Dots, Dots, and Hats

Bongo Behind Bars

I’m stuck at the dog hotel and I take no responsibility for what’s posted here.

The other day I was walking on my trails and I saw a pile of dots.

Two Airsoft Pellets

Orange Airsoft Pellet

I’ve seen these things on my trails before, but now there were a lot more. My person says my younger person used to shoot dots like this out of his airsoft gun.

Now I remember. I used to go jumping after that gun every time he shot it off.

So that mystery was solved and I headed down the trail with my person.

But a new mystery was about to develop. Because I saw more dots – and these weren’t the same kind of dots at all.

Dot Mushroom

One dot here.

Dot Mushrooms

Two dots there.

Double Dot Mushrooms

Oh no! Double dots.

Dot Mushroom Surrounded by Twigs

And this dot’s surrounded!

I put on my Detective Dog hat and started sleuthing around. And just when I thought I was getting to the bottom of this…

Is somebody making fun of me?

Those dots turned to hats.

I’m putting my paw down on this one.

Globe Mallow

Bongo Behind Bars

I’m stuck at the dog hotel and I take no responsibility for what’s posted here.

My person went off to Colorado and I’m stuck in the dog hotel. I wasn’t allowed to bring the computer with me so I take no responsibility for what is posted on my blog.

Lately my person has been making me hang out and wait a lot while she gets her camera out to take pictures. It’s flower season again on my trails but the globe mallow usually hangs out all summer long.

Globe Mallow

For some reason these flowers just started coming out this year. A couple of them tried to make it early in the summer but they fizzled out. It was really hot and dry before that dreaded thunder season started.

Globe Mallow

These flowers grow on bushes and when they have all summer to grow the bushes sometimes get really big.

But I think my person is spending far too much time with her camera.

Time to go.

Tablets of Stone

Moses with the tablets of the Ten Commandments...

Moses with the tablets of the Ten Commandments, painting by Rembrandt (1659) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I guess God didn’t want the Israelites hanging out in one place very long. They had manna and water out of the rock, and they’d chased those nasty old Amalekites away so they had it pretty good. But they moved again.

In the third month after they left Egypt they came to the Desert of Sinai and camped in front of Mt. Sinai.

God told Moses to go up on the mountain to meet with Him, but not to let anyone else come up there. The people stood at the foot of the mountain and it was covered in smoke because the Lord came down on the mountain in fire. Smoke billowed up from the mountain and the whole mountain trembled violently.

I think I’d be running the other way about now. I bet Moses was scared.

I’m listening, person.

Moses was up on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

That’s a long time. What was he doing up there all that time?

He was what? Talking to God for forty days? They must have had a lot of catching up to do.

Yes, I’ll listen.

While Moses was on that mountain God gave him two tablets of stone with the Ten Commandments written on them.

What are the Ten Commandments?

No way! You mean I have to change my ways? I don’t even want to repeat those.

Okay… Here’s what my person says the Ten Commandments are.

  1. Honor your people and always do what they say the first time they say it.
  2. Don’t bark unless you’re chasing away a bad guy.
  3. Don’t chase cats.
  4. Don’t eat the cat’s food.
  5. Don’t eat treats out of the litter box.
  6. Don’t chew on things that don’t belong to you.
  7. Don’t steal food.
  8. Be good when your people leave you alone in the house.
  9. Don’t jump the fence and run off.
  10. No mischief.

Hey person, I can’t follow those. I just can’t. They’re too hard. Especially that “No Mischief” one.

What?! There’s a way around it? How? What do I have to do?

My person says that people can’t follow the Ten Commandments for people any better than I can follow the ones she gave me. She says God had to give people another way to get to heaven because nobody can do it themselves. She says that’s a whole other story but it has to do with God loving us so much that He sent His Son to come down and take our place and die on a cross for us.

You mean God’s Son takes care of it for me?

Woo woo! I’m going to go get into some mischief.

The Missing Piece

Bongo in front of empty spot in the rockHey person, check this out. This is a real puzzle for sure. Somebody forgot to put the last piece in the puzzle. I’d better put my Detective Dog hat on and find out where that missing piece is.

Bongo Looking Around

Do you see it anywhere? Nope, not over here. I’d better check somewhere else.

Bongo and the Missing Piece

Check this out, person. I think I’ve found it.

The Missing Piece

Do you think this is it?

The Empty Spot

Do you think it will fit in this spot?

Hey, wait a minute! Why would someone forget to put the last piece in when they had it right here? And I thought I was doing so well. I found the missing piece, but now I have a whole new mystery.

I wonder who put this puzzle together anyway.

The Perfect Weed

Clump of grass with thick blades going to seedCheck this out. The weed of weeds! And I found it right on my trails. I’ve been dreaming of a weed like this. I could spend hours of munching pleasure chomping down on this weed.

Look at it. Those luscious, shiny, beautiful blades of grass. And for dessert there are even some tiny weed seeds.

I’ve never seen a weed like this before. I don’t know where it came from, but I’m sure it was placed here just for me.

Now comes the challenge.

My person is standing right next to me and she likes to pull on my leash when I start chomping weeds. I’ve got to find something to distract her.

Maybe some cute little flowers that she can take pictures of.

Hey person! Over here! Check these out. You’d better get out your camera.

Little magenta flowers on a vine

Whew! Lucky break. Those flowers weren’t easy to find.

Now to chow down!

***

Oh yuck! Ptooey! Gross! This weed tastes terrible!

Hey person, put your camera away so we can go. I think I see some of my regular weeds over here.

The Heart Man

Heart Rock and BongoMy person and I met this man on my trails and he stopped and gave me loves. Some people give me loves, but most of them just walk by. Sometimes they say something to me, but a lot of them ignore me. It’s really disappointing, but that makes it special when I do get loves.

This man talked to my person for a couple minutes – general stuff like how nice a day it was. Well of course it was a nice day. Anytime I get loves it’s a nice day.

We were about to go on when the man reached into his pocket and handed something to my person.

And then I realized who he was.

The Heart Man!

We don’t see him often. We’ve only seen him twice before. But whenever we see him he gives my person a little red rock shaped like a heart.

Bongo and a Heart Rock

I think it’s pretty cool that he does that – and especially cool that he gives me loves. But I think there’s one more thing he needs to do.

I wonder if he could get some heart shaped treats to hand out to dogs.

Little Yellow Flowers

Bongo Looking Down the TrailThis time of year everything seems to turn yellow. Well, I don’t mean everything. I don’t turn yellow, and neither does my person. And the rocks around here don’t turn yellow. But there are bushes everywhere with little yellow flowers on them.

There’s so many that I have to sort through them just to get to the good weeds.

I thought this time of year was going to be so good. No more thunder and no more heat. Who would have thought that little yellow flowers would be my downfall? I think I’ll bury my person’s camera under a log.

Party Time

Can found on the trailLast night there was a party. Actually, I think there were two parties. And I wasn’t invited to either one.

One of the parties was right on my street. They even went past my house. I don’t know why they didn’t think to stop and invite me. It was totally rude of them.

The party on my street was a javelina party. And this morning it looked like they had a really fun time.

Last night my person and a bunch of the neighbors put their garbage cans out on the street. They do this about once a week and I still haven’t figured out why. I think they’re just asking for trouble.

Well, they got trouble and this morning they were all out picking up their garbage cans and filling them up again. Except they didn’t get filled up quite as much this time. The javelina probably picked through the garbage to find party hats and favors. I don’t think they have a javelina party supply store.

But there was a second party. My person and I found evidence of it on my trails. My person picked up that party can and brought it home with her. I guess she thinks the javelina need more party supplies.

I don’t think my person gets it. Javelina aren’t going to want any people party supplies. She might as well put that can right in the garbage.

In the Middle of Things

Bongo Sleeping on the Living Room FloorAll summer during the thunderstorms I had one sleeping spot. In the hallway, the farthest place in the house from the storms.

But now that the thunder is over I’m changing my sleeping patterns. No more blocking the hallway for me. I’m tired of getting stumbled on and tripped over.

I’m checking out the living room. Where all the action is. That way if something really good happens at my house I won’t miss it.

Or maybe I’ll try out the nice, cool tiles on the kitchen floor. There’s a lot of food action going on there and I’ll be right in the middle of it.

I know one thing for sure though. When I’m sleeping in the hallway my person gets away with all kinds of things, but now I can catch her at everything. She can’t even get her camera out without me knowing about it.

There’s no way my person is going to get a picture of me asleep.

Hold up Your Hands

English: Victory O Lord, by John Everett Milla...

English: Victory O Lord, by John Everett Millais, the Amalekites defeated, as in Exodus 17:8-16, 1871 oil on canvas, at the Manchester City Galleries (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Hey person, Moses and those Israelites really had it made now, didn’t they? God had helped them escape from Egypt, He gave them manna to eat, and now He’d given them water from out of that rock. I bet they were ready to lie down and take a nice, long nap.

What? Oh, no! My person says that while the Israelites were still camped at Rephidim, drinking all their water, the Amalekites came and attacked them.

Those Amalekites need to find their own rock to get water out of.

I’ll listen person, as soon as I chase those Amalekites away.

What do you mean, it’s not my job to chase them? It’s always a dog’s job to chase the bad guys.

Okay, I’ll listen.

Moses told Joshua to choose some men and go out and fight the Amalekites.

I bet Joshua needs some help. I could go out and help him.

I am listening, person, but I can’t help myself. I just want to grab those Amalekites by their robes and yank on them.

Okay, I’ll try to calm down.

Moses said he was going to stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in his hand. Moses’ brother Aaron and Hur went with him.

As long as Moses held his hands up, Joshua and the Israelites were winning. But when he put them down again the Amalekites started winning. So Aaron and Hur got a stone and put it under Moses for him to sit on …

Excuse me, person. I don’t think a stone would be very comfortable to sit on. Didn’t they have one of those cushy chairs they could get for him?

I am listening.

Aaron and Hur stood on either side of Moses and held his hands up until sundown. And because Moses’ hands were up Joshua beat the Amalekites.

Moses built an altar called The Lord is my Banner because he said his hands were lifted up to the throne of the Lord.

Hey person, the next time Scratchy tries to eat my food, could you lift up your hands?
