About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Tangled with Excitement

Bongo Tangled in his LeashI finally saw it. And I got so excited I got all wound up – and now I’m tangled up.

Bongo and a few red leaved mixed in with the green

Do you see it? You might have to look really hard. Behind me.

I’ve been looking all over for this. I’ve heard about it this time of year. Some places get tons of it, but on my trails it’s hard to find.

All the trees around here are green, and they stay green all year. The only things that have a lot of red on them are the rocks, and they stay red all the time. They don’t suddenly explode in red at certain times of the year.

So I’ve been looking everywhere for some fall colors. My person says there are some in other parts of Sedona, but on my trails they’re hard to come by.

So I’ve been looking, and I finally found the spot. It was hard to find. It’s not on the main part of my trails. But I found it.

The fall color spot.

At least, the fall color bush.

Well, the fall color part of a bush.

Anyway, here you have it.

A few read leaves

A few red leaves

Happy fall everyone!

Long Things and Square Things

Artists in the WoodsI see the strangest things on my trails sometimes, but today I found people doing strange things. Usually the people I see are busy walking on the trail, but these people weren’t. I’m not sure what they were doing, but I guess my person wanted to know too so we went over to investigate.

Sorry person, you cannot share my Detective Dog hat with me. That’s for me alone, even if you do help me with the investigation.

We wandered off the trail and went over to where these people were, and we found a bunch of guys mixing colors with long things and then wiping the long things onto some square things.

It didn’t make any sense to me but my person talked to them and found out the guys were part of the Sedona Plein Air Festival.

I’m not sure what that festival is, but I always thought we had pretty nice air here. I didn’t know it was plain. And why would people want to have a festival for plain air anyway?

We hung around for awhile and my person talked to the guys and looked at their square things with the color on them. I’m not sure what she was looking at. I think they had used up all their rags and those square things were all they had left to wipe stuff off on.

But then something happened and I decided that having a festival for our plain air wasn’t so bad after all.

Sneaking Out?

Bongo with stuff in the middle of the floorThere’s somebody in my yard. And they’re not supposed to be there.

It’s some of those coyotes – or javelinas.

And I’m going to get ‘em.

I’ve got to be quiet though. If I start barking I’ll wake up my person and then I’ll never get to them.

They’re out this way. Maybe I can get through this window. I’ve got to get up on this table to get to it.

Oops, I knocked the stuff down. I’ll just drag this pillow and the sheet to the center of the room so it’s out of the way. The note cards can stay where they fell. They’re little. I don’t think my person will notice them there.

This window’s not working. I can’t seem to get through it. What about the door? No luck here, but I messed up the doormat. I’d better put it in the pile too.

Hey, wait a minute. I think there’s a secret way out through the bathroom. Let me check.

What’s this bathmat doing in my way? I bet it’s covering the secret entrance. I’d better get it out of here.

Nothing.

I’ve got one more option and these boxes are in front of this window. How am I going to get them out of here?

Wow! They tear apart pretty easily.

Oh oh. I hear my person. She never comes out to this room in the middle of the night. What kind of coincidence is that? I didn’t bark or anything so there’s no way she could know I was here.

Hey person, I’m sure glad you decided to come out here. Check it out. I was just straightening up a few things for you.

Quail in the Desert

Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Hey person, haven’t Moses and all those Israelites been hanging around Mt. Sinai a long time? Are they stuck there forever?

He did? My person says that God gave Moses the instructions for building a tabernacle, and they hung around Mt. Sinai while they were building it. And when they got it done the Lord covered it with a cloud, and at night the cloud looked like fire so they could still see it.

Wow! Was that kind of like a bonfire over the tabernacle? Could they roast wieners in it?

I’m listening, person.

Finally, after about a year, the cloud lifted. That was the signal for the Israelites to set out.

So the Israelites broke camp and headed out, but after about three days they started complaining. They were tired of the manna they’d been eating for the last year. They wanted meat.

I guess they’ve got to follow that cloud so they can roast wieners again.

What do you mean that’s not in the story? They wouldn’t be whining if they could roast wieners.

Okay, I’ll listen.

God got angry with the people for complaining, and Moses was totally frustrated. Moses told God he didn’t want to put up with the whiners anymore. They wanted meat and he couldn’t give it to them.

So God told Moses to tell the people to get ready to eat meat, because he was going to give them meat for a whole month – so much meat that they would get sick of it.

I would never get sick of meat. Can I go where all that meat is?

Oh, it was a long time ago? Can you give me some meat then?

I am listening. But I could listen better if I had some meat to chew on.

Moses couldn’t see how there would be enough meat for all those people for a month, but God assured him that He could do it. He sent a wind to drive quail in from the sea and it brought quail down all around the camp to about three feet above the ground. There were quail as far as a day’s walk in any direction.

But the Lord’s anger burned against the people who had complained and He struck them down with a severe plague.

Hey person, that plague sounds nasty. I wasn’t complaining about meat. I only asked nicely. But I’m perfectly happy with my dog food.

But you could give me some meat if you feel like it.

You’re Not Supposed to Yell

Bongo Leading the WayI don’t believe it! I just got back from the dog hotel – again. And this time my person didn’t give me enough warning so I could put it on a blog post. I mean, she didn’t even get her suitcase out until after she dropped me off. Of all the nerve! I wanted everybody to feel sorry for me – but how can you feel sorry for me if you don’t know what’s going on?

At least she picked me up after only a couple days this time. But then she kept yelling at me. You think she’d be really excited to see me – but she yelled at me instead. I got so excited when I got into the car that I started loving on the back seat – and my person yelled at me for it.

And then, after we got home, I got caught red pawed. My person went outside to get the mail and I figured since Scratchy hadn’t eaten all his food in the whole time I was gone that I’d do him a favor and finish it up for him. My person came back in the house while I was just getting started.

Come on, person. You take pictures of everything else. Get your camera out and take a picture of me with my paws up on the counter. That’ll give me time to finish this.

But, no – my person wouldn’t go for it. Sorry, Scratchy. I guess you’re going to have to eat that old food.

Then to make matters worse, my person made me take her for a walk before I had a chance to take a nap. Something about it getting dark soon. I could have led her just fine in the dark. I got her back though, because I got some good loves on the trail and she didn’t get any.

Jet Trails

Sedona Sunset with Jet TrailMy trails are not the highest trails around. They’re underneath another set of trails. Jet trails.

Lots of jets fly over my trails. You can see where the setting sun is lighting up one of the  jet trails in the top of this picture.

Usually those jets don’t bother me – I hardly notice them at all. Except when it’s cloudy outside. I guess they figure that I can’t see them, and they want to make sure I know they’re there anyway. So they turn up their jet noise, and it sounds a lot like thunder.

When that happens I have to calm my person down. She gets all excited when she thinks it’s thunder, and I’m afraid she’s going to grab me by the leash and drag me home. I have to convince her that it’s not thunder at all.

But there are a few of those flying things that don’t seem to understand that they have to stay on the trails. I get in trouble if I wander off the trail. Shouldn’t all the flying things stay on their trails too?

Helicopter and Cloud Buildups

This one looks like it’s having a race with the clouds. I’m not sure who’s going to win, but I bet if that flying thing stayed in the jet trails the clouds wouldn’t have a chance.

Biplane and Contrail

I can see the jet trail in this picture and this flying thing is way off of it. Actually, I think this flying thing lost its way in time too. There must be a time warp somewhere in those jet trails, and I bet this flying thing popped out of it and got confused.

Hot Air Balloon

Wait a minute! This one looks like it’s trying to come down and steal my trails. I hope someone tells these flying things that if they want to be flying things, they’ve got to fly.

Cactus Maintenance

Bongo eating weeds near cactusHey person, don’t worry. This cactus isn’t going to attack me.

Yeah, I know my ear is getting kind of close to it. But believe me, it’s not going to attack.

I’ve got to clear out all these weeds in front of it. This cactus is really special and it doesn’t want to be covered up.

Just a little bit longer, person. You can go ahead and go if you want. Don’t worry, I’ll catch up with you.

Fine, you can wait here if you want, but I’m not quite done. Just a few more bites.

Okay, I’m just about finished.

See, I told you this cactus wouldn’t hurt me. Can’t you see? It loves me.

Looking for Litter Bugs

Bongo Looking for Litter BugsWhere are they? I know I heard them talking. I even caught a glimpse of them, but now they’re not here.

Where did they go?

I saw them, I know I did. Those litter bugs that were here the other day. The ones whose trash I had to carry to the garbage can.

I’ve got to find them and give them what for. They even left some more trash behind.

.

.

Bongo Looking for Litter Bugs

They’ve got to be hiding around here somewhere. I bet they saw me coming and knew they were in for it. As soon as I find them I’m turning them in to the Litter Police – after I give them what for, that is.

***

I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find them anywhere. I guess they’re better at hiding themselves than they are at hiding their litter.

I’d better head home and look for them another day.

Litter Bugs

I know they’re out there somewhere.

Loose Latch

Bongo in the GarageMy person doesn’t know it, but the screen door going out to the garage doesn’t latch tight. And I’m not going to tell her.

Usually this doesn’t do me any good because the regular door is closed. But this time she left that door open and she went outside.

Now’s my chance. My food is kept in the garage. I’m going for it!

I pushed the door open and started munching on the nuggets that had been spilled, when I heard voices. It was my person and my neighbor – right on the other side of the garage door.

I went over to check out what was going on. They were probably talking about me – thinking I couldn’t hear them.

What!? Not a single mention of me.

And then I realized I was stuck in here – in the dark. And if I said something my person would know and I would get in trouble. And I was getting really full of message juice.

I guess this door needs one of my messages anyway. It’s not like I’m inside the house – and besides, my person will never know. She can hardly smell anything.

Water leaking out of the garage

I don’t have any idea how that water got there, person.

Shopping Without Me

Bongo on the TrailShe did it again. For the second day in a row my person left me – for a long time. Yesterday she hung out with her sister and didn’t take me along. Today she mumbled something about going shopping with my younger person.

I want to go. I like shopping. You are shopping for dog food, aren’t you? I haven’t seen my younger person in a long time.

I couldn’t convince my person to take me so there we were again. Just Scratchy and me. Scratchy’s no fun so I decided to take a nap.

I must have slept for a long time when all of a sudden I heard a key turning in the door lock. Funny, I hadn’t heard my person’s car pulling up. I always wake up for that.

Guess what!? It was my neighbor – and he took me for a walk on my trails. My neighbor is the coolest.

I was a little afraid my person would come home and wouldn’t know where I was – but when we got back – still no person.

Finally she showed up. It was late and dark. And then, you know what?

My younger person showed up in a different car. I hadn’t seen this car before. But I think it was really happy to have my younger person driving it.

This new car smiles.
