Who Stole My Puddle?

Bongo investigation iceI was walking along on my trails and getting really excited because I had almost come up to my puddle – and I love to play in my puddle.

But something had happened. What’s this stuff that’s covering up my puddle? Strange looking white stuff.

It’s cold. And it breaks into little pieces when I step on it.

.

.

.

Bongo stepping on ice

Somebody stole my puddle and put this breakable stuff here in its place.

I think it’s time to put on my Detective Dog hat.

Bongo looking cool with his Detective Dog hat on

Maybe I’d better investigate the other puddle. That might give me some clues.

Bongo on the ice in a puddle

Oh, no. Look at this! There’s strange stuff here too. But it doesn’t look the same as that other stuff.

I’d better take some notes.

What am I talking about? I can’t write. Where’s my secretary?

Hey, check this out.

Bongo breaking through the ice in a puddle

There’s water under here. I can make notes with this water.

Bongo dripping water as he steps out of ice puddle

Wait a minute. This is not good.

I went back to get some more note taking material and this stuff on the puddle…

Bongo's foot stuck in the puddle

stole my foot!

I need to end this post before I really get into trouble.

Tune in tomorrow for the next exciting adventure!

Detective Dog Finds His Foot!

***

Hey person, I’m really stuck here. Can you help me out?

Walk Challenge

Bongo following behind his younger personOver the weekend I took both my person and my younger person for a walk at the same time. That was really a challenge because I only had one leash and I wasn’t sure how I was going to keep both of them in line.

My younger person has been hanging out at his computer for most of his break from school, and I figured since he wasn’t used to our walks he’d probably stick close. So I let him go off leash.

Yeah, I know there’s a rule that all people are supposed to be walked on a leash, but sometimes a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do.

We headed out and the first thing I had to do was convince my younger person that we were not going on a little five minute walk. This walking stuff is serious business and he’d better get used to it.

Then, a little while later he wanted to stick to the trails instead of scrambling over the rocks like I’m used to doing. I don’t think he understood that you have to go over the rocks to get to my puddle. That route is non-negotiable.

When I started to head into the wash I was really afraid my younger person was going to run off.

Younger person looking back at Bongo

Don’t You Run Off!

I had to follow him and go the other way because I thought I’d lose him.

Younger Person, you’ve got to understand – I’m supposed to be taking you for a walk – not the other way around.

I think I’m going to have to teach my younger person to heel before we go out for another long walk.

Where Is It?

Thunder MountainI don’t see it here. Where is it?

You said it was coming. How come I’m not finding it?

.

.

.

.

.

.Maybe it’s over here.

Bongo looking around

Nope. I don’t see it anywhere.

Is it over this way?

Bongo looking the other way

Not here either.

Where is it?

A couple days ago we had a really warm day and we hiked up Sugarloaf. Person, you said we were taking advantage of the nice weather because snow was on its way.

And then yesterday it got cold and cloudy and you still said snow was on its way. I started getting really excited because I love playing in the snow.

So this morning I was all ready to run out and play in the snow. But there wasn’t any. There weren’t even any clouds anymore.

But person, you said we were getting snow, so it must be around here somewhere.

I don’t care if the weatherman messed up. If he’s hiding that snow from me he’d better come forth with it. Nobody’s keeping my snow from me.

What do you mean, I’m not going to find any snow?

That’s not fair!

Could you at least get me a couple ice cubes then?

Appreciating the Weather

Bongo sniffing something on the trailToday was one of those T-shirt kind of days that we sometimes get here in January. My person said snow was on the way so we needed to take advantage of the weather while it’s here. So off we headed on my trails.

Bongo heading up a trail

Hey person, this isn’t our usual way to go. Where am I taking you?

Bongo in a small patch of snow

Did you say snow was on its way? There’s some snow already hanging out here.

When I finished checking out the snow that seemed to like this warm weather, we headed on up the trail.

Bongo heading up a steep trail

Where am I taking you person? This trail’s really steep.

Bongo looking down the trail

Are you coming, person? You seem to be taking your time.

Bongo looking worn out

You can slow down now, person. I need a rest.

Finally, we made it to the top.

Bongo and view over edge of houses below

Can you see our house down there?

Hey, this is pretty cool. A what kind of view is it? Panoramic view? I don’t see any pans from here? Just an old coffee pot.

Touch of Green

Touch of Green sign on carI found The Plant Lady’s car at the parking lot of my trails today. Her sign said “ Touch of Green.”

So I started looking around at all the plants on my trails.

.

.

.

.

.

Gray and Brown vegetation

Yup, there’s not a lot of green here.

Bongo looking at gray and brown vegetation

Not much green here either. I guess those prickly pear cacti and the juniper trees are kind of green. But look at all that gray and brown stuff.

Bare branch tree with red breasted bird on top

This tree really needs some more green in it.

I think that plant lady has her work cut out for her. I hope she’s got a lot of energy.

What, person? What are you talking about?

What do you mean, that plant lady does interior plantscaping?

You mean she’s not going to turn my trails green?

Then what’s she doing here? Oh, no. Maybe she’s stealing the little green that there is out here so she can put it inside something.

What, person? You think she’s just here to go for a walk?

You mean she’s not going to make anything green?

Well, in that case…

Bongo watering the plants

I guess I’ve got to take care of it myself.

Fans on my Trails

Bongo sniffing in a snow patchToday was on the nippy side with a little bit of a breeze. It felt kind of like a fan blowing on me. A chilly fan. At least it wasn’t cold and windy with snow blowing in my face like it was a few days ago.

A few patches of snow still hung out around my trails and they had some very unusual scents in them. I had to stick my nose into all the indents in the snow. It was fun – until my person told me I’d smelled enough and made me leave.

.

Bongo stepping lightly in the puddle

I checked out my puddle too. It always seems to come around when there’s snow on the ground. My puddle felt very cold and it smelled a lot like those snow patches. I wished I’d had a blanket with me for my puddle. It could have used some warming up.

But here’s the best part. As we were walking along my trails we met two people. That’s not so unusual – we meet people on my trails all the time – but my person seemed to know these people. I’m still trying to figure out how my person knows all these people that I’ve never met, but she does.

But here’s the even stranger part. One of those people that I’ve never met before knew who I was, and she even knew my name.

And she gave me loves…

Bongo giving his new friend kisses

lots of loves.

She’s one of my fans who reads my blog.

I kind of like this meeting my fans thing – so I’d like the rest of my fans out there to please go for walks on my trails. And make sure you’re out there the same time I am. You can check with my secretary person for my schedule.

No person, I’m not letting this fan thing go to my head.

What do you mean I still have to pick up my own toys and make my dog bed?

The New Raccoon

Bongo meeting a boy with a raccoon hatYesterday was a blustery, snowy kind of day and I didn’t want to be outside at all. But today was a different kind of day. The sun came out and the air was crisp and cool. The perfect day for a walk.

It’s a good thing today was a good walking day because I found an animal that I’ve never seen on my trails before. Today I made friends with a raccoon.

I didn’t know what to expect from a raccoon because I’ve never met one before.

.

The boy with the raccoon hat turning away from Bongo

At first he was kind of shy.

He even tried to run away from me.

Bongo, the boy, and his friends

But the raccoon’s friends tried to help. He didn’t seem to be afraid of them at all, even though they weren’t raccoons.

Finally we became friends. That little raccoon put his fear aside and patted my head.

Bongo and the boy with the raccoon hat playing

He even taught me how to play a game.

I had so much fun with my new friend today. I hope he’s just the first of a whole family of raccoons that I get to meet on my trails.

Make it Stop

Bongo unhappy with the falling snowToday seemed like an ordinary day as my person and I headed out for our walk. Well, it was cloudy and kind of chilly, but I can put up with that. Anything for a walk.

But as soon as we got out to the street I could see it coming. Have you ever watched a storm about ready to attack you? It’s like a big cloud coming toward you –ready to engulf you.

And then it did.

Snow and wind coming right in my face. And it wasn’t that light, fluffy kind of snow. This was that hard little corny kind. I didn’t like it one little bit. I don’t know what my person was thinking. She kept heading up the trail.

Bongo balking while the snow is falling

I had to put my foot down. I came to a halt.

Bongo giving the evil eye

My person still didn’t get it. I gave her the evil eye.

Finally she got the message and we headed toward home. But by then the wind and snow were bad in both directions.

Bongo looking for another route

I started looking around to see if that snow was everywhere. Maybe it was only falling on my trail.

There must be another way.

Bongo not wanting to go

I think my person should have followed me off the trail, but she made me stay on it. And it wasn’t the right way at all. By now those snowflakes were turning into monsters. More like hail if you ask me.

Bongo with snow on his back and a sad look

I finally had to try the sad look. It hasn’t worked before, but there’s got to be a first time. I’m sure my person could stop this storm if she wanted to.

***

I knew it. My person could stop the storm. As soon as we got back in the house that snow stopped coming down.

Now I just have to figure out why my person was picking on me.

Christmas Visitor

Ghost Dog Walking AwayYesterday I was so excited to talk about all the great Christmas presents I got that I forgot one thing. I had one more present that I didn’t mention. It was a visit from a special friend that I haven’t seen in a long time.

And that friends, is no other than Ghost Dog.

I was walking my person along my trails like I always do. Yes, even on Christmas I have to make sure to get my person out for her walk. She might get all cranky if she doesn’t get her exercise.

Anyway, we were walking along my trails when, there he was.

Ghost Dog seemed happy to see me. He started wagging his tail and came over and sniffed noses with me. But then, like he always does, he kept on walking and disappeared.

This time he did something a little different though. As he was walking down the trail Ghost Dog turned and looked back at me, as if he really wanted to stay and play.

Ghost Dog Looking Back

But there must be something about his ghostiness that won’t let him do that. Like a true Ghost Dog he vanishes every time I see him.

Next time I might have to put my Detective Dog hat on and follow him. I bet he won’t be so quick to disappear. Because if he does, I’ll find out where he goes and I’ll get a new hat to wear.

Who you gonna call? Ghost Buster Dog!

Somebody’s Missing

Bird on top of a treeI’ve been seeing lots of people, dogs, and birds on my trails lately. The birds are different than the summer birds, but there sure are a lot of them.

I even thought I was going to get to smell a rabbit, but I was surprised to find my own smell on that hair. I can’t help it if I shed in the winter. I wish my person would stop picking all the loose stuff out when we’re on my trails. How would you like it if someone kept picking at your butt?

I forgot where I was going with this. Something about smelly butts?

No, that wasn’t it. With everybody I’m seeing on my trails, there’s still somebody who’s missing. My younger person is home from college right now so he should be on my trails. We’ve been seeing his friends on my trails. Of course they recognized me and I got loves, but they wanted to know where my younger person was.

And so do I. How come he’s missing from my trails?

Next time I’m ready to go out I’m going to have to attach a leash to him and drag him out. I guess my person will be alright without a leash if I do that. I think I have her trained well enough. She’s not likely to run off.
