The Lizards are Back

Lizard on a RailThe lizards are back! Two of them went scurrying along my trails today. I hadn’t seen any since last summer.

I wonder where those lizards go in the winter. Some birds go away in the winter and others fly through here. Maybe the lizards follow the birds. I guess that might be kind of hard though. If there was a mountain they would have to climb all the way up it and then back down the other side. Those birds might get way ahead of them and then the lizards would be lost.

Maybe those lizards are scared of snow creatures so they hide in the winter. We didn’t have many snow creatures come out this winter though, so the lizards wouldn’t have had to hide as long as they did.

Once my person picked up a rock in the winter and found a lizard hiding under it. There weren’t any snow creatures around. It must have lost the birds it was following – or maybe it was hiding from me.

I won’t hurt you little lizard. You can come out and play.

I never seem to be able to catch those lizards anyway.

Bird Disturb

Bongo Sniffing in the WashI was hanging out in the wash on my trails and I’d found some really good smells. I sniffed around and was really enjoying myself when out of the tree next to me came a big whoosh. A large bird went flying off.

That is pretty nervy of that bird to disturb my sniffing. After all, I was just really getting into it. And to make matters worse, my person got out her camera and drug me away from my smelly spot toward the tree that bird had landed in.

Not only had the bird disturbed me but my person had totally ruined my sniffing. I don’t even know why my person got out her camera. There’s no way she’s going to get close enough to get a good picture.

Hey bird! Shoo! Go fly away. Then I can go back to my sniffing.

I guess that bird decided it would side with me because it flew off again when we started getting close. Now I can get back to my sniffing.

Hey person, that’s the wrong way. My sniffing spot’s back that way. The way we came from before that bird flew off.

Next time I’m going to glue that bird’s feet to the tree.

Who Dumped the Dirt?

Bongo Sniffing a Dirt PileHey person, someone dumped a pile of dirt on this cactus. Why would they do that? I’m going to have to get to the bottom of this.

.

.

.

.

.

Look, here’s another pile.

Dirt Pile

And they tried to pile up more dirt on this other plant. At least they missed that cute little cactus over there.

Dirt Pile

Oh, no. I think the culprit went down this hole. Now how will I find out who did it? If I try to dig whoever it is out, they might go down deeper, and anyway I would be spreading more dirt around.

I think I’ll just wait here and see who comes out.

Hole in the Ground

Check it out person. I’ve found the guilty party. It must have taken this beetle a long time to pile up all this dirt.

Looking for Loves

Smiling Bongo at the Vet's OfficeHey person, if I tell everybody they’re going to feel sorry for me. Then they might give me hugs and loves.

Okay, that settles it. I’m telling them.

My person took me to the vet today. It wasn’t my regular check up time but something was bothering me. I didn’t mind too much though, because I love going to the vet. I always get lots of loves and treats there.

Well, they did stick a stick up my rear end. I’m not sure why they did that and I didn’t like it very much.

Then they started poking around in my ear and that hurt a little. Well, one of my ears hurt when they did stuff to it. The other one was okay.

Then they gave me lots of loves and treats. Lots of treats. Then after dinner my person gave me more treats.

Bongo getting loves

My person says I get extra treats for a few days and then I get to go back to the vet for more loves and treats.

Oh, I think I just messed up this story. I made it sound too good and nobody’s going to feel sorry for me.

Hey person, my ear hurts really bad. I think I need some more treats to make it feel better. And could you give me some extra loves too?

Who Left Me Flowers?

Bongo sniffing a bouquet of wildflowersFor me? I found a bouquet of flowers on my trails. Somebody must have known I was coming and left them here for me. Maybe it was my girlfriend Lucy. I haven’t seen her in awhile. I bet she misses me and wanted to leave these flowers for me.

What, person? You don’t think Lucy left these here? Of course she did. She loves me.

Well if Lucy didn’t leave these, then who?

Maybe it was my new friend Houdini thanking me for letting him come to my house until his person came for him. I bet that was it. I bet he escaped again and when he didn’t find me he decided to leave these flowers for me.

Or maybe it was my friends from New York who got lost on my trails. Maybe after they found New York again they came back to leave me these flowers for helping them find their way home.

You think I’m still wrong, person? Then who left these for me?

He did? These flowers are a special gift from God? Woo woo! Now I am really special. Hey person, what do you think I can leave on my trails for God?

Almost Snow

Snow on High RocksIt snowed today, but I’m not sure what happened. Last time it snowed here I found all kinds of snow creatures. This time, nothing. I think there might be some in those rocks up there. Those rocks are a lot whiter than usual and snow creatures are white. So that might be them hiding up there.

I’m not sure why I saw snow coming down all day, but the ground is just wet. Shouldn’t it be white and slippery when it snows? I did find a few slushy weeds on my trails. They were extra good, but my person would only let me get a couple bites in before dragging me away.

Bongo eating a slushy weed

Oh, wait a minute. Here’s something that wasn’t here before. Puddles and squishy mud! This is alright! Keep walking, person. I’ve got to see how much mud I can squish.

Bongo in a puddle and mud

Oh, look! It’s back! My puddle came back! Puddle, where have you been? I’ve missed you so much. I didn’t know if I would ever see you again. I’m so glad you came back. Were you lost? Did the snow creatures take you away with them? Did they drop you off before they went up on those rocks? Puddle, it’s so good to see you again.

A Net Full of Fish

The Miraculous Draught of Fishes, 1515, one of...

The Miraculous Draught of Fishes, 1515, one of the seven remaining Raphael Cartoons for tapestries. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Some of Jesus’ disciples went fishing after he was resurrected? Why didn’t they take me? I like fish.

Oh, they didn’t? They fished all night and didn’t catch anything? I guess I’m glad I wasn’t with them after all. Were they sleeping in the boat?

I’m listening, person. I didn’t fall asleep. Really. I just think those disciples must have fallen asleep. They must have been really hungry when they woke up. They didn’t have any fish to eat. What did they do?

They what? They saw a man on the shore and he asked them if they didn’t have any fish? I bet he saw them sleeping in the boat.

Okay person, I’ll listen.

When the disciples told the man they didn’t have any he told them to throw their net on the right side of the boat and they would find some. They did and they got so many fish they couldn’t haul in the net. I don’t get it, person. Do fish only swim on the right side of the boat? I’ll have to remember that if I ever get to go fishing.

Oh, I forgot. Okay, I’m listening now. One of the disciples, John, recognized Jesus then and Peter got so excited he jumped out of the boat and swam to shore. I’d be jumping out with Peter. That sounds like fun.

Jesus had breakfast ready for those hungry fishermen. He’d cooked some fish and had some bread. I hope they saved some for me.

Oh yeah, they had all those fish in the net. They counted them and there were 153. Wow, that’s a lot of fish. I wonder if they’d notice if one was missing.

Okay person, I promise I won’t steal any fish. But I think they have more than they need.

After the disciples finished breakfast Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him. When Peter said yes Jesus told him to take care of his sheep and then he told him to feed his sheep.

I wonder what Peter is going to feed those sheep with. I don’t think they eat fish.

He Loves Me

Scratchy at the DoorHe loves me – he loves me not. He loves me. I knew it!

Scratchy you really do love me, don’t you? Come on, admit it. You love me.

If you don’t love me Scratchy, then how come every time I go outside you’re waiting for me when I come back in.

Oh, maybe that isn’t it. You’re jealous, aren’t you Scratchy. You’re jealous because I get to go outside with my our person and you have to stay in the house.

I think our person likes me better. She takes me for walks and goes out in the back yard with me and she doesn’t do that with you.

You don’t have to what? Our person doesn’t make you what?

Well, I like the cold and rain. As long as I can go outside with my person.

Oh.

I guess she does make me go outside in thunder sometimes.

And I don’t get to what? Well, that’s because you sneak up there when our person is asleep.

She knows you’re on her bed? Okay Scratchy, you win. I guess our person loves you too.

But she still likes me best.

Who’s on My Trails?

Bongo sniffing clothes on the trailHey person, there’s stuff on this trail marker. It smells interesting. What is it?

It has people smell on it, but not somebody I know. What is this stuff?

It is? It’s somebody’s pants and shirt?

Oh, no. You know what that means? That means there’s somebody naked on my trails. Why would somebody want to be naked on my trails?

Watch out person. The naked person might be hiding in the bushes nearby. You’d better close your eyes. These bushes aren’t very thick. That person might be embarrassed to be seen.

Why would that person want to be naked anyway? I know it’s a nice, warm day. People don’t need clothes today to stay warm. Those clothes look pretty warm. Maybe that person got too warm and decided to go naked.

Or maybe a vicious dog was on that person’s track and that person had to distract the dog.

Yikes! That means there might be a naked person and a vicious dog on my trails. One of them could jump out at us at any time.

This is not good. I’ve got to protect you, person. Come on, I’m taking you home.

Howling Like a Wolf

Howling WolfWhew! I’m so glad that’s over. For the last couple days I’ve been doing a lot of yard duty. It must be something I ate.

My person says it’s a good thing I don’t howl like a wolf because if I did she might have ignored me when I woke her up at night. I don’t get it. How could she possibly ignore me if I was howling like a wolf?

What’s that, person? It’s not howling like a wolf, it’s crying like a wolf? Do wolves cry?

I’m supposed to cry wolf? How do you do that? Wolf, wolf! Here wolfie wolfie.

And then you get out of bed and let me out? You wouldn’t let me out? Why not?

But I didn’t find any wolves around. There’s never any wolves at our house. Is that why you got up out of bed and let me out every time?

Oh, I get it now. I don’t ever ask to go out at night unless I really really need to. And you didn’t want me to what?

Oh. You wanted to make sure I left everything in the yard.

I guess that’s probably a good idea. I don’t think I would have liked the perfumy smell you would have put in your bedroom if I’d made a deposit there.
