force to come help them and she said that wasn’t possible. I’m not sure why.

My person said that David’s three oldest brothers had followed King Saul to the war. Jesse, David’s father, told David to take some food to his brothers and find out how they were doing.

David had to leave his sheep and his sheep dogs again, but he obeyed his father and went to see his brothers. When he got there he saw a Philistine named Goliath who was challenging the Israelites to send one man to fight with him. Goliath was a giant – over nine feet tall – and the Israelites were afraid of him.

King Saul learned that David was asking about Goliath and sent for him. David told King Saul that he would fight Goliath and King Saul told David he was just a boy and didn’t stand a chance.

David said he had killed both a bear and a lion while defending his sheep – Wow, David. You rock! – yeah, I’m listening person. David said the Lord who had protected him from the lion and the bear would also protect him against Goliath.

King Saul gave David his armor to wear in the fight, but David said it would just get in the way because he wasn’t used to it. He chose five smooth stones from the stream and his sling instead. Are you sure David? You don’t want to turn your sheep and sheep dogs into orphans.

When Goliath saw David approaching he was insulted that the Israelites would send a boy to fight him. He cursed David and told him he was a goner.

David told Goliath he had come against him in the name of the Lord Almighty and the Lord was much stronger than Goliath’s sword, and spear, and javelin.

David reached into his bag, took out a stone, and slung it at Goliath. The stone struck Goliath in the forehead and sank in. Goliath fell face down on the ground and the Philistine army ran.

Hey person, I’m going to go out and collect some stones. No, I won’t hurt anybody with them. I’m collecting them for David’s sheep dogs. They’ve got lions and bears around and David isn’t there.

Dog Heaven

My person and I passed a lady on my trails and she said she thought the trails were Dog Heaven. My trails are pretty special, but I never thought of them that way before. That means that every time I leave my house and head out on my trails I’m in heaven. That means that heaven is right here – right next to my house.

That is so awesome. Someday, way far from now, I won’t have to go to the bother of crossing over the Rainbow Bridge because I’ll just have to walk out to my trails and I’ll be in heaven. There will be other dogs there, and people too, because I always see other dogs and people on my trails.

And I won’t be so far from home, so I can just stop by whenever I want. I can take my people for a walk so they’ll be in heaven too. Hey, I think that means we’re all in heaven every time we go out on my trails.

Hey person, can we go to heaven now?
