About Bongo

I am a dog who has lots of mini adventures that I love to share. I live with a cat named Scratchy who sometimes steals my blog, and with two people. When my adventures don't turn out so well I get my person to laugh while she helps me write my blog and then I don't get into as much trouble.

Manzanita Mystery

Bongo in front of the bush with berriesMy trails seem to be full of mysteries lately.

I’ve been checking for clues everywhere.

So while I was checking for clues on the last mystery, I discovered a new mystery.

A Detective Dog’s work is never done.

.

.

.

.

Detective Dog

I might have to do some modeling and have my person take some new Detective Dog pics before I wear my hat out.

Besides, I always get extra treats when I model.

Okay, back to the mystery.

It’s a Manzanita mystery.

Because baby Manzanita berries always start out green.

Manzanita Berries

Like this.

And most of the new berries on my trails are coming out green.

They usually get some rosy color later, but when they first appear they’re green.

But I found some berries that just had to be different.

As a matter of fact, even their blossoms were different.

Pink Manzanita Blossoms

They had pink blossoms.

All the blossoms on the other bushes were white.

And when these berries popped out they weren’t green at all.

Red manzanita berries

They were red.

Red manzanita berries

So I started investigating to find out why these berries, and these only, were different than the rest.

And you know what I discovered when I looked around the other side of the berries?

Red and green manzanita berries

The berries are red on one side – and green on the other.

These berries are not so different after all.

It’s all a front.

And the Clues Lead to…

Bongo and a rock pileI was walking along the wash on my trails today, like I do almost every day – when I saw it.

Rock piles have been showing up everywhere and here was yet another one.

One of these days every rock on my trails will be part of a pile.

This might cause a serious problem.

If one of those rock piles falls over, a lizard might get smashed.

Or a rabbit.

Or maybe even a dog!

I decided I’d better get on my Detective Dog hat…

.

.

Bongo looking cool with his Detective Dog hat on

And look for clues.

And I found them.

Clues, that is.

I discovered that I’d better watch my step…

An eye drawn on a rock

Because someone is keeping an eye on me.

And they obviously know my secret identity.

I found an S on my trails the other day…

S's drawn on a rock

And now here are more.

They obviously know that I’m Super Dog.

But they also know…

A star and crescent moon drawn on a rock

That I’m the star of the show.

***

And here it is.

The final clue.

I know everybody’s been waiting anxiously to find out who’s been building all these rock piles.

Strange animal face drawn on a rock

Now all I have to do is find this culprit.

Too Many Piles

Bongo next to a pile of rocks in a washI don’t believe it!

Someone ran out of room in their rock pile spot and now they’re even building rock piles in my wash.

This is a silly place to build rock piles.

Don’t they know this is a wash?

As soon as we get a good rain the water will come roaring down here and take that rock pile away.

Oh, wait.

When was the last time we had rain here?

That rock pile might be safe after all.

So anyway, since that rock pile in the wash might wash away I’m going to leave it alone.

And invade the rock pile spot instead.

Bongo among many piles of rocks

Every time I walk by here there are more piles of rocks.

They’re running out of room to even put more piles.

So I think I’ll do them a little favor.

So they have a chance to do some more piling…

Bongo knocked over a few rocks

I think I’ll knock a few of these rocks to the ground.

“S” Stands for…

An S shape in rockCheck this out.

There’s an S on my trails.

That must be for me.

I know my name starts with a B.

Oh, wait.

If that S is there then that means somebody knows my secret identity.

My trails must know it for sure.

I didn’t think my trails knew that about me.

I guess there’s no keeping it quiet anymore.

I’m mild mannered Bongo by day…

.

Super Dog

Super Dog by night!

It’s Super Dog to the rescue!

***

Oh oh.

I think I messed up.

I was tricked into giving away my secret.

That S wasn’t for me at all.

Because look at this.

A century plant just starting out

It’s the new beginnings of the first Sentury plant this year.

That S must be there to announce the birth of this plant.

***

It is too there for this plant.

What do you mean, it’s a See?

See starts with S.

So what’s the deal?

It’s a Century Plant with a C?

Then somebody’s all confused.

Because they wrote the wrong letter in that rock.

***

Maybe Super Dog should go C about this.

There might be a Kat involved.

Cat Mischief

Gizmo stretched out in Bongo's kennelThose cats are still hanging out at my house having a cat party.

This must be the longest cat party ever.

But I guess they wore themselves out and decided to take naps.

The only problem is that Gizmo took his nap in my dog jail kennel.

What’s a cat doing in a dog’s kennel? My kennel at that!

Well, I’d had enough of all the mischief going on around here so I told Gizmo he’d better get out of my kennel.

.

And you know what he did?

Gizmo on his back in Bongo's kennel

He made sure there was no room left for me.

Cats!

What do you do with them?

You can’t beat them and you can’t join them.

So I did the next best thing.

Bongo kissing Gizmo

I kissed him.

Dropping Crumbs and Pouring Out

Leonardo da Vinci - Last SupperNot now, person.

I’m still playing in that water that Jesus used to wash feet with in last week’s story.

What?

There’s food in this story?

It’s about a supper?

Bring it on! I’m all ears!

***

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.

***

Lamb? They’re gonna have lamb!?

I’m eating with them.

Yes, I’m listening.

***

Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”

***

Hey Peter – John, make sure to save a place for me!

***

“Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.

Jesus replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ He will show you a large upper room, all furnished. Make preparations there.”

They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

***

I’d better go help. They might need someone to clean up the floor when things get dropped.

I’ll listen! I’ll listen!

***

When the hour came, Jesus and His apostles reclined at the table. And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

***

If Jesus is going to leave His food and not eat it, I’ll eat it for Him.

Yes, I’m listening.

***

After taking the cup, Jesus gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

***

What do you mean, I can’t have any of that fruit of the vine stuff that Jesus doesn’t drink?

Dogs can’t have grapes?

Jesus didn’t say anything about grapes.

***

And Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

***

Bread’s alright, but could you pass over that lamb?

***

In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

***

Okay, now Jesus is pouring that stuff out.

Can I drink it if it falls on the floor?

Where They Went Without Me

Bongo on the trail wearing his bandannaI’ve been so occupied with the cats that were hanging out here that I never told you where my people went while I was stuck at the dog hotel last week.

Well, I did tell you about the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. That’s the only important place they went anyway.

But my person threatened to take away my blog if I didn’t share with you where they went.

Do you believe it!?

First I’m forced to put up with all these cats and then I get threatened that my blog will be taken away.

I guess I’d better tell you. If I lost my blog I’d have no way to share all my adventures.

But since I wasn’t there I’m just going to show you some of the pictures.

If you’re wondering where they went, some of these pictures are from Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park in Southern Utah, and some are from Navajo Bridge near Lee’s Ferry and Antelope Canyon in Northern Arizona.

Watch out for the animals.

I sure hope I’m back to my own adventures tomorrow.

Hurry on By

Indian PaintbrushI was so hoping that after the first day of spring no more flowers would show up.

But I was wrong.

Bunches of new flowers were on my trails today.

And of course my person had to stop and take pictures of all of them.

Like this Indian paintbrush.

This is the worst kind of flower, because it stands out wherever it is.

.

You can’t miss it, so I’ve got no chance of walking by quickly and hoping my person doesn’t see it.

But I discovered something today.

Something good.

Whenever my person stops to take flower pictures…

Bongo eating weeds near the indian paintbrush

I can usually find some tasty weeds nearby.

And if my person doesn’t want me eating weeds she’s got to stop taking pictures.

Pretty good plan, don’t you think?

Take this white flower for example.

White flower

I had to search a little harder for the weeds.

Bongo eating weeds under the bush of white flowers

But I found them.

***

Wait a minute.

Bongo and something white in the bushes

I don’t see any weeds around this strange flower.

What is this flower anyway?

I’ve never seen anything like it on my trails.

My person will want to take pictures of this for sure.

I’d better hurry her along.

Golf ball in the bushes

Maybe she won’t notice it.

Happy Spring!

Yellow flowersSome flowers popped out on my trails today.

I tried to walk by them really fast and hope my person wouldn’t notice – but she did.

And of course she had to stop and take pictures.

She looks for any excuse to get out her camera.

So while I hung around waiting for my person to finish taking pictures I realized something.

Today is the first day of spring.

So these flowers came out to celebrate.

And tomorrow won’t be a special day anymore.

So maybe the rest of the flowers on my trails will realize they missed their chance and they won’t show up this year.

I mean, what’s a flower if it misses the first day of spring?

And if I keep my person occupied enough with walking, she won’t stop and take pictures of anything else either.

Come on, person. We’ve got places to go – trails to explore.

A trail is no place for a camera, and tomorrow I’m sure there won’t be any flowers showing up.

So happy first day of Spring!

The only day with flowers to take pictures of.

***

What, person?

What do you mean, these are the first of bunches of flowers on my trails?

You’re going to make me wait while you take pictures of them all spring and summer?

That’s terrible!

What am I going to do?

Bongo profile on the trail

I think I’m going to have to find some new trails for awhile.

Cat Party Continues

Bongo looking distressedThis is really bad.

The cat party is still going on around here.

Didn’t anybody tell Scratchy that parties only last a few hours?

They’re not supposed to go on for days.

And these cats are getting into so much mischief.

.

.

.

.

.

Look at this!

Tiberius and Gizmo on the bed

They’re hanging out on the bed.

I’m not allowed on the bed.

And if I even go near the couch I get yelled at.

Tiberius, Gizmo, and Scratchy on the couch

But look where all those cats are sleeping.

It’s no fair. It’s just not fair!

Somebody’s got to do something about these cats.

Wait. What?

What are you doing Tiberius?

Tiberius rubbing on Bongo

Oh, no!

No cat’s gonna come rubbing up on me.

Bongo walking away from Tiberius

I’m outta here!

Bongo's face

Can somebody please help me?
