No Snow

Bongo on virgin snowYou see this picture here?

It didn’t happen today, or this week, or even this month.

This snow happened a very long time ago.

I haven’t had any snow to play in at all this winter.

And some of my friends have way more snow than they want.

You’d think it could get evened out a little better.

So I’m trying to figure out how I can get some of those clouds down here to play in.

.

They look like they might be as much fun as snow.

Wind swept clouds over red rocks

It looks like God’s paintbrush almost ran out of paint when He was brushing those clouds across the sky.

Clouds over Thunder Mountain

Oh wait, I think I’ve figured out how to get those clouds down here.

Clouds

Almost anyway.

Hey, what’s this?

Clouds with sun dog

Isn’t that little colored spot in the sky called a sun dog?

Now that’s my kind of cloud.

Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day

Bongo splashing the waterDo you know what today is?

It’s one of my favorite days.

Well, it’s going to be one of my favorite days. I didn’t know about this holiday last year.

Today is Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day.

I was really looking forward to splashing…

.

.

Bongo Getting One More Swim

Or maybe even swimming and splashing.

As long as I could get my people all wet.

But here’s what happened.

I went to my favorite puddle…

Bongo at the place where a puddle used to be

And it was gone!

Without my puddle how could I celebrate this special holiday?

So I talked my people into taking me on a new trail.

Bongo and his younger person on a trail

One that I’ve never been on before.

And I heard that it ended up at a creek.

So we wandered around and up and down and finally we ended up…

Bongo standing at the top of the world

At the top of the world!

I sat there with my younger person…

Bongo and his younger person looking at the view

And it didn’t seem like he was going to move.

Bongo and younger person sitting and looking at the view

I’ve got to figure something out – because now I know where the puddle is.

Bongo getting restless

And I’m going to find a way to get there.

Bongo looking the other way

Over there looks like a good place to start.

Bongo heading down the cliff

Yup, this way’s going to get me there.

Bongo part way down the cliff

Hey guys, this is the right way. Come on down here!

Bongo being made to climb back up

What do you mean, I’ve got to climb back up?

Bongo back on top

You’re missing the whole point.

I haven’t splashed in a puddle yet.

When are my people ever going to learn?

Not My Adventure

Bongo on the trail on a cloudy dayI headed up my trails as usual, minding my own business.

I’m always looking for some kind of adventure, but this time I found somebody else having an adventure.

I got really concerned because this person was way up high on Sugarloaf, the large, round, red rock hill next to my trails.

This person stood on a ledge and it looked like she was going to step off – right down a straight cliff.

If that person doesn’t have super sticky shoes and fingers she is going to fall right down to the bottom.

And then she did step off.

But she didn’t fall.

.

She kind of hung there, right in the middle of the cliff.

What kind of a trick is this? Can she fly?

Maybe she has super Jedi powers and she’s going to pop right back up to the ledge.

But none of that happened.

She didn’t fly, and she didn’t pop.

She slid.

Right down to the bottom.

Safely.

Oh wait a minute. I see it now.

She cheated.

Person rappelling down Sugarloaf

There’s  a rope hanging there.

Hey, that looks like fun.

Maybe if I drag my person up to that ledge she’ll let me slide down the rope.

Erasure

Bongo looking under a rockToday there wasn’t a single car parked by my trails.

This doesn’t happen very often.

I had to check under the rocks to make sure there were no cars hiding there.

But there weren’t.

And we didn’t see any people or dogs on my trails either.

I don’t know what happened to everybody.

But I think they were all erased.

Because I caught somebody in the act. Somebody trying to erase my rocks too, and they hadn’t finished yet.

Cloud covered rocks in the distance

Red rocks covered in clouds

I’d better be careful so nobody erases me.

Because my trails are extra fun today.

For some reason there are more puddles than usual.

Bongo looking at a puddle

I love splashing through all the puddles – and tasting them too.

And today I found something really unusual.

I hope they weren’t behind all that erasing, because I’ve never seen anything quite like them on my trails.

Maybe they’re here checking out what’s happening, and they’re here to help.

But what if they’re the cause of the erasures?

I think I’d better keep my distance.

Bubbles on red rocks

Watch out everybody.

Stay away from those bubbles!

The Aliens are Coming!

Bongo on his trailsThere’s something happening on my trails.

I’m not sure what’s going on, but I think somebody is shining a giant spotlight on my rocks.

Who would do such a thing?

Oh, that’s right – this is Sedona. It’s probably a giant UFO.

That UFO must be hidden among the clouds so nobody can see it.

I bet the aliens in that UFO want to see what’s under the clouds – so they found a hole in the clouds and they’re shining a beam of light right through them.

And that light is hitting my rocks and making them look really strange.

I’d get my Detective Dog hat on and investigate this – but I think Detective Dog is scared of aliens so I’m going to leave this one for someone else to investigate.

I’ll just show you some pictures of what I’ve been seeing and maybe one of you can help me figure this out.

Red rocks with one spot lit up

Close up of lit up red rocks

Lit up Sedona red rocks

Anybody see any aliens?

Turkey Trail

Bongo on the trail with red rocks and blue sky in the backgroundI don’t mean to make all my friends jealous who live in different places with lousy weather but – yes I do. I’m going to make you jealous.

Because we had the most perfect Thanksgiving Day ever.

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the temperature was pleasant.

The parking lot at my trails was so full that cars spilled out onto the street – even as far as my house.

Every two minutes it seemed, my person was pulling me aside so people could pass.

I did get to get loves from one little boy.

His face was at the perfect height for kissing.

.

But something was missing from my trails.

After all, it was Thanksgiving so I figured there should be some turkeys running around somewhere.

Bongo sniffing and not noticing the turkey

So I started sniffing around to see if I could catch a turkey scent.

I’ve never seen a turkey on my trails, but you’d think at least one would show up on Thanksgiving.

Bongo in a dry wash and looking away from the turkey

I thought the dry wash might be a good place to go.

Not many people or dogs go here so I figured if a turkey was around it might be brave enough to show itself.

Bongo at a bend in the dry wash and still not seeing the turkey

Here turkey, turkey!

Come on out. It’s just me.

You’re safe here.

Bongo in the dry wash and still missing the turkey

I’m not having any luck finding turkeys.

Either they’re really good at hiding, or there just aren’t any around.

Bongo ready to head home - still missing the turkey

I give up. Guess I’ll head back home.

I hope my younger person didn’t eat all the turkey in the fridge.

Creepy Cloudy Days

Bongo creeping along in a wash with puddlesCloudy days can be creepy here.

You never know what you might step on when you’re creeping along in a wash.

Hey, wait a minute!

Person, you put up the wrong picture.

I don’t get creeped out in my wash. I like stepping in puddles.

Put that other picture up.

.

Thunder Mountain with a spot lit up

The light goes away on cloudy days.

Or it’s up way too high to reach.

This isn’t right either.

I can find my way by smelling things.

I don’t care if there’s not much light.

You’ve still got the wrong picture, person.

Sugarloaf with black dots in the sky above it

That’s better. That’s what I’m looking for.

Or is it?

That looks like you got some black dots on your lens.

I think you need to clean your camera, person.

Ravens in the sky

I think you cleaned your camera the wrong way. Now those black dots are bigger.

Oh yeah, that’s what I was talking about.

On cloudy days the ravens fly low over that rock on my trails.

They always look like they’re up to no good.

At least they don’t come down and dive bomb me but they sure flock together on days like this.

I tried to talk to those ravens and find out what they were doing up there.

I even threatened to get my Detective Dog hat and investigate.

But nothing seemed to work.

I don’t think those ravens understood what I was saying to them, because they kept repeating the same word over and over again.

I asked them if they were going to come back every cloudy day and all they said was…

Ravens Together

Nevermore.

A Sad Story

Bongo sniffing something on the trailHmmm.

Something’s here that doesn’t belong on my trails.

At least not this time of year.

It smells funny too. Not your usual trail scent.

And it’s colorful.

.

.

.

.

.

What's hiding in Bongo's shadow?

There’s not usually much color on my trails this time of year except for the red rocks and the blue skies.

I wonder how this strange stuff got here.

Colors are usually cheery, but this stuff seems to have a sad story behind it.

Maybe a cute girl was sniffing the funny smell and the wind came up and blew these things out of her hands.

Or maybe a boy was bringing these to a cute girl, but she’d gone too far on my trails and he couldn’t find her.

Or maybe these were meant to remember someone.

Oh wait – this is Sedona after all. Someone was probably using these to put an enchantment on my trails.

It’s a good thing I found them then.

Discarded flowers on the ground

No enchantments for my trails.

Unless it’s to enchant all the cute girls to come and give me loves.

Where’s My Adventure?

Dirt road, mountains, and skyMy person took off on an adventure this morning and left me at home with Scratchy.

This is really getting bad. I’m supposed to be the one having adventures, not my person.

And definitely not her camera.

.

.

.

Backlit clouds

It will be a bright day for sure when my person finally gets tired of that camera and takes me on adventures instead.

Red rocks and sky

Finally my person came back home and took me out on my trails.

Bongo in the wash

I looked all over my trails for some kind of adventure.

No luck.

No adventures anywhere.

I think my person used up all the adventures of the day.

This guy we found on my trails didn’t look like he was having any adventures either.

Plein Air artist

He was just standing there painting the cactus.

Maybe we can go find an adventure together.

Plain Air

Tom Lynch painting plein airIt happened around this time last year too. Something about the air.

The air gets plain.

It doesn’t feel plain to me. Unless maybe that means there aren’t any storms in the air.

If that’s it I’ll go for plain air all the time.

There are some other people who must like plain air too, because they show up in Sedona just for the air at this time of year.

I find them on my trails doing strange things.

I thought my person took a long time getting pictures with her camera, but these people take forever.

They don’t even use a camera, they bring all their paints with them.

And when they finally get finished, they don’t even have to put a little card in their computer – their picture is already there.

Wait a minute. What, person?

What do you mean, it’s not plain air, it’s plein air?

What’s the difference. It sounds the same to me.

Plein air is when artists paint outside? Oh.

And I met an artist who is way more famous than me?

I’m a pretty famous dog. He must be really famous.

He has his own website, and it’s better than my blog? No way!

I need some votes here. Check out Tom Lynch’s website at http://www.tomlynch.com/ and tell me my blog is better.

I guess it really doesn’t matter anyway. What’s more important is that…

Bongo and Tom Lynch

my new friend Tom gave me loves.
