Wrong People

Bongo at the vet looking for treatsLast time I went to the vet I got the wrong people.

I don’t know what was wrong with them, but the usual people – the ones who usually take me into the room and stick things up my butt and stuff…

Well, the usual people give me lots of treats.

The whole time I’m in that room they’re giving me treats.

And loves.

Lots of loves.

That’s why I like going to the vet.

But the people I got last time I was there didn’t do that.

No treats – no loves.

Well, at least not until everything was over.

Bongo at the vet looking at jars with medical supplies in them

Those jars up there – I bet that’s where all the treats are.

When those vet people come back in here they’d better empty those jars and give me all the treats.

***

I thought I was getting lucky for a minute, but they must have grabbed the wrong jar because what they pulled out of it wasn’t a treat.

Next time I go to the vet I’d better get those treat and loves people back –

Or I’m going hunting for a new vet.

Children and Loves

Jesus and childrenI’ve been eating humble pie since last week’s Bible story so I can get extra treats. And I still don’t have any.

And humble pie doesn’t taste very good.

Maybe if I can figure out a way to get to the top of the refrigerator I can pull all the treats down – and eat them.

What!? You’re going to tell me a story where Jesus rebuked his disciples?

And he’s going to rebuke me too if I do what I just said?

Do I get extra treats if He rebukes me?

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have Him place His hands on them and pray for them, but the disciples rebuked the people who brought them.

***

Did the disciples give all those people treats?

What do you mean, rebuke doesn’t mean giving out treats? What else could it mean?

***

When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

***

Is it alright if I hinder those little children so I can get some loves?

I am listening.

***

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

***

I can act as childish as you want.

What do you mean, sit and listen?

***

Jesus took the children in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.

***

Alright! Jesus gives out loves.

I’m standing in line.

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

Bongo behind barsOctober is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and since I came from dog jail a shelter I thought I should help promote this.

So I’m going to tell you how awful it is living in dog jail. I was surrounded by all these other dogs and none of us did anything wrong, but they made us live in cages.

We didn’t have anybody to love on us or take us for walks – well, sometimes we did, but we had to share a few people with a whole lot of dogs.

And everybody wanted their turn for loves and walks.

Bongo looking down the trail

There was never enough to go around.

When my people finally came and took me out of that dog jail and brought me to my new forever home I wagged my tail and jumped for joy.

Well, I was a little nervous at first, but after I realized I got to stay, then I did those things.

And I had someone around to toss balls to me anytime I wanted.

Bongo behind couches with a tennis ball

And someone to pull mischief on. Whew! I’m glad I got that last sentence crossed out before you read it.

Maybe she'll get out of bed for my snake

Maybe she’ll get out of bed for my snake.

There are still lots of lonely dogs in shelters everywhere.

So if you have an empty spot in your house and heart that could be filled by a dog, there’s no better time than now to give a dog a new forever home.

You’ll be glad you did.

And so will the dog.

Paw Print

Bongo looking at a paw print on a carI didn’t do it.

No, really I didn’t.

Some other dog beat me to it.

Some other dog put his paw print on that car.

I only do things like that when there’s somebody in a car that I want loves from.

And there’s nobody in that car.

So it wasn’t me.

I hope that other dog got some good loves.

Because it wasn’t me.

Person, maybe you’d better give me extra loves because I was a good dog.

I didn’t put my paw print on that car.

And I bet I missed out on some loves because of it.

I’ll take those loves now person.

Because if you don’t give them to me…

I might decide to put a paw print on your car.

Eventful Easter

Bongo sniffing an Easter egg on the trailToday is Monday Mischief and I was going to tell you a great story about somebody else’s mischief – something I had no part in. But then I had such a great walk yesterday afternoon that I just had to share that instead. That mischief story will have to wait.

Yesterday was Easter, and while I was on my trails I found an Easter egg. I didn’t even know I was going on an Easter egg hunt. I was so excited. Somebody left an Easter egg just for me.

But if that’s all that happened all I would have is an Easter egg hunt story and lots of people had those yesterday. But there was more.

I passed three little girls. Cute little girls. And all three of them gave me loves. One of them even got down from her daddy’s shoulders to give me loves. Woo woo!

What, person? You didn’t take any pictures of those little girls giving me loves. How’s anybody going to believe me then? If I have to wait while you take pictures of all those flowers, then you’d better get your camera out and take pictures of me any time I’m getting loves. Even if those loves are from boys.

I guess I’ll have to look for more loves on my next walk. And make sure my person has her camera out and ready.

But there’s more.

I have a neighbor dog who lives on the other side of my backyard fence. Every time we’re outside together he barks at me. He’s a through the fence kind of friend. I wrote about him here. For a long time we’ve always had a fence between us when we meet. Yesterday, we finally got to meet dog to dog. Moe tried to give me what for like he does through the fence but I gave him what for back and then we were even. Moe backed off while my person talked to his person. They hadn’t met before either.

Bongo and Moe on the trail

So now that Moe knows who’s top dog around here, I’ll let him be my friend.

Moe, I’ll be out to meet you at the fence again in a little while.

Treats and Loves Twice

Bongo at the VetTwo times this week! Do you believe it? I got to go for a ride in the car and we stopped at the treats and loves place twice this week. That’s never happened before. At least that I remember.

That treats and loves place is pretty cool, but I still can’t figure out why my person keeps yelling at me when I’m in the car. She always wants me to lie down, and then she keeps yelling “back.” She’s sitting in the front of the car. I don’t know why I can’t be up there with her.

But I guess I’d better tell you what that treats and loves place is. No, it’s not the doggy spa. I’m too cool to go there. It’s the vet. They see me coming and they get out the treats. They love me there.

Don’t tell my person though – she doesn’t know because they left her behind and just took me into the room – but I had to work really hard for those treats. They poked needles in me. I’m not sure why they do that. Maybe they had to test to see which kinds of treats are my favorite. I could have told them that, though.

When I left they told me to say hi to Scratchy – so after we got in the car, my person yelled “back”, and we made it back home I hurried in the house to give Scratchy the hi.

And you know what Scratchy did?

He growled.

Scratchy on his cat cage

I guess they don’t give Scratchy treats and loves at the vet. I wonder why.

You’d Choose Me

Bongo getting loves from an artistI haven’t seen one of those on my trails since the Sedona Plein Air Festival. An artist!

And not only an artist, but a really cool artist. One that gives loves to dogs.

And she came a very long way to give me loves too. All the way from Canada.

That really makes her special. I don’t know many people who would come from Canada to give me loves – let alone artists.

What, person?

What do you mean, she didn’t come to see me? Of course she did.

What red rocks?

Oh, those. Why would anybody want to paint those?

Yeah, I know there’s a picture of the red rocks that you painted hanging in our living room.

Yeah, I know you take pictures of those red rocks and post them on my blog sometimes.

But you’re here already. And you just can’t leave your camera at home. And besides, I’m here so you don’t have to travel anywhere to give me loves.

So let me ask you this, person. If you could travel anywhere in the world, and you had a choice of either going to a place where you could paint red rocks, or to the place I was so you could give me loves you’d choose me, right? Yup, I knew it.

Well, don’t you think most people would choose me over red rocks? That artist is just extra lucky because she didn’t have to decide.

P.S. I wasn’t making this artist thing up. You can see her website here.

Travelling Trails Sign

Bongo by a license plate that says TRA1LSI was heading out to my trails minding my own business, when all of a sudden I stopped in my tracks. Something new had appeared. A travelling sign pointing people to my trails.

This is good. This will make it easier for people to find my trails. And that means more people on my trails to give me loves.

But, wait a minute! There’s something wrong with this picture. This is a travelling Trails sign. Won’t that confuse people?

People will see the sign that points to my trails, but  when they come back again the sign might be gone, and the people will think my trails have disappeared.

How terrible!

People will go somewhere else, trying to find that Trails sign again. And there won’t be any people on my trails to give me loves.

And when that sign points to different trails, some other dog will be getting all the loves.

                                                                             ***

I’ve got an idea.

I’d better make sure the people with this travelling Trails sign aren’t looking though.

Bongo looking around the car with the TRA1LS license plate

The coast is clear. I don’t see anyone coming.

Quick, does anyone have a tow truck?

If I tow away the travelling part, the sign will stay here forever.

In the Trunk

Bongo crawling in the trunk of a carToday when my person and I got back from our walk my neighbor dog Toby and one of his people were out in their yard. Well, of course I had to go over and see them.

But when we got there I found something even more interesting. So I ignored Toby – well I did give him a little sniff first – and brushed by Toby’s person, and headed for the open trunk.

I’m a sucker for any open car door, but I’ve never tried a trunk before. I wonder how it works, riding in a trunk.

Hmmm. Something in here smells pretty good.

Bongo turning around in the trunk of a car

I’m not sure how this is going to work though – riding back here. I don’t seem to be able to look out the window. Maybe there’s a way to get a better view.

Oh, wait a minute. I just figured out what a trunk is for. It’s not for riding in at all.

Bongo getting loves while standing in the trunk of a car

Now that I’m in the trunk I’m at the perfect height.

My neighbor can give me loves and he doesn’t have to bend over at all.

Somebody sure was smart when they invented the trunk.

The Package Person

Bongo getting lovesToday was a really good day. It was warm and sunny and I was lounging around in the sunny spot when I heard someone coming to the door.

I recognized the sound. Sometimes I hear her coming to the door when my person’s not home. All I can do is peak out the window (don’t tell my person because I have to get up on the couch to do that – but it’s not my fault it’s in the way) and maybe bark a time or two. Then when my person comes home she finds a package sitting at the door.

But this time my person was home and she opened the door when my friend came up to it. Well, guess what. It seems my person and this package person know each other. They used to hang out together at this place called “work.”

And this package person (my person says she’s our mail carrier) is really cool because she likes to give me loves. Loves and packages.

I wonder what’s in that package she brought me. Maybe treats – or a new squeaky toy.

What, person? What do you mean that package isn’t for me? What do you mean it’s something you ordered for my younger person?

Then I think you’d better get on your computer right now and order me some packages. But make sure the delivery is spread out so I get a new one every day. And make sure you’re home when they come so I get my loves too.

Woo woo! Packages and loves every single day. What more could any dog want?
