Art Show for Dogs

Bongo Watching an ArtistToday I found more of those people on my trails with the long things and the square things. You know, those paint brush things and canvases. My person says the people are artists with the Sedona Plein Air Festival and they’re in town all week.

Well this morning my person left me home and went to see all the artists painting at the Sedona Heritage Museum. She said it was a show for people, not dogs. I think she’s wrong and she should have taken me.

But three of those artists are pretty special because they came to my trails to do a show just for us dogs. They let my person hang around and watch, but I don’t think she would have been allowed if it wasn’t for me being there too.

I made two new dog friends and we got our own special show.

I’m not sure though if my new friends got tired, or they liked the lady artists better, or they just found the smells on the ground to be better than the art show.

I’m going for the smells. Maybe those artists could throw a little jackrabbit scent into their paintings.

Flower Unseason

Bongo with Indian PaintbrushI’m working on another mystery, and as usual, this one has to do with my trails. You see, a couple of days ago my person and I were trekking through a part of my trails that we don’t usually go on, and we saw something strange.

We saw flowers.

That wouldn’t be so unusual in itself, except that it isn’t flower season anymore. Of course my person had to stop and take pictures of them. At least there were some weeds to munch on next to the flowers. Otherwise I would have been upset about having to wait while my person took pictures – again.

But I’m still working on that mystery. Why were those flowers there at the wrong time of year? There’s something really suspicious going on here.

Wait! Something’s coming to me. When we saw those flowers, weren’t we on our way to see the artists who were painting on my trails?

That’s why we saw those flowers – because we went a different way so we could get to where they were.

And what were those long sticks called that those artists were using?

That’s it! Paint brushes.

And what are those flowers called?

Yup. Indian Paintbrush.

Indian Paintbrush

I’ve got it! I’ve solved the mystery.

Those artists left those flowers there. They were painting pictures of red rocks and I bet that since they were in Sedona they wanted to use Sedona paintbrushes. But then when they got all the red paint they needed, they left those Indian paintbrushes in the ground.

Woo woo! Detective Dog figures it out again.

Tangled with Excitement

Bongo Tangled in his LeashI finally saw it. And I got so excited I got all wound up – and now I’m tangled up.

.

Bongo and a few red leaved mixed in with the green

Do you see it? You might have to look really hard. Behind me.

I’ve been looking all over for this. I’ve heard about it this time of year. Some places get tons of it, but on my trails it’s hard to find.

All the trees around here are green, and they stay green all year. The only things that have a lot of red on them are the rocks, and they stay red all the time. They don’t suddenly explode in red at certain times of the year.

So I’ve been looking everywhere for some fall colors. My person says there are some in other parts of Sedona, but on my trails they’re hard to come by.

So I’ve been looking, and I finally found the spot. It was hard to find. It’s not on the main part of my trails. But I found it.

The fall color spot.

At least, the fall color bush.

Well, the fall color part of a bush.

Anyway, here you have it.

A few read leaves

A few red leaves

Happy fall everyone!

Long Things and Square Things

Artists in the WoodsI see the strangest things on my trails sometimes, but today I found people doing strange things. Usually the people I see are busy walking on the trail, but these people weren’t. I’m not sure what they were doing, but I guess my person wanted to know too so we went over to investigate.

Sorry person, you cannot share my Detective Dog hat with me. That’s for me alone, even if you do help me with the investigation.

We wandered off the trail and went over to where these people were, and we found a bunch of guys mixing colors with long things and then wiping the long things onto some square things.

It didn’t make any sense to me but my person talked to them and found out the guys were part of the Sedona Plein Air Festival.

I’m not sure what that festival is, but I always thought we had pretty nice air here. I didn’t know it was plain. And why would people want to have a festival for plain air anyway?

We hung around for awhile and my person talked to the guys and looked at their square things with the color on them. I’m not sure what she was looking at. I think they had used up all their rags and those square things were all they had left to wipe stuff off on.

But then something happened and I decided that having a festival for our plain air wasn’t so bad after all.

You’re Not Supposed to Yell

Bongo Leading the WayI don’t believe it! I just got back from the dog hotel – again. And this time my person didn’t give me enough warning so I could put it on a blog post. I mean, she didn’t even get her suitcase out until after she dropped me off. Of all the nerve! I wanted everybody to feel sorry for me – but how can you feel sorry for me if you don’t know what’s going on?

At least she picked me up after only a couple days this time. But then she kept yelling at me. You think she’d be really excited to see me – but she yelled at me instead. I got so excited when I got into the car that I started loving on the back seat – and my person yelled at me for it.

And then, after we got home, I got caught red pawed. My person went outside to get the mail and I figured since Scratchy hadn’t eaten all his food in the whole time I was gone that I’d do him a favor and finish it up for him. My person came back in the house while I was just getting started.

Come on, person. You take pictures of everything else. Get your camera out and take a picture of me with my paws up on the counter. That’ll give me time to finish this.

But, no – my person wouldn’t go for it. Sorry, Scratchy. I guess you’re going to have to eat that old food.

Then to make matters worse, my person made me take her for a walk before I had a chance to take a nap. Something about it getting dark soon. I could have led her just fine in the dark. I got her back though, because I got some good loves on the trail and she didn’t get any.

Jet Trails

Sedona Sunset with Jet TrailMy trails are not the highest trails around. They’re underneath another set of trails. Jet trails.

Lots of jets fly over my trails. You can see where the setting sun is lighting up one of the  jet trails in the top of this picture.

Usually those jets don’t bother me – I hardly notice them at all. Except when it’s cloudy outside. I guess they figure that I can’t see them, and they want to make sure I know they’re there anyway. So they turn up their jet noise, and it sounds a lot like thunder.

When that happens I have to calm my person down. She gets all excited when she thinks it’s thunder, and I’m afraid she’s going to grab me by the leash and drag me home. I have to convince her that it’s not thunder at all.

But there are a few of those flying things that don’t seem to understand that they have to stay on the trails. I get in trouble if I wander off the trail. Shouldn’t all the flying things stay on their trails too?

Helicopter and Cloud Buildups

This one looks like it’s having a race with the clouds. I’m not sure who’s going to win, but I bet if that flying thing stayed in the jet trails the clouds wouldn’t have a chance.

Biplane and Contrail

I can see the jet trail in this picture and this flying thing is way off of it. Actually, I think this flying thing lost its way in time too. There must be a time warp somewhere in those jet trails, and I bet this flying thing popped out of it and got confused.

Hot Air Balloon

Wait a minute! This one looks like it’s trying to come down and steal my trails. I hope someone tells these flying things that if they want to be flying things, they’ve got to fly.

Trash Trooper

Bongo Looking for CluesToday my person grabbed some plastic bags as we headed out to my trails. Not those skimpy little doggie bags. These were grocery bags.

I wasn’t sure what she was thinking, and since she had her hands full I made sure I got tangled in my leash a lot.

It wasn’t until we got nearly to the end of our walk that I realized what she was doing with those bags. And it was time for me to get to work. I hope she brought my Detective Dog hat along – because somebody has been hanging out in my wash and leaving their litter behind.

Bongo Investigating

Time for me to start investigating.

Nothing to Say

Bongo Chewing on an AntlerIt sure feels good to be home again. I mean, don’t get me wrong – I had fun playing with all those other dogs – but there’s no place like home. They don’t give you antlers to chew on at the dog hotel.

I went for a quick check of my trails to make sure they’re still there.

Bongo Sleeping

I think I could sleep for days.

Scratchy at the Computer

Bongo, wake up! Wake up Bongo!

I can’t believe this. This is Scratchy here. Bongo took a nap right in the middle of writing his blog post. What a perfect chance. I can write anything I want and Bongo will never know.

It was kind of good to see Bongo walk in the door after being gone for so long. I guess I kind of missed him.

What am I doing? I can say anything I want and I’m telling the whole world that I missed Bongo. This is nuts!

Bongo, wake up! You’ve got to finish your blog post. I have nothing to say.

Fuzzy Caterpillars and Beans

Bongo Behind Bars

I’m stuck at the dog hotel and I take no responsibility for what’s posted here.

Awhile back – well I guess it was a long way back – sometime last spring, I was walking along my trails minding my own business and I saw the strangest thing. Fuzzy caterpillars hung all over a mesquite tree.

.

.

.

.

.

Mesquite tree in bloom

Mesquite Blossoms

I looked around to see if those fuzzy caterpillars were hanging out on any of the other trees. Nothing. I guess they liked the taste of the mesquite tree.

Then I got worried. What if those fuzzy caterpillars liked me better than that tree? What if they jumped on top of me when I walked under them? I might have caterpillars crawling all over me right now.

I shook myself off and went on my way – far away from that tree. I didn’t see any caterpillars fall to the ground. I hope they weren’t clinging on tight.

I finished my walk and forgot about those caterpillars. I never did find any on me.

Then one day I was walking by that tree again. I didn’t see any caterpillars so I figured I was safe getting close.

Hey person, I thought you said this was a mesquite tree. It’s not that at all.

Under a Tree

Bongo Behind Bars

I’m stuck at the dog hotel and I take no responsibility for what’s posted here.

I really blew it the other day. I’m not sure how it happened. I was hanging out waiting while my person had her camera out – again. She was taking those sunflower pictures that were on yesterday’s post.

I got tired of waiting and found some good smells under a tree.

.

.

.

.

Bongo sniffing a vine with purple flowers

I didn’t think anything of it. Someone had left me a message and I was getting ready to leave one back – when I looked up and here comes my person, crawling under the tree toward me.

Come on, person. I’m not doing anything – really. I’m just checking out the messages around here.

Hey person, you look really silly all stooped down and crawling around under this tree. This is dog’s territory. People aren’t supposed to be under here.

You’re not going to make me go back home already, are you? We haven’t even gone on our walk yet. Why don’t you crawl back out of here so we can go?

I’m not in trouble, am I?

I couldn’t believe it. Was my person going nuts? Does she think she’s a dog now? I quickly left a message on those flowers, hoping that would make my person turn around and find her way out of there.

But you know what she did? She whipped out her camera instead. Sometimes I just can’t figure people out.
