Silly String

Bongo covered with Silly StringI think my younger person tried to tie me up. He had this can and he started spraying stuff out of it.

That stuff looked like string, and he sprayed it all over me.

I know he wanted to tie me up, but I guess my younger person underestimated me.

That string couldn’t hold a lick to me. I could break right through it, piece of cake.

Did I say cake? Is there cake around here?

Oh. Never mind.

Back to that string.

.

Bongo looking at Silly String on the floor

I wrestled that string to the floor. And there it lay.

Now what?

Scratchy likes to play with string. And he’s not as strong as me.

I could get him interested in playing with that stuff and then wrap him up in it.

He’d be wrapped like a cocoon before he knew what hit him.

Hey, wait!

What’s my younger person doing?

Bongo looking up with string on his back

Why’d you put the string up there?

I Didn’t Do It

Bongo near a knocked over trash canI don’t get it. Why would my person think I did this? I was just trying to tell her what Scratchy did while she was gone.

I would never knock over that garbage can. Why would I do that? I know how to open the can so why would I knock it over?

Oops. I mean, Scratchy knows how to open the can.

Sometimes there’s nothing good that I can reach though. It’s all down in the bottom.

Well I had to try reaching it because Scratchy couldn’t. I was only helping him out.

Bongo, a downed trash can, and garbage on the floor

What’s that stuff on the floor?

Scratchy put it there. Besides, you didn’t want it anyway.

Scratchy, I told you that you should have finished that stuff off. Then no one would know what you did.

What do you mean, I have a guilty look?

I’m not guilty.

Wait, wait! Is this better?

Do I look innocent now?

Don’t Steal My Blog

Lizard on the rock in the shadeI think somebody is trying to take over my trails. And steal my blog. And become the center of attention.

How dare this creature pose for the main picture in my blog post? That spot should always be reserved for me.

At least that creature is small. Maybe all anyone sees is a rock and a bunch of branches. Maybe that little thing blends in with the background.

***

Now that the weather is getting warmer, lizards have been scurrying around on my trails.

I don’t even bother trying to chase them. They run right off and hide before I even get near.

We have the wimpiest creatures on my trails. The only ones willing to get near me are my dog friends – and the people, of course.

All the creatures that live on my trails run off at the mere thought that someone might be coming too close. Even the birds fly off when we get near – as if we could ever catch them up a tree.

Maybe I should bring Scratchy on my trails with me. He could climb up the tree after those birds and then when they fly off he’d be stuck there.

Hey, great idea. Why didn’t I think of that before?

But where was I going with this?

Oh yes, that lizard.

It’s a good thing he does run off so easily.

He’s going to have a hard time taking over my blog if he’s running off to hide in the bushes.

Now to go get Scratchy.

Berry Load

Bongo with his nose deep in bushesI’ve got to investigate these Manzanita bushes to see what they’re up to this year.

You see, earlier this year they had lots of blossoms. More than I remember seeing on these bushes.

.

.

.

.

Manzanita bush in bloom

But then all those blossoms did something really strange. They turned into little apples all over the bushes.

Manzanita bush full of berries

I’ve never seen these bushes so covered before. You’d think my trails were one giant apple berry.

I’m going to have to figure out what to do with all these berries.

I wonder if they make good toys. Maybe I could play catch with them.

But once my person tosses them to me and I catch them – what if they don’t taste good. That could be a disaster.

Scratchy likes little roly things. Maybe I could take some of them home and roll them on the floor for him. That would probably occupy him for a whole minute or so. Then he’d probably want me to roll them around for him some more.

No, I guess that’s not a good idea either.

I wonder if my person could make something out of these berries? Are they edible?

They are?

If they’re edible there must be recipes for them. Get online person, and find some.

They don’t taste very good? What does that matter? If they’re edible you’ve got to eat them.

Not me. I don’t have to eat them. Berries aren’t dog food.

Okay, here it is. My person found the instructions for making Manzanita Cider. http://honest-food.net/2010/08/22/manzanita-cider/

Okay person, get busy and make that cider. The days are starting to get warm. You can put ice in the cider to cool off. I’ll just take the plain ice cubes.

What do you mean, you’re not going to make that cider yet?

You’re going to wait until those berries ripen?

You mean – oh no. That means I have to do another berry post later this summer. A sitting out and drinking cider kind of post.

Somehow I think my person tricked me into that one.

Scratchy, here’s some berries. Why don’t you roll them around on the floor for awhile.

Stuck

Bongo behind couches with a tennis ballSometimes I miss when I’m trying to catch the ball. The other day it bounced off my nose and landed right next to Scratchy. And Scratchy wouldn’t throw the ball back to me. I’ve really got to train that cat better.

This time the ball bounced off my nose and landed in the corner. There used to be enough room between the couches for me to squeeze through, but for some reason that space disappeared. I managed to get behind those couches though and retrieve my ball.

But now I have another problem.

.

Bongo stuck behind the couches

I got my ball out, but now how do I get out?

Bongo looking for a way to get out from the couches

There must be a way to get from here to there.

Bongo looking at the floor on the other side of the couch

That floor looks so close – and yet so far away.

It can’t be that hard. I manage to get over the fence in the backyard. This would be so much easier except I don’t have room to get a running jump.

Oh wait, this will work.

Bongo climbing over the couches

And you thought I’d never make it, didn’t you?

Toss the Ball

Scratchy with a tennis ballOne of my favorite games is catch. I’ll bring a ball to my person when she’s sitting on the couch – especially if she’s talking to someone on the phone. Then I patiently wait for her to toss the ball back to me.

And if my patience wears thin because my person won’t toss back the ball I bring her another one. I figure if her lap gets filled with balls she’ll eventually have to toss them away.

And that’s when I catch them.

But this time I decided to do something different.

Instead of catching the ball I bounced it back – right to Scratchy.

But I forgot one thing. Scratchy never wants to play.

Scratchy sat right next to that ball and ignored it.

Bongo waiting for Scratchy to toss him the ball

Come on Scratchy. I’m waiting for the ball.

Bongo eagerly waiting for Scratchy to toss the ball

Scratchy, I’m still waiting. Aren’t you going to toss that ball back to me?

This is terrible. I just realized something.

Scratchy thinks that ball is his now. He’s never going to give it back to me.

How can I convince Scratchy that that ball belongs to me?

Maybe I can bring Scratchy a treat and he’ll trade me the ball for the treat.

Here Scratchy, want to trade?

Oh wait, never mind. Scratchy, you can have that old ball. This is the best treat ever.

Pet Owner’s Day

Bongo SleepingFinally, my person came and brought me home from the dog hotel. But I think she had an ulterior motive when she got me.

You see, today is Pet Owner’s Day. I think my person came and got me because she thought I would treat her special today. I bet if it wasn’t Pet Owner’s Day my person would have let me just sit in the dog hotel. Who knows when she would have come to let me out.

My person probably thinks I’m going to get her something special for Pet Owner’s Day. She probably thinks I’m going to get her a special treat – like chocolate or something. And she probably thinks I’m going to do special things for her – like take her on an extra long walk or something.

Well, I’ve got a surprise for her. Because I found a new friend at the dog hotel and she played with me – a lot.

I had great fun with my new friend, but now I’m totally worn out.

So that extra long walk isn’t coming – and I need that chocolate more than my person does.

So my person is out of luck this Pet Owner’s Day. Unless, that is, she can get Scratchy to do something special for her.

I’m going to take a nap.

Neighbors

Bongo in the houseSome strange things have been happening around my house lately. I’m used to strange things happening on my trails, but usually my house is pretty normal.

Well, unless Scratchy starts acting up.

I think he may have been acting up because lately, whenever my person and I go out the front door a bird or two quickly flies away.

This has never happened before – at least not on a regular basis. We have big trees in our yard and the birds that hang out in them are usually not bothered when we leave the house. They’re so much higher than us that they know they’re safe.

That’s why I’m thinking that Scratchy may be working on some kind of trap for those birds. I’d better keep an eye on him when I leave the house. I think he may be trying to sneak out with me, hoping that the birds won’t notice.

Scratchy at the open door

Scratchy! You leave those birds alone.

I was ready to give Scratchy what for when my person noticed something. She said we had some new neighbors.

And then she said they might even be planning to raise a family nearby.

I’m not sure what my person is talking about, but I sure hope if they have little ones that they’re puppies. Puppies would play with me. But I hope the little ones aren’t kittens. Scratchy would probably teach them to go after those birds.

What, person? What baby birds? I haven’t seen any baby birds around here.

Oh that? That’s what that is? The birds’ built a nest on our rafter?

I just thought somebody was stuffing their spare straw up there.

Midnight Mischief

Scratchy in the doorwayYesterday I had to put off my mischief story because I had so many other things to say. So today I’m going to tell you about the mischief maker – and this time it wasn’t me.

All last week my person was working on a paper mache empty tomb, and for some reason she wouldn’t let me alone in the room with that tomb. She doesn’t seem to trust me or something. Just because I knocked it on the floor and ate the paper mache stuff off of it. I don’t know what the problem is. My person fixed it.

At night she was shutting the door to her bedroom – with me inside – so I couldn’t go out and eat be near that tomb without her knowing about it.

Scratchy wasn’t very happy about this. He likes to come and go as he pleases and he really dislikes being locked inside the bedroom at night.

So one night Scratchy came to the closed door and started making noise like cats do and clawing on the carpet. My person opened the door and when he got up on the bed she shut the door again.

This made Scratchy mad and he wanted right back out. My person let him out since he was making such a ruckus and then she shut the door.

Scratchy didn’t like that either. He wanted that door open. He kept bugging us until my person opened the door again.

He didn’t want to come in, but he wanted to be able to come in.

Of course, this left me with access to that tomb.

But I didn’t want to eat that thing. It tasted terrible the first time.

Scratchy or the Snake

Bongo and ScratchyThis is kind of a sad story for an adventure, but a dog’s got to do what a dog’s got to do.

You see, my person still didn’t take me for a walk today. But it was a really nice day so she thought maybe we could go sit out in the yard for awhile.

That worked pretty good. It felt really great to lie and soak up the sun.

But then my person thought maybe Scratchy would like to come out too.

I don’t know what she was thinking. She was breaking her own rules. Scratchy’s not allowed outside.

But my person said Scratchy doesn’t run off anymore so she knew he would stay in the yard.

So she brought him out and sat him on her lap. If you’re wondering what that black blob is in front of my handsome face, you guessed it. It’s Scratchy.

Scratchy being on my person’s lap meant he was getting more attention than me so I decided to give Scratchy some attention. I went over and kissed him – right on his face – a bunch of times.

Scratchy eventually took a dive off my person’s lap and then I went after him some more and he ran back in the house.

Now I could have all the attention again, but that meant I no longer had Scratchy to harass.

So you know what I did? I went in and brought out my snake. My snake’s good for a harassment or two.

Bongo playing with a toy snake

But my person spoiled all the fun. She made me take my snake back inside.

It’s no fun harassing a snake in the house.
