About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Tagged, Tagged, and Tagged Again

Bongo's HeadI don’t think I’m very good at this tagging game. I keep getting tagged – all the time. A bunch of my dog blogging friends tagged me, and at the same time I was putting up a post answering those questions my friends at Bringing up Bella were tagging me again. Bella is a rescue dog from Puerto Rico who was sent to the States to find her forever home.

I’ve also been tagged by two people blogging friends and they gave me two entirely different sets of questions. They really made me think and my brain is all fuzzy now from answering all these questions. My person says sometimes people have to take tests in school and sometimes they’re really hard. I think this was like one of those hard tests. I hope I got an A.

The first person blogging friend to tag me was Buddhakat. Buddhakat’s blog has all kinds of interesting things on it, but my favorites are the Friday Fractals. These are unique pieces of computer generated art. Each one is different and they’re all beautiful. And I think they get better every week.

So here’s the questions:

1)      If you could live in any OTHER time, when would it be and why?

Time? What’s that? I’m happy where I am.

2)      What about yourself are you most proud of?

I’m proud that I’ve been able to make so many friends through my blog.

3)      Who is your absolute favorite musical artist/group? Movie?

I don’t know about music, but I found out there’s a band called The Bongodogs. That’s my favorite name for a band. Movie? That would have to be Marley and Me. Marley is my mentor.

4)   What subject was your favorite in all of your schooling? Why?

My favorite subject would have to be PE, ‘cause my person takes me on lots of hikes.

5)      The most important thing I want to teach my children is____________.

Someone took care of that so I can’t have any children, but if I had any I would have to teach them how to be mischievous like me.

6)      What three things would you grab if your house were aburning and you knew for sure your family and animals were all safe?

My Frisbee, my squeaky toys, and my dog treats.

7)   Do you have nightmares? Care to share?

I sleep really well, but I worry if I think my person is going to leave me.

8)   Coke or Pepsi?

?????

9)   Do you believe in the paranormal? Do you have any experiences you’d like to tell us about? Please?

I believe in Ghost Dog.

10)   My favorite season is _______________ because__________.

My favorite season is fall, because it has the best weather for going on walks.

11)   What one 6 word phrase or sentence best describes you?

I’m most happy on my trails.

The second person blogging friend to tag me is Windupmyskirt. I’m not sure how to describe her blog, except that it’s a lot different than mine.

So here’s my second test. This is hard.

1.      Why did you start your blog?

My person decided it was better to laugh at my antics than to get upset, so she started putting funny things on Facebook about me. I really didn’t like her making fun of me but so many of her friends liked it that she decided I could have my own blog.

2.     Who is your favourite actor/actress?

That would be Jonah, the dog who plays Marley in Marley and Me.

3.     Name your favourite band/musician?

I’m not into music, but the name I like best for a band is The Bongodogs.

4.     What is your favourite TV Show?

My person won’t let me watch TV.

5.     Who is your favourite scientist?

It must be Pavlov because he gave his dog treats.

6.     Name your favourite author?

John Grogan. He wrote Marley and Me.

7.     What do you do with your free time when you are not online?

Go on walks on my trails and catch Frisbees. Oh yeah, and eat.

8.    If you had to live in another country, which country would you choose and why?

I love where I live because my trails are here, but I would like to visit all of my blogging friends who live in other countries.

9.     What three words best describe you?

Fun, energetic, mischievous

10.   What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

Getting into mischief when no one’s around to see what I’m doing. But I don’t feel guilty about it unless I get caught.

11.  If you were throwing a dinner party, and could invite any 10 people (living or dead) who would you invite?

Can I invite 10 dogs? I don’t think the people would like what I’m serving.

New Adventure – New Friend

Pablo and BongoMy person let me get into the car with her today. The little car, not the big one. She usually takes me to the vet in the little car. Maybe I’m going to get more loves and treats.

Hmmm. We don’t usually go this far in the car when we go to the vet’s. I wonder where we’re going.

Finally, we’re stopping. Hey, there’s a little dog here. I recognize this dog. I’ve smelled him on you before person. He’s getting in the car with us too?

Bongo looking at Pablo in the front seat

Hey, how come Pablo gets to ride in front?

We rode for a little while – with me in the back and Pablo in the front – and then all of us got out of the car. It’s a trail!

Bongo and Pablo on the trail

I’ll give you a head start Pablo.

Bongo tangled around a post

Hey Pablo, wait for me!

Bongo and Bell Rock

Hey person, hurry up. What is that thing up there?

It’s a rock? Bell Rock? It looks like a giant UFO.

Really? Some people think a real UFO is going to come out of that rock? I wonder if any aliens look like dogs.

Bongo Leading the Way

Hey person, the trail goes this way.

Bongo and Pablo not looking at the scenery

What are you looking at?

Hey Pablo, I think our people have been looking at these rocks long enough. Let’s take them back to the car now.

Where Did it Come From?

Bongo's nose checking an objectHey person, look at this. I don’t think it belongs here. What is it?

It’s all mixed in with the rocks and dirt, but I think it’s made of metal. There’s not supposed to be metal on my trails. Where do you think it came from?

Do you think somebody’s jewelry fell apart and they lost this part of it here?

Oh, I know. It was one of those pack rats. They like shiny objects, don’t they? I bet a pack rat stole it and then dropped it here because it wasn’t shiny any more. See, it’s not very shiny. I thought metal was supposed to be shiny.

Do you think I should go find that pack rat and give this back to him? After all, this is littering. He shouldn’t have dropped this here.

Maybe if you shined it up person, that pack rat would want it again? Could you shine it up, person?

You will? And you know what it is? It’s a what?

It doesn’t look anything like a penny, person. I’ve seen pennies before. My younger person always leaves them lying on the counter. They’re round, person. Don’t you know anything?

It got what? Smashed in a machine?

Imprinted penny from Williams, AZ

Look at that, person. You shined it up and it says stuff. Hey, wait a minute. This penny says it’s from Williams. I don’t believe it! That pack rat brought this penny all the way from Williams. I’ll never be able to find him to give it back.

Setting up Mischief

Bongo SittingI did that on purpose, person. I let you catch me on the couch. I usually get off before you come in the room. Oops. No, I mean, that was the only time I was on there. Well, that and the other time times you caught me. It’s the Monday Mischief Blog Hop, and I needed some kind of mischief to talk about.  You know how I’m normally such a good dog. I usually don’t do anything wrong. You see how I let you catch me. I had to set it up.

What? What are you talking about? I didn’t do that. Scratchy ate all his food. Yeah, and he moved his dish too. It doesn’t take much to move when it’s empty.

I don’t know why he was so hungry when you got home. You probably didn’t feed him enough, person. Next time maybe you should feed him more. As a matter of fact, that’s a very good idea. You haven’t been feeding Scratchy enough lately.

Your bed? I don’t know what happened. Oh, don’t you remember? You didn’t make your bed this morning. I’m sure you didn’t.

Well, you’re remembering wrong then.

Oh, that. I think my younger person missed the garbage can. He tried to put that stuff in there but he missed and it went on the floor.

I don’t know why it was all chewed up. I’ve got no idea, person.

Aren’t you glad I’m such a good dog? How many dogs do you know that have to set up their mischief so they have something to post on the Monday Mischief Blog Hop?

No Missing Sheep

Español: Juan Antonio de Frías y Escalante, La...

Hey person, when are you going to tell me the story about those other sheep that David met?

Really? You’re finally going to tell me? So what happened to David’s sheep?

Okay, I’ll listen.

My person says King Saul kept chasing David, so David couldn’t go back home and see his sheep. But he went to a place where there were some other sheep. The sheep belonged to a rich man named Nabal who owned a thousand goats and three thousand sheep.

While David and his men were at this place they kept watch over the shepherds and the sheep and made sure nothing of theirs was missing. Don’t forget the sheep dogs, person. I’m sure they watched the sheep dogs too.

Okay person, I’ll listen. Just don’t forget the sheep dogs next time.

David heard that Nabal was shearing sheep. This was always a festive time and since David and his men had helped Nabal’s shepherds, David sent ten of his men to Nabal to greet and bless him and ask for anything he could spare.

Did Nabal give David a sheep so he wouldn’t miss his own sheep so much? Maybe a sheep dog too?

He was? He did what? Listen to this. My person says Nabal was a mean man and not only did he not give David’s men anything – he insulted David as well. I’d give him what for, person.

All right! My person says that’s exactly what David intended to do. He told his men to put on their swords and go after Nabal and his men. About four hundred men went with David and he left two hundred men with the supplies.

What happened next, person? Did they get him?

No way! My person says that even though Nabal was a mean man he had a wife named Abigail who was beautiful and intelligent. One of the servants told her what had happened and she quickly loaded up a bunch of food onto donkeys and headed out to meet David. When she found him she talked him out of going after Nabal and asked David to leave everything up to the Lord, and David praised the Lord for stopping him from doing what he had planned to do.

When Abigail returned home that mean old Nabal was having a party and had gotten drunk so she waited until the next morning to tell him what had happened. When she told him his heart failed and he became like a stone. About ten days later the Lord struck him and he died. Serves him right.

When David heard that Nabal had died he praised the Lord for doing that and keeping him from doing it himself. Then, you know what David did? He asked Abigail to marry him. And she did.

Hey person, you know sometimes when I get mad at someone and I want to give them what for? Well, even if God gives them what for, I still want to give them what for too.

What is This Thing?

Bongo checking out the strange thingHey person, what is this thing?

It’s a what? A not supposed to be on the floor thing? What’s that?

It’s a I finally found another one so don’t wreck it thing?

What’s that supposed to mean? I just found it here on the floor. Oh, I get it. You don’t want me to wreck it. Why would I do that?

I chewed up the last one? How could I have done that? I’ve never seen one of these before.

The last one looked different? Then how could I have chewed one of these up if it wasn’t the same.

Person, you’re depriving me of some good chewing memories. I don’t remember chewing anything like this before.

The last one didn’t look the same but it was used for the same thing? What was it used for?

Separating eggs? Why would you ever want to do that? You just eat the egg all at once. Then you don’t need one of these strange looking things. I’ve got one more question for you, person.

Since you don’t really need this thing because it’s better to eat the egg all at once, can I chew it up now?

Frozen Tag, Anyone?

Staying in the YardHey person, there’s this game going around with my blogging friends called tagging, and I think I’m it. I’m supposed to answer some questions and then tag more blogging friends – but I think they’ve all been tagged already. I think that’s kind of like frozen tag. I’ve been tagged and I can’t move.

Person, I’m holding all these questions and I don’t know what to do with them. And now I’m getting cold because I’m frozen. I should do what? Answer the questions? I guess I could do that.

Misty Shores Chesapeakes, Bones Diary, Laurie Bartolo, and Collies of the Meadow all tagged me with these questions:

1.       Describe yourself in 7 words.

Fun loving (oops, that’s two words), playful, escape artist (did it again) energetic, inquisitive, jumper, slobbery

2.       What keeps you up at night?

Nothing – except thunder

3.       Who would you like to be?

I’m happy being me

4.       What are you wearing right now?

My collar – and a lot of hair that will be all over the carpet soon

5.       What scares you?

Thunder – I’m deathly afraid of thunder

6.       The best and worst of blogging.

The best is all the blogging buddies I’ve made – The worst is my person is on the computer when she should be taking me for a walk or feeding me.

7.       The last website I visited.

The ones that tagged me so I could make sure I had all the info right.

8.       What is one thing I would change about myself.

I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m perfect the way I am.

9.       Slankets yes or no.

I didn’t know what a slanket was until my friend Laurie googled it and found out it’s a blanket with sleeves. I’ll just take my bed, or a cozy spot on the carpet.

10.   Tell us something about the dog that tagged you.

Cheyenne, Riva, Maia, and Titan are four amazing Chesapeake Bay Retrievers on Misty Shores Chesapeakes. They are beautiful and fun loving brown dogs and I guess I can’t fault them for living with some cats too.

Bones is a border terrier who has all kinds of fun and loves to get into mischief. He lives with his brothers Alfie and Jess and loves to give them a bad time. He recently had his first birthday and is afraid of losing his puppyness, but those of us who know him know that won’t happen anytime soon.

Laurie Bartolo loves to take photographs of dogs and she travels around her neighborhood looking for dogs willing to model for her. If you haven’t seen her photography you’ve got to check it out. It’s really great.

You’ve never seen so many romping collies as you’ll see at Collies of the Meadow. Chuck shares the lives and love of his many collies – both present and past. It’s amazing to see the different personalities they all have.

Hey person, aren’t you forgetting something? Yeah person, I got some awards too.

I want to say a big thank you to all my blogging friends who honored me with awards.

ABC Award

Sandra Branum and Laurie Bartolo awarded me the ABC Award. Sandra has a lot of fun poetry on her blog and personal stories as well. Laurie has awesome dog photography.

One Lovely Blog Award

One Lovely Blog Award was given to me by Collies of the Meadow, Dianda with Catsnco, and Tylersat99. Catsnco has everything cat. Please don’t tell anyone I read a cat blog. The truth is Scratchy steals the computer and reads it. Mica and Lexie are the two dogs at Tylersat99. They are both Newfoundlands and they have trails almost as good as mine – maybe even better because they have a swimming hole on theirs. The collies are fun loving and have totally overtaken their house, but their dad wouldn’t have it any other way.

HUG Award

Misty Shores Chesapeakes and Bumpy Road to Bubba honored me with the HUG Award. Bumpy Road to Bubba is a beautiful blog about Mumma and her Bubba who recently had her first birthday. They also share their home with Bella and Beary, two beautiful dogs. Misty Shores Chesapeakes has wonderful photos and adventures of a bunch of beautiful, brown Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.

The Liebster Blog Award was awarded to me by Manipal’s Photo Blog. This is a fairly new blog that has some really wonderful photography. Please stop by and check this blog out.

I was also tagged by two other blogging friends – not dogs – and they gave me totally different questions so I’ll post those later. This post is getting long enough.

Hey person, you’re forgetting something else. You know, my blog roll?

No person, I don’t understand busy. Hurry up and get my friend’s links on my blog. At least you finally gave me my Facebook page. That took weeks. I hope nobody holds their breath because they might turn blue, but I’ll keep after my person to put up my blogroll.

You Call That Snow?

Bongo and a dusting of snowI have been waiting almost three months for some snow to play in. That’s how long it’s been since we had some. So I was really excited when my person told me the weather person said we should have snow overnight.

Yippee! Lots of fluffy, slippery white stuff to play in. I don’t even care if it’s cold. It’s so much fun. My favorite thing to do is drag my Frisbee around in it. It slides so much better in snow than it does in the dirt.

Well, this morning my person got up and let me outside, and what did I see? My yucca plants looked whiter. There was a little snow on the stairs. But on the ground – nothing, nada, kaput.

Somebody needs to talk to that weather person. How am I supposed to play in the snow if there’s none on the ground? This doesn’t even make sense. What good is snow if you can’t play in it? Why would it even bother coming if it’s not going to stick around and get deep?

Weather person, you’re just not doing your job. Next time you send snow you’ve got to send more of it. And if you don’t do that, I’m going to ask for a new weather person.

Detective Dog at Work

Bongo near some containers on a rockHey person, what’s that stuff?

It’s a what? A gas can and a container for chain saw lubricant? By why would someone leave those on my trails?

You’re supposed to know that, person. Don’t you know everything?

Then that means I have another mystery to solve. There seem to be a lot of mysterious things happening on my trails.

I think it means somebody took a chain saw out on my trails. But why?

What if they’re planning to cut down trees and steal them? I’d better keep an eye out for people carrying logs. They’d be easy to spot because they’d have a chain saw too.

Or maybe they’re scared of wild animals and brought a chain saw with them to defend themselves. I’d better warn all those mountain lions and javelina to stay away from those guys. Don’t attack the guy with the chain saw.

Oh no – what if – what if somebody watched too many scary movies and now they’re lurking on my trails with a chainsaw? Stay behind me person. I’d better protect you just in case.

Hey person, look at this. All the gas leaked out of the gas can. Those people who think they’re going to cause all that trouble with the chainsaw are going to be disappointed. They can’t start it because it’s missing all its gas.

Not My Fault

Bongo Heading Back on the TrailHey person, you’re going the wrong way. This way takes us back home sooner. We can take this trail.

You’re what? You’re not limping. Let’s go for a longer walk.

What do you mean, it’s my fault?

You could have let me off my leash yesterday so I could get to my swimming hole faster. So it was your fault. You didn’t let me off my leash.

Or you could have run down that steep trail. That way I wouldn’t have been pulling you.

I can’t help it if you started slipping on those loose rocks on that steep trail. I bet you would have slipped even if I wasn’t pulling you.

So I’m getting blamed and punished. Just because we got to go on a long hike yesterday you’re making me have a shorter walk today. No fair!

Oh look person. It’s my friend Timmy. Can I go over and say hi to him?

What? You mean if we had gone on our normal walk I wouldn’t have seen Timmy today? Yeah, I guess you’re right.

Timmy and Bongo

But person, he kissed me. And he’s not even a cute girl.
