About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Cool Car

Boy in a lime green toy carAs I headed home from my trails today, there it was.

The coolest lime green car you’ve ever seen.

And one of my little friends was inside.

He got that car for Christmas because he was a good boy.

I’m a good dog.

Where’s my car?

I could too step on those pedals and drive it.

Bongo checking out the car

Those pedals aren’t that far in there.

I could reach them.

Bongo sniffing the seat of the car

I decided I’d better check this car out thoroughly before taking it for a spin.

You never know who might have been in here before me.

So I got the car checked out and decided it was time to get in.

Move over little friend. Make sure there’s enough room for me.

Boy holding Bongo at arm's length

Wait! What?

What do you mean, you don’t trust my driving?

Trail Arrow

Bongo checking out a pointing rockHmmm. This is the place that my person has decided is our turnaround point.

We usually go out this far on my trails and then we head back when we get here.

Most of the time I want to keep going, but my person won’t let me.

She always has an excuse.

She’s too busy, or it’s too cold, or whatever else she can come up with.

She pulls that busy one most of the time though.

But there’s something different here today.

I’ve never seen this here before.

.

There’s an arrow here pointing further out on my trails.

That’s got to mean something.

Today’s the day we keep on trekking.

I’m following the arrow!

Bongo walking off in the direction the rock is pointing

Hey person, come on. This way!

What do you mean, what am I doing?

I’m following directions.

I’ve watched you driving before.

When there’s a sign pointing a certain way you follow it.

Well, there’s a sign pointing this way on my trails.

We have to follow it.

***

Person, I don’t believe it!

You’re going to ignore this sign and make me go back?

You know, you’re taking your chances.

I sure hope the trail police don’t find you and give you a ticket for failure to follow directions.

Confident or Humble?

Pharisee and the tax collectorI’m still praying for those treats and you’re going to tell me another of Jesus’ Pair a Bulls?

I’m not finished with the last one yet. There sure are a lot of bulls around here.

If I listen do I get some treats?

What!? I’ve got to listen before I can have some treats?

Oh, all right.

***

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable:

***

I’m confident.

Is Jesus telling this to me?

What do you mean, if I listen I’ll find out?

***

Jesus said, “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men – robbers, evildoers, adulterers – or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’”

***

Wow, that guy thinks he’s pretty good.

I wonder if he’s nice to dogs.

I’m listening.

***

“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’”

***

I bet that guy feels bad because nobody likes tax collectors.

I’ll give him loves – if he gives me treats.

***

Then Jesus said, “I tell you that this man – the tax collector – , rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

***

I’m the humblest dog around.

Now do I get my treats?

Get Serious!

Bongo looking seriousWhat do you mean, I have to get serious?

I don’t know how to be serious.

I know how to have adventures, and I know how to have fun – but serious?

Come on now.

Get serious! Oops, I mean – well, you know what I mean.

Oh, is that all you want me to do?

Okay, I can do that.

My person finally figured out that my 2013 blogging report was up.

I’ve made lots of good friends in the time I’ve been blogging, and I want to thank some special friends.

While I’ve made some new friends in the past year, it was really fun to find out that four out of my five top commenters were also in the top five last year, and in the exact same order. And number five has been a friend for a long time too.

So here they are:

Number five is Cupcake at http://cupcakepetrillo.wordpress.com. Cupcake is a very cute therapy dog (don’t tell her but I’m kind of in love) who likes goose poop and dressing up.

Number four is the Collies at http://colliesofthemeadow.wordpress.com/. There are so many collies there I have trouble keeping track of them. I think their dad Chuck does too. But my favorite is Ginger, my best girlfriend; because I’m one of the key players in helping her achieve world domination.

Number three is Little Binky at http://angelswhisper2011.wordpress.com. It’s really hard to admit, but I’m good friends with a cat. Don’t tell Scratchy, the cat I live with. He might give me a bad time about it.

Number two is Kevin. Kevin is a Shiba-Inu from Japan who puts up with a lot of cats and is a great friend. Kevin doesn’t have his own blog, but you can find him on Twitter at https://twitter.com/eripanwkevin

And number one is Marina at http://marinakanavaki.com. Marina is a wonderful artist and also a musician. You can see lots of her artwork on her blog. Oh yeah, and she sends me fish. Maybe only virtual fish, but I can still taste them in my imagination. Yum!

So what do I have to do now, person?

I have to do what?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

So this is for all my top commenting friends, but also for all of my friends who have ever commented on my blog – except maybe for the spam ones.

Thanks for the comments and for being my friends!

Scratchy, Get Off!

Bongo caught lying in his kennelI have this really cool new dog bed in my dog jail.

But now I have a problem.

You see, I still have an old dog bed.

Right now my old bed has a hole in it, so my person put it by the sewing machine until she gets around to fixing that hole.

But Scratchy decided to take over my bed.

.

Scratchy sleeping on Bongo's bed

Scratchy, can’t you see that’s a dog bed?

Those are dog paw prints on that bed – not cat prints.

I don’t believe this!

Scratchy gets to sleep anywhere he wants.

He can sleep on any of the couches and even on my person’s bed.

I’m only allowed to sleep on the floor and on my dog beds.

Somehow I feel like a second class citizen.

I only have two dog beds to sleep on and Scratchy has all those nice, comfy places to sleep – and he decides to sleep on one of my beds.

Scratchy, if you don’t hurry up and get off my bed I’m going to give you what for.

***

I guess that did it.

I scared him off that time.

Scratchy sitting in front of the computer screen

That’s a much better place for Scratchy. Right in front of the computer screen.

Oh, wait. I hope my person has finished typing up my blog post.

Jail Bed

Bongo sleeping in his kennelHmmm. This new dog bed that showed up in my dog jail on Christmas is really comfy.

I hope my person doesn’t catch me sleeping on it.

She might think I like my dog jail.

I might get locked up in here even more than I do now.

Zzzzzzzzz. What a nice place for a nap.

.

.

***

What? What was that?

I think a light just flashed.

I hope it’s not lightning – because that means the next thing coming is thunderrrrrr!

Whew! It’s too quiet for thunder.

Maybe I’d better open an eye and see what it was.

Oh no! My person is there holding her camera.

If I turn my back to her maybe she won’t notice I’m sleeping in here.

Bongo turned away in the kennel

Person, you don’t see me in here.

I was not sleeping in here.

I just came in because – because –

Because one of my toys got in here somehow and I had to come in to get it.

Scratchy must have put it in here.

Really person, really.

Bongo caught lying in his kennel

You’ll never catch me sleeping in here with the door open.

Squirrel Thief

Bongo looking out the windowWould you look at that? Just look at that!

I know I’m not supposed to be on the couch, person – but look!

Just look at what that squirrel’s doing.

He’s stealing it!

Right in front of my eyes.

We’ve got to stop him.

Let me at him, person.

.

He’ll steal them all if we don’t stop him.

Squirrel in a tree with a Christmas light in his mouth

Look, person!

That squirrel’s got it in his mouth and he’s running off with it.

How can you let him get away with that?

Person, that squirrel stole one of our Christmas lights!

Right off the tree outside.

I was watching and he didn’t even care.

He just kept working at it until he got that light loose.

***

Well, if you’re not going to do anything person, I will.

And I’m going to get all my friends to help.

I’m posting a reward.

Wanted poster of the squirrel

I’ll get that pesky squirrel if it’s the last thing I do.

Keep Bugging

English: Illustration of the Parable of the Un...

English: Illustration of the Parable of the Unjust Judge from the New Testament Gospel of Luke (Luke 18:1-9) by John Everett Millais for The Parables of Our Lord (1863) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Hey, I think that faith thing does work.

Remember last week when I said I had faith that I would get treats?

Well, I did get treats for Christmas so my faith did work.

I’m supposed to what?

I’m supposed to thank Jesus for the treats my faith brought?

Maybe you should just tell me another story.

***

Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.

***

Jesus is telling another one of those Pair a Bulls?

They must have had a lot of bulls around in His day.

I am listening.

***

Jesus said, “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’”

***

Did that widow have to keep getting appointments to see the judge? I bet she had a really big phone bill from making all those phone calls for appointments.

I’m listening. I’m listening.

***

“For some time the judge refused to grant the widow justice. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually wear me out with her coming!’”

***

See person. That’s why I keep bugging you until I get what I want. You know that I won’t quit until I get it and you get tired of my bugging.

What, there’s more?

***

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will He keep putting them off? I tell you, He will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

***

I have faith.

My faith brought me treats.

Thank you Jesus.

I have faith and treats.

Well, I used to have treats.

I think I need more faith treats.
