A New Clue

Bongo sniffing something he foundHmmm. What’s this I’m finding on my trails? This is evidence, that’s for sure.

Now I’ve just got to figure out what kind of clue this is. Which mystery will it help me solve.

.

.

.

.

Detective Dog to the rescue!

Bongo looking snazzy with his Detective Dog hat on

Let me see what I can deduce with a sniff. Did you notice I’m starting to learn a lot of big detective words? Indubitably you did. My friend Jet would be proud of me.

Bongo sniffing what he found

Not much evidence here. The scent of some little hands, but which way did they go? Why did they leave this clue here? What is this stuff anyway? It’s tickling my nose.

Bongo looking at the star and ribbon

Speak to me blue star shaped thing with tickly stuff. Where did you come from? Who left you here? Why are you still sticking around?

Wait, wait! I think I’m getting something.

That’s it!

What am I thinking? I’ve got the wrong hat on.

This isn’t a clue to a mystery needing to be solved. This is an invite to a party!

Bongo with Dog Party Hat

Wait for me! I’m ready now.

Oh no! There’s nobody here.

What a drag. I’m all dressed up and nowhere to go.

Trail Barricade

Bongo with his leash across the trailToday was a beautiful day out on my trails. The weather was warm, the birds sang,

.

.

.

.

and airplanes flew about overhead.

Airplane

And lots of people passed us on the trail.

And my person kept pulling me aside so I couldn’t get any loves from them.

So I figured out a fix to that situation – but it only works when my person doesn’t see the other person first. Like when we’re going around a bend in the trail.

I’ve got to make sure I’m on the opposite side of the trail from my person. And I’ve got it.

Immediate trail barricade.

And I’m not moving until I get some loves.

One person thought I was totally innocent – that I had no idea I was blocking my trail. Little did she know that she was in my trap.

But my person is such a party poop. She yanked me over to her side of the trail and the trapped person escaped without even giving me a single love.

Somehow I’ve got to figure out how to get my person on my side.

Wait, I mean on the other side.

Now I’m confused.

Just remember to give me loves before I wrap you up in my leash.

Who Moved the Dirt?

Bongo in puddle spot with dirt spread outOh dear! Why is my Detective Dog hat always so far away when I need it? And why have there been so many strange happenings on my trails lately?

I was sauntering (did I say that word? Oh yeah, VBP – see below) along my trails, taking my person for a walk and minding my own business. We were coming to the place where my puddle hangs out and I was feeling really disheartened (VBP) because my puddle’s been missing for a long time.

When all of a sudden, I stopped in my tracks. My puddle is surrounded by bare rocks, but it usually leaves some dirt behind when it disappears. But now the dirt was trying to escape too. Or maybe it was the rock trying to cover itself up.

Whatever was happening, it was really strange. I’d better get to investigating and see what I can find.

Bongo sniffing for clues

Hmmm. I don’t think the dirt or the rocks were responsible. What is it I smell?

Bongo sniffing the dirt

Does this smell like boys maybe?

Well, that’s not fair. If boys were digging here why didn’t they invite me? I like to dig.

I’d better go find them.

Yup, this is it. I’m picking up some more clues.

Come on person, we’ve got to get going.

Bongo at the edge of the dirt spread

I think they went this way.

I’ve got to make those boys put all the dirt back in the puddle hole so I can dig it out with them.

Film Car

Bongo and a license plate that says Film CarCheck this out. Someone is looking for me. I bet they want to put me in the movies.

See that? It says Film Car. And people make movies here.

I bet someone told those people in the Film Car that these are my trails and they would find me hanging out here. And they’re looking for me now.

I wish they would have hung out by their car. Then they would have found me for sure.

But they’re not here. We’d better go find them. I wouldn’t want them to find another dog and think it was me.

***

Wait a minute, person.

What do you mean, we have to go home now?

But I haven’t found those people yet. The ones who want to put me in the movies.

Person, you’re ruining all my chances. My movie career is going down the tubes!

Film Car people, please come back again tomorrow. I’ll be out here for sure.

And wait by your car. I’ll be looking for you.

Bongo smiling in front of the "Film Car"

By the way, if my profile picture isn’t good enough for you, check out my face.

Don’t I have a winning smile?

Walking with Bunnies

Two Bunnies on leashesWait a minute! Wait just a minute! This is a dog blog. What are those bunnies doing on my blog?

***

My person left me for a long time today. And when she got home I smelled something on her.

It smelled kinda, sorta, a little bit familiar. Then I realized why.

It smelled like those wild bunnies that I chase sometimes on my trails. Or at least I try to chase. It’s kind of hard when you’ve got a person attached to your leash.

But even though the smell was like my trail bunnies, it wasn’t quite the same.

So my person had to admit it. She’d been petting bunnies. Bunnies on leashes!

She even had pictures to prove it.

Two bunnies on leashes

This got me really worried. What if my person decided she’d rather take one of those bunnies on a walk instead of me? What if she left me home and took a bunny?

My person said those bunnies were softer than me. And she said they had a job working as therapy bunnies in a nursing home.

And my person said those bunnies didn’t get into mischief like me.

That settles it! Who would want a pet that didn’t get into mischief? How boring would that be?

I was still a bit worried though that I might be ousted; until my person said she got me something to make up for petting those bunnies.

Different shaped dog cookies

Cookies!

And they look like cars, and bones, and cats, and pesky squirrels.

I already ate the pesky squirrel.

Hey Scratchy, I’m going to eat the cat next.

Do they have any cookies that look like bunnies?

Follow the Fish

200px-V&A_-_Raphael,_The_Miraculous_Draught_of_Fishes_(1515)

Hey person, is it true that Jesus went up to people and said “Follow me,” and they followed him? He must have had some pretty good treats with him or something.

What do you mean they left their fish to follow Jesus? How could you leave a good meal to follow anyone?

I’ll try to listen. I’m still thinking about all those fish.

Some of the disciples had been introduced to Jesus when they were hanging out in the wilderness with John the Baptist. John told the disciples that Jesus was the Lamb of God.

They talked with Jesus, but later went back to their homes in Galilee and were busy fishing when Jesus showed up.

Jesus saw Simon, called Peter, and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake. And he said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Fishers of men? If those men rubbed fish oil all over themselves I’d go fish for them. And I’d give them lots of big, slobbery kisses.

I’m listening.

Then Jesus walked a little further and he saw James and John in a boat preparing their nets with their father Zebedee. Jesus called James and John and they left their father with the boat and followed Jesus.

I bet they were just tired of working for their dad and wanted to have a good time.

What do you mean they didn’t always have a good time? All those miracles Jesus did? He even turned a little bit of food into enough to feed thousands of people. I bet those disciples always had all they wanted to eat. And good stuff too. Like fish.

Jesus said what?

Anyone who follows Him must deny himself and take up his cross daily?

What does that mean? Does that mean no treats or extra fish?

Oh. It means I have to go where Jesus wants me to go? I guess that’s not so bad. He hung out a lot with fishermen and sometimes he even helped them catch lots of fish – so I guess if I follow Jesus I’m following the fish.

Sign Down

Bongo next to a downed trail signThis is terrible! I think Detective Dog is going to be overworked. I just finished investigating that strange stuff on my puddles and now this!

I was on my way home from my trails when I spotted it. My trail sign is down on the ground.

How could this have happened? My dog friends won’t know how to find my trails anymore.

.

I guess I’d better check for clues.

Bongo sniffing the downed trail sign

Hmmm. Not much here.

Oh wait! More evidence. Check this out.

Bongo and a hole in the ground

A hole! I bet that’s what the sign came out of.

I’d better check out that hole.

Bongo sniffing the hole in the ground

Nope. No sign of any gophers or anything that might have pushed that sign out of the way. I don’t even smell a bunny rabbit.

This is going to require further investigation. I’d better go home and get my Detective Dog hat.

Bongo with Detective Dog hat covering his eyes

Oops. I’d better adjust this hat.

Bongo looking cool with his Detective Dog hat on

There, that’s better.

What did you say, person?

No, I didn’t. I did not knock that sign over so I could wear my Detective Dog hat. What do you think I am? Full of mischief or something?

Never you mind. I’m going back out there by myself.

Everybody stand clear. Detective Dog is here!

The Investigation Continues

Bongo looking cool with his Detective Dog hat onYesterday I, Detective Dog, was in the middle of an investigation when that strange stuff covering one of my puddles tried to steal my foot.

That stuff stole my main puddle and was working on my other puddle. I was looking for clues as to what it was and how I could get it to stop stealing puddles. I must have been getting close or it wouldn’t have tried to stop me.

Today was a much warmer day A good day to go out and continue my investigation. I took my person with me in case I needed someone to take notes. Yesterday there was some water left in one of the puddles that I could use to make marks on the rocks with – but who knows what I’ll find today.

After much trekking through my trails we finally arrived at the place where my puddles hang out.

My main puddle was missing – totally missing! And so was that strange white stuff. It had taken my puddle and run.

So I was a little scared to check out what happened to that other puddle. The one that had tried to steal my foot the day before.

But I did.

Puddle Missing Ice

And I discovered something really cool.

This puddle had won! It had managed to chase off that strange white stuff that had tried to steal it away.

I found a couple little pieces of the stuff, but it won’t have a chance against the puddle now.

And I can use it to further my investigation and maybe find out what happened to my other puddle.

Detective Dog does it again!

That stuff doesn’t have a chance.

Who Stole My Puddle?

Bongo investigation iceI was walking along on my trails and getting really excited because I had almost come up to my puddle – and I love to play in my puddle.

But something had happened. What’s this stuff that’s covering up my puddle? Strange looking white stuff.

It’s cold. And it breaks into little pieces when I step on it.

.

.

.

Bongo stepping on ice

Somebody stole my puddle and put this breakable stuff here in its place.

I think it’s time to put on my Detective Dog hat.

Bongo looking cool with his Detective Dog hat on

Maybe I’d better investigate the other puddle. That might give me some clues.

Bongo on the ice in a puddle

Oh, no. Look at this! There’s strange stuff here too. But it doesn’t look the same as that other stuff.

I’d better take some notes.

What am I talking about? I can’t write. Where’s my secretary?

Hey, check this out.

Bongo breaking through the ice in a puddle

There’s water under here. I can make notes with this water.

Bongo dripping water as he steps out of ice puddle

Wait a minute. This is not good.

I went back to get some more note taking material and this stuff on the puddle…

Bongo's foot stuck in the puddle

stole my foot!

I need to end this post before I really get into trouble.

Tune in tomorrow for the next exciting adventure!

Detective Dog Finds His Foot!

Hey person, I’m really stuck here. Can you help me out?

Walk Challenge

Bongo following behind his younger personOver the weekend I took both my person and my younger person for a walk at the same time. That was really a challenge because I only had one leash and I wasn’t sure how I was going to keep both of them in line.

My younger person has been hanging out at his computer for most of his break from school, and I figured since he wasn’t used to our walks he’d probably stick close. So I let him go off leash.

Yeah, I know there’s a rule that all people are supposed to be walked on a leash, but sometimes a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do.

We headed out and the first thing I had to do was convince my younger person that we were not going on a little five minute walk. This walking stuff is serious business and he’d better get used to it.

Then, a little while later he wanted to stick to the trails instead of scrambling over the rocks like I’m used to doing. I don’t think he understood that you have to go over the rocks to get to my puddle. That route is non-negotiable.

When I started to head into the wash I was really afraid my younger person was going to run off.

Younger person looking back at Bongo

Don’t You Run Off!

I had to follow him and go the other way because I thought I’d lose him.

Younger Person, you’ve got to understand – I’m supposed to be taking you for a walk – not the other way around.

I think I’m going to have to teach my younger person to heel before we go out for another long walk.
