What Did I do with My Summer Vacation?

Bongo on the trail with flowersThis is ridiculous! My last post right before this one has snow in it.

Right now it’s so hot that if snow showed up it would sizzle away.

So I’m sneaking on the computer while my person isn’t looking and writing a new post.

Besides, today is my blogiversary.

Four years of blogging.

Well, it would have been four years if I’d actually been blogging the last few months.

So, since I haven’t posted since the snow was on the ground, and the kids who live near me are already back in school I thought I’d do a “What did I do with my Summer Vacation” kind of post.

Oh. What did I do?

Oh yeah. I got to hang out some with my little buddy.

Bongo and his buddy in dog jail

It wasn’t me. It’s his fault we’re in jail.

***

And my puddle came back!

And the tadpoles came with it.

Puddle with tadpoles

I’ve been watching those tadpoles grow for awhile, but for some reason my person won’t let me get in the puddle with them. No fair!

Oh yeah, and there were those two times in the dog hotel when my person went off without me.

Bongo in a jeep

But the best time I had all summer was when my person’s friend invited her to go to the creek with her – and then she invited me along too.

There was only one problem.

Next time we need to go to a creek that has smaller sticks.

NaNoWoofMo is Here!

Bongo with sunglasses onI finally figured out a way to get my person to help me with another blog post.

And I didn’t even have to have an adventure to do it.

Because another dog is in the middle of an adventure.

You see, my friends at Rocco’s House invited me to take part in NaNoWoofMo for the second year in a row. It’s great fun and any pet blogger – even cats – can take part by picking a day to write a chapter. There’s still lots of days open so stop by Rocco’s House and leave a comment if you’d like to take part. All the links to each day’s chapter will be there too.

The story started at Rocco’s House, then continued on with my buddy Kuruk, travelled over to Hailey and Zaphod’s blog and now here it is on mine.

So here goes:

I could hear the hollow sound as someone stepped on a loose board before I noticed the silhouette of a man on the porch. He held a long stick by his side.

“It’s those coyotes again,” the man said.

I watched as the man raised that stick and pointed it directly at me.

Crack!

The sound deafened me and at the same time something buried itself into the ground near my front paw, raising a pile of dust.

I ran deeper into the shadows.

The man shook his head and went back inside.

The smell of bacon had grown even stronger as it had escaped out the once opened door. My tummy rumbled.

As I lay in the dark wondering how to get that bacon, a sharp pain moved up my back, beginning from the area where I had cut myself on the fence.

I yelped.

***

Oh no, we have to wait till tomorrow to find out what happens next when Swami Zoe takes over. I can’t wait to read more of the story.

Wait a minute. Isn’t Swami Zoe a cat?

Oh, I guess I did say that cats can take part in this too.

As long as they have their own blog and don’t try to steal the blog of the dog they live with.

This Way to Adventure

Globe mallowMy person is not always the most adventuresome person in the world.

I mean, look what she does when I take her on my trails.

She hangs around in one spot and takes pictures of flowers.

How adventuresome is that?

And when I want to go off trail looking for adventure – you know there’s lots of adventures hiding in the bushes – my person holds my leash tight and won’t let me go very far.

I haven’t been able to get through to her.

She’d have way more fun on our walks if she’d only follow me into adventure.

But I think she’s untrainable.

So since I’m missing out on so many adventures when I’m with my person I decided to try a new tactic.

***

I took my younger person and his friend on a walk with me.

Bongo on the trail with two guys

Hey guys come on.

It’s this way to adventure!

Almost an Adventure

Bongo on the kitchen floor looking sadMy person has been glued to the computer the last few days.

Even more than usual.

So I haven’t been having many adventures.

Well, she is still letting me take her for walks on my trails, but she never wants to take the extra time to have an adventure.

So I don’t have anything to tell you today.

The best I can come up with is a soon to be adventure.

And it has to do with flowers, so you know I’m desperate.

They’ve got their mouths open so you know they’re looking for something to eat.

.

.

But what they don’t know is that they’re about to be eaten themselves.

By a cactus!

A Good Day

Bongo in front of the fence he jumpedToday was a good day.

I had one of the most fun adventures I’ve had in a long time.

Here’s what happened.

My person let me outside this morning and it was a beautiful morning.

Warm and sunny.

I wanted to stay outside.

Usually my person won’t let me stay outside by myself, but I curled up in a sunny spot looking innocent and she let me this time.

Something about being too busy to chase me all over the yard.

Usually I don’t like it when she’s too busy, but sometimes busy can be a good thing.

So she went back in the house and I couldn’t resist.

You see that fence behind me?

I jumped it.

And I was free!

I wandered around the neighborhood having a great time.

I think I saw my person’s car driving by after awhile.

Guess I should head back closer to home.

Oh, here comes my person walking out of the house now.

Oh great! Time to play chase.

Come on person. I’m right here across the street.

Bongo on the corner of the street

I love it when she comes after me.

I stay just far enough away so she can’t get me.

And look, she’s so insecure she can’t go anywhere without that leash in her hand.

I don’t want it attached to me so I think I’ll go say hi to the neighbor.

I’m sure he’s good for some loves.

Hey wait neighbor. You didn’t tell me you were in cahoots with my person.

That old grabbing me by the collar trick.

I fall for it every time.

Not My Adventure

Bongo on the trail on a cloudy dayI headed up my trails as usual, minding my own business.

I’m always looking for some kind of adventure, but this time I found somebody else having an adventure.

I got really concerned because this person was way up high on Sugarloaf, the large, round, red rock hill next to my trails.

This person stood on a ledge and it looked like she was going to step off – right down a straight cliff.

If that person doesn’t have super sticky shoes and fingers she is going to fall right down to the bottom.

And then she did step off.

But she didn’t fall.

.

She kind of hung there, right in the middle of the cliff.

What kind of a trick is this? Can she fly?

Maybe she has super Jedi powers and she’s going to pop right back up to the ledge.

But none of that happened.

She didn’t fly, and she didn’t pop.

She slid.

Right down to the bottom.

Safely.

Oh wait a minute. I see it now.

She cheated.

Person rappelling down Sugarloaf

There’s  a rope hanging there.

Hey, that looks like fun.

Maybe if I drag my person up to that ledge she’ll let me slide down the rope.

Missing Adventures

Bongo climbing onto a rockThis time of year on colder days I have to go to great lengths to find adventure.

There aren’t many people or dogs on my trails and most of my adventures start with people or dogs – or the mysteries they’ve left behind.

So I’ve been searching and searching for some kind of adventure on my trails.

No luck.

Nothing. Nada.

.

I hate to admit it, but I even looked for a bit of color so my person would get her camera out.

Even though I hate waiting for her to take all those pictures– unless there are some good smells in the area, that is.

But there’s not a single flower out this time of year.

Finally, I found something worth posting on my blog.

Not an adventure.

Not even a flower.

Prickly pear cactus shaped like a heart

I give you my heart.

Cloud Adventures

Bongo on the trailI headed out on my trails looking for adventure again today.

I was hoping for something better than I had the last time I went looking for adventure.

Last time I got attacked by that dog named Clyde, and even though neither of us got hurt it wasn’t the most fun adventure I’d ever had.

So I thought maybe I’d look for something a little milder this time.

Well, I guess I found it.

Mild, that is.

I didn’t have a single adventure on my trails.

Maybe looking for mild is not such a good thing. Next time I’ll have to pump it up a little.

But wait! I might not have had any adventures, but somebody else was having adventures all over the place.

The clouds were going wild.

Windblown clouds

Sugarloaf rock and windblown clouds

Trees, clouds and sun peeking through

Circle of the sun showing through clouds

Circle of the sun through clouds framed by trees

How’s that for adventure?

Looking for Adventure

Bongo on the trail on a cloudy dayI needed something for my blog post so I headed out to my trails looking for adventure.

There’s always some potential adventure on my trails.

Well, I found it.

But you know what?

My person, who drives me nuts with all those pictures she takes – Did I say nuts? Nuts are good treats. Hey person, where’s the nuts?

Oh. I got off the track, didn’t I?

Well, my person, who is always taking pictures until it drives me bonkers, didn’t take any pictures of this adventure.

She’s failing on the job. I don’t know what’s wrong with her.

She even had her little camera with her.

She could have whipped it out and taken pictures.

But she didn’t.

So here’s what happened.

I was walking along my trails, minding my own business. I had my person attached to my leash so I could keep an eye on her, when I heard somebody yelling, “Clyde, come back here!”

Well, Clyde didn’t mind very well and he came running right over to me.

And Clyde started picking a fight with me.

I would have given Clyde what for but I had to protect my person.

Who knows what Clyde might have done with my person. He might have tried to steal her from me.

Clyde’s person came and attached Clyde to her leash so he couldn’t fight with me anymore.

And she said Clyde had never done that before.

Which got me thinking.

I am a famous blogging dog, and everybody knows that these are my trails.

I bet Clyde wanted to chase me off my trails and steal them from me.

I bet Clyde heard about my girlfriends that hang out on my trails and he wanted to steal them too.

From now on I’m going to be watching for Clyde.

And if he comes back I’m going to make sure my person takes a picture of him.

And then I’m going to hang it with a big Wanted sign underneath.

Day Two – No Blue

Bongo on the trail on a gray dayThis is the second day in a row with gray skies. That’s got to be some kind of record for here.

I really don’t mind the weather.

It’s not windy, and not too cold.

Actually a really good day for a walk on my trails.

The only problem is that nobody else seems to think so.

I didn’t meet a single person or dog on my walk today.

.

And without other people or dogs it’s kind of hard to have adventures sometimes.

So I had to look for something else adventurous.

I didn’t find much.

Purple berries against a gray sky

Some berries enjoying the gray day.

Mushroom with a face

And a mushroom with a face.

Well, I thought I saw a face on it, but my person had to enhance (is that an adventurous word – enhance?) the eyes so that you could see them too.

So much for adventures today.

Guess I’ll go take a nap.

Bongo Sleeping
