Looking for the Teacup

Teacup Trail SignThere’s a new sign on one of my trails. There was a sign there before, but now  a new and improved sign has appeared.

I think somebody must have seen the sign I put up in my puddle a couple days ago and got jealous. That’s the only thing I can figure.

I wasn’t trying to compete with anyone. I don’t plan to start any sign wars by putting a better sign up in my puddle. But I do have to admit, this new trail sign is rather nice.

I’m kind of befuddled though. I’ve been walking on my trails a long time and I’m still looking for the teacup.

I know where the coffee pot is.

But I haven’t been able to find the teacup.

Maybe I’m looking in all the wrong places. Maybe that teacup isn’t big and red like the coffee pot.

What if this is the way to the tea party and I have to bring my own tea cup?

What if that butterfly I chased out of my puddle with my sign was the first guest at the tea party? And I ruined the party.

That’s terrible. I’m going to be known on my trails as a party pooper.

That does it! I’m heading out there right now and taking my sign down.

Official Trail Guide

Bongo Leading New Friend on the TrailsWoo woo! I’m official now. I’m really an official trail guide. I got to lead my friend who came to visit me on my trails today. I made her hold on tight to my leash so she wouldn’t get lost.

.

But I had to have a lot of patience with her. I tried to run so she could see as much of my trails as possible before it got dark, but whatever I did, I couldn’t get her to run with me. I kept having to wait for her.

Bongo Looking Back

I showed my friend where all the good smells are. I tried to get her to check them out for herself, but she just wouldn’t do it. I can’t figure out why. She’s missing out on the best part of the tour.

Bongo smelling something while friend waits

I wanted to make sure my friend got the full Arizona experience, so I made sure she brushed against some cactus.

Prickly Pear Cactus

I’m not sure why it’s so important to people, but my person said to make sure I took my new friend where she could see lots of red rocks, so I even took her to see the best scenic views.

But I seem to be having a problem now. My official fee for giving tours of my trails is lots of loves, but I wore my new friend out so much that she doesn’t have any energy left to give them to me. Next time I give a tour I’m collecting my fee in advance.

May the Bird of Paradise …

Bongo and Bird of ParadiseHey person, our house is right here. Where are we going?

The end of the street? Why would we want to go there?

You want to take more pictures? I’m about ready to smash your camera. All you want to do is take pictures anymore. We could go on much longer walks if you weren’t always stopping to take pictures.

I’m what? I’m getting a longer walk so you can take pictures? But we could have stayed on my trails and had a longer walk there.

You’re stopping here? What is this?

Bird of Paradise

Yellow Bird of Paradise? If those things are birds why aren’t they flying away? Every time I get near birds on my trails they fly away from me. Is there something wrong with these birds? Are their feet tied down or something?

Bird of Paradise with Thunder Mountain in the background

Oh, wait. I bet they are tied down. I heard a song once about the bird of paradise flying up your nose. I bet somebody didn’t like that idea so they tied those birds down to keep them from flying up their nose. I don’t think I’d like them flying up my nose either. Person, I think we’d better go home before one of them gets loose.

Bird of Paradise

Bird of Paradise

Hey person, check this out. Those birds found one of those elusive century plants and stuck it right on my street. After all the trouble I had finding those plants. Those birds really are a nuisance. Not only do they fly up noses, they gang up together and chase after plants that are hiding in the woods. We’d better make sure those birds are tied down really tight.

They Came out of Hiding

Bongo on a Slippery SlopeMy younger person came with us on my trails today. My person wanted to show him the elusive century plant.

I’m not sure how she’s going to do that. I haven’t found that century plant anywhere. I’m starting to wonder if it even exists. Maybe my person is making it up. She does make things up sometimes.

I think she just told my younger person there was a century plant on my trails so he would come out with us. Usually he doesn’t want to come.

I guess by the time he figures out that there isn’t a century plant on my trails it’ll be too late. He’ll already have had his walk.

Come on younger person, let’s go. There’s sure to be a century plant out there somewhere.

Hey, wait a minute. This wasn’t here yesterday.

This wasn’t here either.

You mean there’s more?

I’d better take my younger person with me on all my walks. Somehow he got that elusive century plant to come out of hiding.

The Elusive Century Plant

Bongo on the TrailI headed out today to look for that elusive century plant. This is the third day I’ve tried and so far I haven’t had any luck. I sure hope I find it.

First, some little dog planted herself in the middle of my trail and started barking at me when I tried to get by. I managed to squeeze by, but it wasn’t easy.

Then a bigger dog, about my size, wanted to be friends. Don’t you get it dogs? I’m on a mission. I had to shove that dog aside.

Finally, I’m on my way to find that elusive century plant.

Bongo's nose in agave plant

My person said those century plants grow out of agaves. Maybe there’s a century plant in this one.

Nope, I don’t see one here.

Bongo's nose in a century plant

I don’t see one in this agave either. What does a century plant smell like anyway?

Bongo standing next to a century plant

None over here. Let’s keep looking person.

Bongo in front of a century plant

I don’t see any here either.

I give up, person. We’re not finding that century plant anywhere. It really is elusive. I guess we’ll have to come out and try again tomorrow.

Smoke Screen

Bongo and a Smoky SkyA few days ago I told you about the smoky skies we had because of a fire burning a few miles away. Well, the smoke finally went away, the dogs and people got to go back to their houses, and even though the fire is not out completely they have it pretty much in control.

But today our sky was really smoky. It wasn’t just coming from one direction, it was everywhere. I don’t get it. If that fire is almost out, where is the smoke coming from?

My person got online and found out where that smoke originated (is that a word?). And do you believe it? New Mexico doesn’t want their smoke so they’re sending it to us. Talk about throwing your garbage into your neighbor’s yard.

If New Mexico wants to break records and have the biggest fire they’ve ever had in their history, then they need to take everything that goes with it. After all, we didn’t want to break any records. We’re putting our fires out, and we kept our smoke here.

I think I may have to get a new hat for my collection. I’m going to have to become Inventor Dog. I want to invent a giant net that will gather up all that smoke, or maybe a big screen will do it. I could call it a smoke screen.

And once I have all that smoke gathered up I’m going to put it on a big truck and haul it back to New Mexico.

The Dog Park

Sedona Dog ParkToday my person and I got in the car and we started driving the way we go to the vet. I like the vet because they give me lots of loves and treats so I was excited.

But then my person did something strange.

Hey, person. You took a wrong turn. The vet’s that way.

What? We’re not going to the vet?

I was really bummed until we got out of the car. There were lots of dog smells there.

Come on person, let’s go. Where are we anyway?

This is a dog park? They have parks for dogs? You never told me that before.

What? I’m finally starting to be nice to all the other dogs on my trails so you thought you’d let me come? What do you mean finally starting to? I’m always nice.

I couldn’t believe it when my person took off my leash. I found so many places to check messages and leave my own that I ran out of message juice – and without my leash my person couldn’t even drag me away.

Then I met Baxter. That little pup followed me around but I think he just wanted my Frisbee.

Baxter really had his eye on my Frisbee.

There’s no doubt about Baxter’s motives now.

Now Baxter, if you just remember who that Frisbee belongs to we’ll get along fine.

Hey person, I had great fun at the Dog Park chasing Frisbees and balls. Can we go back tomorrow?

What? What do you mean I got too much exercise and you didn’t get enough?

I Found It

Bongo looking at strange objectsI think I just found it. It’s got to be it.

Sedona is famous for UFO sightings. At least that’s what some people say. My person says you can do a Google search (a what?) and find all kinds of entries.

So today we were walking on one of my trails that we don’t go on that often. I’ve seen this before, but I didn’t realize what it was. Now I know. I’m sure I know.

It’s a tracking station for UFOs. It probably even sends out a signal to draw them into Sedona. That’s why so many people say they see them here.

And look – that cylindrical thing there – you see it? I bet that’s a holding tank for the shuttles so the aliens can come here and no one will find their ships while they’re visiting the tourist shops – or hiking on my trails.

Yikes! I might find a real live alien while I’m out hiking. I sure hope it’s a friendly alien.

Gray Skies – No Clouds

Smoky SkyThe sky is gray today, but there’s not a cloud in it. I don’t get it. I thought clouds were what made the sky gray. How can it be gray without clouds? Did somebody wash out the blue?

The mountains are kind of faded out and the red rocks aren’t as red. What’s going on?

I’ve never been to any of those places, but I heard that in Los Angeles, or Tokyo, or Mexico City sometimes the sky does the same thing. Maybe all those tourists we get here turned the sky gray with all their vehicle exhaust.

What? There’s what causing that gray sky?

Smoke? Where would smoke come from?

Fire? What fire? Is it coming here? It’s not going to burn up my trails, is it?

Whew! My person says the fires are a long way from here.

What about the people where the fires are? Do they have any dogs that need help? I wouldn’t want any dogs to get in the way of those fires.

Oh, that’s good. All the dogs have been taken to a safe place. But the dogs and the people had to leave their homes? I wouldn’t like it if somebody made us leave our home. Maybe we should let all the dogs stay with us. That would be awesome. All those dogs here at my house. We could have a dog party. Wouldn’t that be fun, person?

I think I’ll go out right now and leave a message for all those dogs, letting them know that this is where they’re supposed to be.

Hey person, can you get my leash?

Hey person, where did you go?

Signs

Back of Kia SedonaThe parking lot at the beginning of my trails usually has vehicles in it. All kinds of vehicles. But today I found one that said Sedona all over it. I wonder if the car needed signs so it would remember where it is.

I wonder if that vehicle has different signs for when it goes driving around to other cities. Suppose it drove to Tucson. It might forget where it was, so if it took the Sedona signs off and put Tucson signs on, it wouldn’t have a problem.

And then if it drove to Santa Fe it could change signs again and it would still know where it was.

And if that vehicle drove to Durango it could change signs once more.

Then that vehicle could loop back down to Sedona and start all over again. Or maybe it already did that. I wonder if that vehicle has been to all those places, and Sedona was the last place it went.

Maybe that vehicle needs to take a longer trip this time. What if it went all the way to Washington State and visited Tacoma. I bet it would have signs for that too.

Bongo and Sedona

I think I might like to do some travelling. I wonder if they make signs for dogs.
