About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Trail Lost and Found

Hat on a rockMy person says that lots of places have a special department called Lost and Found. My trails have one of those departments too.

There’s a special rock at the beginning of my trails and when people find something that was dropped they take it to the special rock and leave it there.

Most people come out the same way to get back to their car or their house. Sometimes they find what they dropped at the Trail Lost and Found.

But sometimes the people are just as lost as the thing they lost. Sometimes they are lucky just to find their car and when they do they are so happy to have found it again they go right past the Trail Lost and Found without seeing their lost stuff.

I’m not sure what to do about this. If too much stuff piles up in the Trail Lost and Found the wind is going to move it to a new place and the Trail Lost and Found will be lost until we find it again.

And if we don’t find it soon enough a pack rat might take all the lost stuff to pad its nest. Then we might never find the Trail Lost and Found and it will be lost forever.

I think I’d better do something about this. I could get rich while I’m at it. I’ll stand guard at the Trail Lost and Found until the lost people come and find their stuff. Then I’ll charge them lots of loves for guarding their lost stuff until they found it.

Living with Bongo

Scratchy on the cabinetsThis is Scratchy here. It’s been a long time since I’ve stolen Bongo’s blog written a post. Bongo’s sleeping in the other room right now so I’m taking advantage of it.

Bongo says I’m not adventurous enough to write anything on his blog – well, let me tell you – living with Bongo is adventure enough some days.

The other day Bongo brought that little dog Houdini over here to play. Those two were so energetic they almost ran me right into the trash can. I beat feet out of there as quick as I could and jumped on top of the kitchen cabinets where I was safe.

I used to hang out on top of those cabinets a lot, but lately I hadn’t been up there much. I’d forgotten how nice it is, and I’ve been hanging out on them more often lately. I can see all over and nobody can touch me.

The best part is being able to keep an eye on Bongo. I can see everything he does when our people leave, and when they come back home I make sure they know about it.

And Bongo can’t do anything about it.

Clean Bill of Health

Bongo getting love from the vet technicianWoo woo! My person took me to the vet first thing this morning for treats and loves. I love it when she does that.

I did have to put up with my vet poking things in my ear, but at least she didn’t put a stick up my rear end this time.

.

.

.

.

.

.

When my vet got done poking things in my ear she left – and so did the other lady with her. Wait a minute! Where’s all my treats and loves? I haven’t had enough yet.

Bongo waiting at the door

I waited at the door for them until they finally realized they hadn’t given me all the treats and loves they were supposed to give me, and they came back in. They gave me more treats and loves and my vet said my ear infection is gone. Yippee!

Oh. Wait a minute. Does that mean no more trips to the vet? No more treats and loves?

Hey person, you’d better make up for that. If you’re not taking me back to the vet I need extra treats and loves from you.

Red Things and Round Balls

Bongo and a bush with red flowersI was walking along my trails today and I noticed that things had changed. Yesterday in this spot there were a bunch of green leaves here.

Today, those green leaves have red things poking out all over. I sniffed around trying to figure out where those red things were coming from, but I couldn’t figure it out. I guess I’d better put on my detective hat.

.

.

.

Manzanita bush with berries

While I was still pondering all those red things I found these little round balls all over the Manzanita bushes. These are the same bushes that had flowers on them in January. Where have all the flowers gone? I’m not sure but I think those little round balls took them away.

Flowers hanging on juniper tree

Detective Dog is getting really flustered now. Red things and round balls. What next? I walked on a little way and almost stopped in my tracks. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, right on my trails. Juniper trees don’t have flowers, but this one had flowers hanging all through it. I’m not sure if I can get to the bottom of this one. I might have to climb that tree to do it. Maybe if I’m really nice to Scratchy he’ll climb it for me.

Symphony of Daisies

I was about ready to give up and go home. Too many mysteries for me. Then I saw it. A symphony of daisies with a globe mallow conductor. Maybe they can sooth my troubled brain to sleep with their music.

Who’s the Boss?

Drawing of Little Dog BarkingI hope none of my blogging friends who are little dogs get offended by this, but today I was minding my business on my trails when a little dog walked by. And you know what that little dog did? That dog barked and barked at me as if he was the boss and he could take me on.

Well, I finished putting my scent on a bush and then I decided I was going to show that little dog who was really the boss. After all, I could walk right over that dog and not even notice he was there – except for the barking, that is.

So I decided not to waste any time and headed for that little dog full speed. I didn’t make it. Boing! I hit the end of my leash. And all this time that little dog kept barking at me.

Okay person, I guess you’re the boss today – but your arm is going to be sore tomorrow.

Oh, and person, we need to have a talk about not humiliating me in front of little dogs. This could really spoil my reputation.

He’s Coming!

the Conversion of Saul on the road to Damascus...

the Conversion of Saul on the road to Damascus as painted by Michelangelo. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

My person says that around the time that Jesus was crucified there was a person living in Jerusalem named Saul. Saul was a Pharisee and he believed that the people who followed Jesus were going against God.

Hey person, what’s a Pharisee? Is that something like a fairy with good eye sight?

A Pharisee was a what? A religious leader? Wasn’t Jesus a religious leader? How come Saul thought Jesus’ followers were going against God?

Most of the Pharisees didn’t think Jesus was the messiah? Then they didn’t have very good eye sight at all. Maybe they should change their name to the Phariblinds.

Okay person, I’m listening.

My person said that Saul stood by and approved the stoning of Stephen, one of Jesus’ disciples, and then he wanted to go after all of Jesus’ followers in Damascus.

I hope somebody warns those disciples that Saul is coming.

They what? They were warned, but they didn’t need to be? I don’t get it.

Jesus took care of everything? He did? Did he send dogs on ahead to bark a warning?

Okay, I’m listening. Really.

When Saul was on the road to Damascus a light from heaven flashed around him and a voice said, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

Saul asked who it was and Jesus said it was him. Then Jesus told Saul to get up and go into the city and he would be told what he must do.

Saul got up and when he opened his eyes he couldn’t see anything. See, I told you he was a Phariblind.

The men with him had to lead him by hand into Damascus and he didn’t eat or drink anything for three days.

Then the Lord came to a disciple named Ananias in a vision and told him to go where Saul was staying and restore his sight. Ananias knew who Saul was and why he had come to Damascus, so he protested.

I guess that dog must have barked his warning to Ananias.

I am listening, person.

The Lord told Ananias that Saul was his chosen instrument so Ananias went and restored his sight, and something like scales fell off Saul’s eyes.

Does that mean Saul wasn’t a Phariblind anymore?

The Lizards are Back

Lizard on a RailThe lizards are back! Two of them went scurrying along my trails today. I hadn’t seen any since last summer.

I wonder where those lizards go in the winter. Some birds go away in the winter and others fly through here. Maybe the lizards follow the birds. I guess that might be kind of hard though. If there was a mountain they would have to climb all the way up it and then back down the other side. Those birds might get way ahead of them and then the lizards would be lost.

Maybe those lizards are scared of snow creatures so they hide in the winter. We didn’t have many snow creatures come out this winter though, so the lizards wouldn’t have had to hide as long as they did.

Once my person picked up a rock in the winter and found a lizard hiding under it. There weren’t any snow creatures around. It must have lost the birds it was following – or maybe it was hiding from me.

I won’t hurt you little lizard. You can come out and play.

I never seem to be able to catch those lizards anyway.

Bird Disturb

Bongo Sniffing in the WashI was hanging out in the wash on my trails and I’d found some really good smells. I sniffed around and was really enjoying myself when out of the tree next to me came a big whoosh. A large bird went flying off.

That is pretty nervy of that bird to disturb my sniffing. After all, I was just really getting into it. And to make matters worse, my person got out her camera and drug me away from my smelly spot toward the tree that bird had landed in.

Not only had the bird disturbed me but my person had totally ruined my sniffing. I don’t even know why my person got out her camera. There’s no way she’s going to get close enough to get a good picture.

Hey bird! Shoo! Go fly away. Then I can go back to my sniffing.

I guess that bird decided it would side with me because it flew off again when we started getting close. Now I can get back to my sniffing.

Hey person, that’s the wrong way. My sniffing spot’s back that way. The way we came from before that bird flew off.

Next time I’m going to glue that bird’s feet to the tree.

Who Dumped the Dirt?

Bongo Sniffing a Dirt PileHey person, someone dumped a pile of dirt on this cactus. Why would they do that? I’m going to have to get to the bottom of this.

.

.

.

.

.

Look, here’s another pile.

Dirt Pile

And they tried to pile up more dirt on this other plant. At least they missed that cute little cactus over there.

Dirt Pile

Oh, no. I think the culprit went down this hole. Now how will I find out who did it? If I try to dig whoever it is out, they might go down deeper, and anyway I would be spreading more dirt around.

I think I’ll just wait here and see who comes out.

Hole in the Ground

Check it out person. I’ve found the guilty party. It must have taken this beetle a long time to pile up all this dirt.

Looking for Loves

Smiling Bongo at the Vet's OfficeHey person, if I tell everybody they’re going to feel sorry for me. Then they might give me hugs and loves.

Okay, that settles it. I’m telling them.

My person took me to the vet today. It wasn’t my regular check up time but something was bothering me. I didn’t mind too much though, because I love going to the vet. I always get lots of loves and treats there.

Well, they did stick a stick up my rear end. I’m not sure why they did that and I didn’t like it very much.

Then they started poking around in my ear and that hurt a little. Well, one of my ears hurt when they did stuff to it. The other one was okay.

Then they gave me lots of loves and treats. Lots of treats. Then after dinner my person gave me more treats.

Bongo getting loves

My person says I get extra treats for a few days and then I get to go back to the vet for more loves and treats.

Oh, I think I just messed up this story. I made it sound too good and nobody’s going to feel sorry for me.

Hey person, my ear hurts really bad. I think I need some more treats to make it feel better. And could you give me some extra loves too?
