Follow the Leader

Bongo's profileI must really be a leader.

Because today my blog has 1000 followers.

One thousand dogs, and people – and cats – and a few other animals following me.

Of course, some of them say they’re following me but they’re not.

Well, they sort of are.

But if they were really following me wouldn’t I have at least one thousand people and animals reading my posts every day?

And I don’t.

I guess a follower or two dropped off somewhere along the wayside.

.

***

Hey, I know a way to get all those followers following me.

I’ll give a guided tour of my trails.

Bongo on the trail

And invite all of my followers to come along.

I’m sure they’ll all show up for that.

Wouldn’t that be cool?

One thousand people and animals all following along on my trails.

I’m setting the date for tomorrow.

So come on over and get in line.

The first one here gets to step in right behind me.

And I’ll show you what it’s like to follow the leader.

Left Behind

Bongo wanting out of dog jailThis is bad.

This is really bad.

My people have been so full of mischief that I can’t even wait until Monday Mischief to post it.

I’ve got to get it off my chest now.

I’ve got to let you feel sorry for me know all the horrible things they’ve been up to.

For two days in a row my people locked me in dog jail and went for a walk without me.

And I didn’t get a walk at all.

Something about me maybe wrecking my person’s good camera.

I would not wreck her camera – at least as long as she only used it to take pictures of me.

But what’s worse is all the things my people did.

Without me.

.

Yesterday they went to the creek.

Cathedral Rock - Sedona, AZ

And I didn’t even get to go swimming.

Pomeranian swimming in Oak Creek

But this dog did.

***

Then today a really horrible thing happened.

My people went on my trails to take pictures of the sunset.

Without me.

Chimney Rock at sunset

And while they were on their way to that sunset…

Bongo's friend Lucy

They saw my girlfriend Lucy.

She probably thinks I’m avoiding her on purpose now.

Next time I’m locking my people in dog jail.

Yard Invasion

Large green caterpillarThere has been an invasion.

In my yard.

And not just one, but two somebodies have invaded my yard.

My person was pulling weeds out in the yard.

No, my person wasn’t the one invading the yard.

But the weeds were.

Oh, that makes at least three somebodies.

.

.

My person pulled up a weed, and there it was.

Large green caterpillar with intricate patterns

A big old green caterpillar.

Invading my yard!

And I know there was someone else because – just look at that caterpillar.

An artist was in my yard too.

Painting on that caterpillar.

A pretty good artist at that.

But the artist disappeared before my person exposed that caterpillar.

Otherwise I could have caught two culprits at once.

So I did then next best thing.

Bongo with his tongue out and curled up

I ate the caterpillar.

Note: No caterpillars or Bongo’s were harmed in the making of this blog post.

What Happens in the Mud

Bongo's paws next to some much larger paw prints

Somebody really big showed up on my trails when they were muddy.

I’m sure glad I missed out on seeing that somebody.

That could be really scary.

It taught me something though.

Not to take my person for walks on my trails when the mud is out.

Because whoever this is with the big paws likes to play in the mud.

I might get stuck in the mud and be mistaken for a new toy.

Yup, I think I’ll avoid my trails when the mud comes out.

Besides, I won’t get yelled at when I come back in the house.

A New Garden

Sunflowers amid a collection of rocksAs I walked along on my trails minding my own business I noticed something new.

It was in a little area where people sometimes hang out.

The place where people stack rocks up into high piles.

Only I guess they got tired of stacking rocks.

Now they’ve decided to plant a garden.

.

.

.

.

I decided to check it out.

Bongo behind the sunflowers

Those sunflowers are tall and easy to see.

But maybe there’s more garden around here.

Maybe someone planted some vegetables.

Some really tasty vegetables.

I like vegetables.

I’m drooling just thinking about it.

***

Wait. This isn’t fair.

It’s torture to start drooling and find nothing tasty to satisfy that drool.

Bongo walking away from the flowers

There’s nothing here person.

Let’s go home.

I know you’ve got vegetables treats for me there.

Secret Admirer

Bongo and a heart shaped from rocksI’m minding my own business, walking on my trails when what should appear, but a heart.

Not just any old heart.

Someone made this heart.

And the logical conclusion is that it was one of my girlfriends.

She must be around here somewhere waiting for me.

She probably wanted to surprise me with this heart first.

And then she’ll give me a bigger surprise by jumping out of the bushes.

Okay, that should happen anytime now.

I’m waiting.

I don’t even hear a bush rattling.

Come on! I know you’re out there somewhere.

Come out and tell me you love me.

***

It sure is quiet around here.

Bongo near the rock heart and looking around

Do you think she laid her heart down and left?

A Scary Sight

Ananias Restoring Sight by Benjamin WestThere’s more to the story about Saul?

I liked it where we left him last week – blind and not eating.

Can’t we just leave him there forever?

I mean, he’s a real meanie.

Okay, I’ll listen.

***

In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called him in a vision. “Ananias!”

***

I bet the Lord is warning him about Saul.

He already knows about him?

He’d better start running.

I am listening.

***

“Yes, Lord,” he answered.

The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”

***

Oh no!

I think Ananias is in trouble.

***

“Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. And he has come here with authority from the chief priest to arrest all who call on your name.”

***

I don’t get it.

If Ananias knows all that, how come he didn’t start running a long time ago?

***

But the Lord said to Ananias “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

***

Now the Lord’s talking.

Make that mean old Saul suffer.

***

Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord – Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here – has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

***

This isn’t good.

If Saul is going to start eating again that’s less food for me.

Back Off

Rain cloud over Thunder MountainHey person, we can’t go on a walk.

Look at that. There’s rain on its way.

It’s going to engulf us any minute now.

And you know what the rain brings with it.

.

.

.

Thunder!!!

Bongo between the trees and the rain

Maybe these trees will protect me from the rain.

Look, I can hardly see it now.

But I still think we need to go back.

I’m not sure if these trees are trustworthy.

Bongo in front of cactus with his leash taut

And now the clouds are closing in from the other direction too.

Okay, that’s it person.

I’m not going anywhere.

What, you don’t believe me?

You don’t think I’m serious?

Well check this out.

I’m so serious…

Bongo about to back into cactus

…that I’d rather back into this cactus –

than go anywhere near that thunder.

Just try to get me to move.

Package from Rumpy

Bongo with his head in a boxThis is so cool!

A package came for me today.

For me!

Not for my person, or for my younger person.

Not even for the cats.

It came for me.

My friend Rumpy had a contest on his blog awhile back.

I entered it and I won.

I won!

So what’s inside this package?

.

I can’t wait to find out.

Bongo with his head in a box full of red, white, and blue crinkles

Hey wait a minute.

There’s nothing in here but a bunch of red, white, and blue stuff.

What would I want with that?

Bongo and the box

I give up!

What am I gonna do with this package?

And why would Rumpy send me this stuff anyway?

I bet he doesn’t spend his time playing with colored, crinkled paper.

Wait, what?

There’s something else in this box?

What is it?

Bongo with a bag of treats

Treats?!!!

This is awesome!

Rumpy, you do know what I like after all.

Bongo sitting and smiling near the treats

Thanks Rumpy.

Who Will Win?

Bongo on the trail looking upI was walking along my trails minding my own business when I looked up.

And in a tree were two birds.

.

.

.

.

.

I wonder what would happen if one of them decided to pull mischief on the other.

Hummingbird and hawk in a tree

Which one would win?

Hawk

Would it be the hawk?

Definitely the largest and most powerful of the two.

A tried and true hunter.

Would the hawk win?

Or would it be…

Hummingbird in a tree

…the hummingbird?

I’m going for the hummingbird.

That hummingbird already has it’s pointy beak aimed directly at the hawk.

One perfectly aimed dive bomb and that hawk will never know what hit him.

I’m voting for the little guy.

***

Unless the little guy turns out to be…

Gizmo on his back on the couch

…a cat.
