Curly Competition

Curly dry grassI thought I was safe this time of year.

No wildflowers are blooming, so my person isn’t getting her camera out every few minutes and making me wait while she takes pictures.

So I couldn’t understand why she pulled her camera out.

I mean, it’s the middle of winter – well, I think it is. The calendar says it is.

So what is there to take pictures of?

Except me, of course.

And I wasn’t doing anything spectacular at the time.

Nothing to take pictures of anyway.

And then my person gets up close and personal – with a weed.

I guess she’s pretty desperate.

She wants to take pictures so bad that she’s even willing to take pictures of weeds.

Maybe she should get another hobby.

I think I ought to help her along.

No, not with another hobby.

I don’t want her doing anything else that would take her attention from me.

No, I’m going to help her along by doing away with her subject matter.

By eating it.

Camera Adventures

Bongo in Oak CreekI think I’m developing a love/hate relationship with my person’s camera.

Sometimes I get stuck at home because that camera gets first dibs on the picture hikes.

But today I got to go somewhere I rarely get to go – because my person wanted to take pictures for her class.

And it was fun.

First we stopped at my buddy Pablo’s house to pick up Pablo and his person. And now I’m really jealous.

I found out that Pablo has a creek near his house. And he doesn’t even care.

My person made me get out of the creek, and then we all got in the car and headed to a trail.

Not one of my trails, mind you. This was a different one.

Bongo, Pablo, and Pablo's person on Bell Rock

We got to climb up on Bell Rock.

Bell Rock

Right next to Courthouse Butte.

Courthouse Butte

But my person spent so much time taking pictures…

Sunset from Bell Rock

that I had to walk her back to the car in the dark.

It’s a good thing she brought me along. She might have gotten lost without me.

Waiting for the Camera

Two purple daisiesFinally!

My person let me go for a walk with her and her new camera.

Maybe it was because I helped her with her homework by jumping for all those pictures at the dog park.

Anyway, playing second fiddle to a camera is no fun. Now I’ve just got to figure out how to make that camera play second fiddle to me.

It’s okay to go on walks with that camera, but it’s much more fun without it.

I have to wait around while my person fiddles with the knobs and dials on that camera – and then finally takes a picture.

Purple flowers

And it’s never a picture of me.

Insect galls on scrub oak

What’s with all these strange things anyway?

They don’t even smell good.

And what makes it even worse is you can’t smell anything in a picture.

I’ll never figure out what people see in these pictures.

Guess I’ll just hang out here and wait.

My person will get tired of that non-smelly camera one of these days.

Too Many Cameras

Bongo next to a scrub oakI don’t get it. I just don’t get it.

My person has this new camera and she won’t let me go with her when she takes it

Something about me jostling her or knocking her over or something.

I wouldn’t do that. All my friends who know me know that I would never do anything like that.

Okay, maybe I did that once.

Well, twice then.

I did not do it that many times!

But since I’m not allowed to go out at the same time as that new camera, you’d think I’d at least get some camera free walks.

Walks where I can go wherever I please, sniff as long as I want, and never have to wait while my person takes pictures.

But no. My person still takes her little camera every time we go out for a walk.

If she just took pictures of me on our walks I wouldn’t mind so much. I mean, that’s why she takes the camera. So she can document (I think that word’s too big for me) my adventures for my blog.

But she always finds something else to take pictures of.

And it’s flower season again.

Keeping the Chair

Scratchy in a desk chairThe other day I told you about my new computer that my person said she got for her camera.

I was pretty upset that a camera that doesn’t even have a blog would get a computer before I would.

But now I’ve learned that that camera has some competition for the computer.

You see, for a long time now my person has just had a laptop and she didn’t use it at the computer desk.

So the chair at the computer desk has been sitting empty.

Or at least it was sitting empty until Scratchy decided to take it over.

That’s been Scratchy’s chair for a long time.

And it really must be his chair because when my person tries to squeeze in next to Scratchy on the couch he moves.

So she figured he’d move when she sat down on the edge of the computer chair while Scratchy was in it.

But he didn’t.

He stayed on that chair like it was his.

I guess it is his. I don’t want it. It’s much too small for me.

So I guess Scratchy figured that since a computer got put on the desk where his chair is, the computer must be his.

It serves that camera right.

Scratchy watching the computer from the chair

But Scratchy had better not get any ideas about taking over my blog.

What’s in my Wash?

Bongo next to a dry washWhenever we go out on my trails my person has her camera aimed and ready and she’s always looking for unusual things to take pictures of.

I wish she’d just enjoy the walk – I mean, nobody cares if there are pictures on my blog.

Unless they are pictures of me, of course.

But my person can take pictures of me when we’re at home. She doesn’t need to take her camera on my trails.

But this time my person really found something unusual to take a picture of.

It’s so unusual that I might have to run back home and get my Detective Dog hat to investigate what it might be.

This thing showed up at a spot where flowers often grow in the dry wash on my trails.

Oh yeah, for those of you who were wondering about the dry wash I couldn’t find recently – it showed up again. Funny how those things happen.

At first I thought this strange thing was another flower growing where the other flowers had been.

Morning glory beginning to open

But then when I looked at it closer I realized it wasn’t a flower at all.

I think it’s some kind of toy.

It’s a pinwheel!

Camera Computer

Bongo sitting in front of a futonMy person got me a great big computer to write my blog on.

I guess I’d better take back all the complaining I’ve been doing about her lately.

Like about that camera she got. The one that she takes out for walks and leaves me home alone.

But at least she got me a computer.

So now she can take her new camera for walks.

I’ll stay at home and write about all my adventures.

Wait a minute.

How can I have any new adventures if I’m staying at home all the time?

I mean, sometimes things happen at home, but they usually happen somewhere else.

This is bad. This is really bad.

Hey person, you’ve got to leave your camera at home and take me instead.

What good is my new computer if I’ve got no adventures to write about?

What?

What do you mean, it’s not my computer?

It’s in my house, isn’t it?

And I’m the one with the blog, aren’t I?

You got the computer for your new camera?

I don’t believe it!

You take the camera on walks instead of me, and now you got the camera its own computer.

What kind of a camera is this anyway? It doesn’t even have its own blog.

What would it need a computer for?

I’m going to have to do something about this.

Maybe I can go incognito and hide out in the computer.

Then when that camera comes to use it…

A picture of Bongo wearing sunglasses on a computer desktop

I’ll be ready to give the camera what for, and it won’t suspect a thing.

Walking Without Me

Cholla fruitI have a real complaint.

My person got a new camera.

And now she leaves me home alone once a week.

She says she has to learn how to use her new camera – so she’s taking a class.

Please don’t tell her that I go on walks with my neighbor dog Toby while she’s gone.

But that’s not really what my complaint is.

Now that my person is taking a class she says she has to do her homework.

I always thought homework was called that because you do it at home.

I think my person’s confused because she thinks she has to do her homework out on my trails.

And she doesn’t take me.

Person, I promise I won’t mess up your pictures.

I might yank on my leash a little, but the thing you’re taking a picture of is still there.

Just try again.

Oh, come on. It’s been a very long time since I’ve pulled you over because I wanted to get at a coyote.

I won’t wreck your camera.

But no – I can’t convince my person.

So now she takes two walks on my trails.

One with me.

Thunder Mountain with mist

And one to do her homework.

Coffeepot Rock

But here’s what’s really bad.

While my person was out on one of her homework walks…

Sugarloaf and dark clouds

she saw my girlfriend Layla.

And she left me at home.

The Hottest Day

Bongo on the trailToday was the hottest day of the year, so what did my person want to do?

She wanted to go outside and experiment with her new camera.

I don’t know why she couldn’t have waited until maybe October. When the weather’s nice.

So we had to spend extra time out in the heat today while my person fiddled with her camera and figured out how to change the settings.

And she still has her old camera. She could have taken that instead.

It’s really stupid why my person has a new camera.

She was taking me for a walk on my trails and taking pictures (she’s always doing that) and my younger person called so she was trying to take pictures and talk on the phone and she dropped her camera.

I was really excited when my person said her camera wouldn’t work – but what did she do? She ordered another one right away. She said she felt naked without her camera and this new one did more.

Well my younger person got her camera working again so now my person has two cameras. And she had to experiment with the new camera on the hottest day of the year.

Here I am panting away and my person’s taking pictures of…

Juniper Berries

Juniper berries, and…

Sedona Red Rocks

red rocks, and…

flowers gone to seed

dead flowers.

But I’ve decided I really don’t like this camera after she took this picture of me.

Fish bowl picture of Bongo

I hope that camera has a setting for suave and debonair.

Click of the Camera

Too CloseSince I started writing this blog my person has been taking lots of pictures of me. It’s really fun. Sometimes she gets down on the floor so she’s at the same level as me, but what I like the best are the sounds the camera makes.

When my person opens the camera case there is a special ripping kind of sound that always gets my attention. My person says that’s the sound of Velcro tearing apart. Whatever it is, if I’m not in the room already I always come running.

The next best sound is the click the camera makes when my person takes a picture. I think that click means go to the camera and climb all over my person. My person laughs when I do this, but then she makes me go back and do the same pose all over again. I don’t get it.
